4-H
The smells and sounds of the fair were missing, but 4-H kids still showed up at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in August to demonstrate what they have learned about animals, crafts, gardening and food preservation.
4-H gets its
moment
Youth bring 4-H projects to fairgrounds for judging Normally, the Douglas County Fair would be the time to shine for 4-Hâers. They would be up early, washing and brushing their calves to a fine gloss, or combing their horseâs tails. They would be waiting in line to talk to the judge, holding structures made from Legos or popsicle sticks. During free moments, they might try to win a stuffed animal or enjoy a ride. When the fair was canceled this year because of the Cat Show Senior âș Champion, Jackson Dutcher, Chippewans âș Reserve Champion, Anna Wolf, Liberty Livewires Cat Show Junior âșC hampion, Lauren Thoennes, Moe âș Reserve Champion, Aleyna Taveirne, Liberty Livewires Junior Cat Exhibit âșC hampion, Aleyna Taveirne, Liberty Livewires Senior Cat Exhibit âșC hampion, Marcus Wolf, Liberty Livewires âșR eserve Champion, Jackson Dutcher, Chippewans Overall Cat Show and Exhibit âșC hampion, Lauren Thoennes, Moe Child Development âșC hampion, Ellie Cronquist, Carlos Happy Helpers âșR eserve Champion, Averie Mounsdon, Liberty Livewires Crafts/Kits Grades 3-5 âșC hampion, Lillian Kelly, Moses and Aaron âșR eserve Champion, Ethan Radil, Liberty Livewires Crafts/Kits Grades 6-8) âșC hampion, Jacob Schaffran, Moses and Aaron âșR eserve Champion, Rylee Bundermann, Lake Mary Troopers Crafts/Kits Grades 9 and up âșC hampion, Averie Mounsdon, Liberty
pandemic, 4-H youth continued to work. For many, 4-H is a generational activity, handed down from parents and grandparents, and they werenât going to let obstacles prevent them from doing what they love. Their leaders made sure to acknowledge their hard work, spending hours during what would have been Fair Week to provide youth with valuable feedback and judging a wide variety of categories. Here are the results.
