4-H
The smells and sounds of the fair were missing, but 4-H kids still showed up at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in August to demonstrate what they have learned about animals, crafts, gardening and food preservation.
4-H gets its
moment
Youth bring 4-H projects to fairgrounds for judging Normally, the Douglas County Fair would be the time to shine for 4-H’ers. They would be up early, washing and brushing their calves to a fine gloss, or combing their horse’s tails. They would be waiting in line to talk to the judge, holding structures made from Legos or popsicle sticks. During free moments, they might try to win a stuffed animal or enjoy a ride. pandemic, 4-H youth continued to work. For many, 4-H is a generational activity, handed down from parents and grandparents, and they weren’t going to let obstacles prevent them from doing what they love. Their leaders made sure to acknowledge their hard work, spending hours during what would have been Fair Week to provide youth with valuable feedback and judging a wide variety of categories. Here are the results.
