Dozens of golfers descended on the Alexandria Golf Club’s practice putting green to get in a few practice putts before the tournament began Wednesday night. The annual event is open, for a fee, to all competitors who enter the Resorters Golf Tournament.
Same last name, different brothers Vangsness, Black and Whiting take top honors in putting contest Last year, three of the final four competitors in the Resorters Putting Tournament included a Vangsness, a Black and a Whiting. Ditto for this year. But this time, different brothers took home the prizes. Instead of Casey Vangsness, Bryant Black and Tyler Whiting, the big winners were Ben Vangsness (first place), Bennett Black (second) and Derrick Whiting (third). Rounding out the top four was 13-yearold Peter Dierks of Leawood, Kansas. They outlasted a field of 64 contestants who showed off their putting talents at the Alexandria Golf Club’s
practice green Wednesday night. The putting was fast, furious and deadly as the single-elimination tournament narrowed down to the final four. Vangsness’ big win snapped a two-year winning streak held by
Tyler Whiting. Gift certificate prizes redeemable at the AGC pro shop ranging from $75 to $150 were awarded to the winners. As has proved to be the case in past tournaments, local golfers seem to hold an edge
