Over my three-year engagement with the Economics organization, what commenced as a simple membership evolved into a profoundly fulfilling journey. Progressing from a CORE member to an officer, I discovered more than just colleagues within EconOrg – I found a family. This community extends beyond professional affiliations; it's a tight-knit support system that comprehends my challenges and offers unwavering comfort.
In this organizational haven, my growth isn't confined to academics alone but extends to shaping my personality. EconOrg stands as a pivotal contributor to my collegiate trajectory, a testament to its impact on my holistic development.
To fellow members, I emphasize that EconOrg transcends the conventional boundaries of a college organization. In our smaller college milieu it metamorphoses into an indispensable support system and an enthusiastic cheering squad. These individuals are not just peers; they embody pillars of strength and encouragement. They serve as more than colleagues – they are the backbone of your collegiate journey, ready to provide support during academic challenges and personal struggles

Laughter and animated discussions fill the air as CORES and officers share their favorite moments from the games, reminiscing about the thrilling victories and friendly rivalries. Amidst the joyful chatter, deeper connections continue to blossom as participants discover common interests, shared experiences, and newfound appreciation for each other.
As the event draws to a close, participants leave with more than just memories of a funfilled day; they depart with a sense of camaraderie and belonging that extends beyond the event itself. Bonds forged during the Candy Crushing Fun event serve as a foundation for future collaborations, teamwork, and support within the CORES community.
As participants gather around, their eyes sparkle with anticipation for the fun-filled games that lie ahead. Each game station beckons with its own unique charm, offering a variety of challenges designed to delight and entertain. From classic favorites like Candy Crush to Valentine-themed trivia and memory challenges, there's a game for everyone to enjoy.
After the games have ended and the last candy has been crushed, the energy in the room remains vibrant as participants gather for a post-event celebration. Picture a cozy setting with soft lighting and comfortable seating arrangements, where participants mingle over refreshments and delicious treats.
As the day unfolded, a palpable sense of excitement and optimism permeated the room. Members were not just passive spectators but active participants, contributing their ideas, insights, and passion to the collective vision of the organization. In this collaborative spirit, bonds were forged, friendships were deepened, and a shared commitment to excellence was reaffirmed.
The 2nd General Assembly of the DLSU Economics Organization unfolded in the esteemed halls of the Gokongwei Building GK104-106 on January 24, 2024. As the organization's members gathered, anticipation filled the air for what promised to be a pivotal moment in their journey.
With enthusiasm and purpose, the organization's leadership took center stage, presenting meticulously crafted plans for the current term. From innovative projects to community engagement initiatives, every aspect of the organization's vision was meticulously outlined, reflecting a dedication to excellence and impact.
But it wasn't all business; the assembly seamlessly blended productivity with camaraderie as members engaged in a series of interactive activities. Picture a room alive with energy as participants bonded over team-building exercises, icebreaker games, and lively discussions. These activities not only fostered a sense of unity but also provided valuable opportunities for members to connect on a personal level, strengthening the fabric of the organization's community.
“Before joining the organization, I was not the type of person who actively engaged in various activities or the kind of person who engaged in leadership roles; I was more of a follower. However, once I joined the Economics Organization during my first year in college, I was invited to numerous events that actively trained my abilities to become more flexible and adaptable to multiple roles within the organization. Through this, not only did I hone the artistic skills that I had prior, but also, throughout the events and roles that the organization has put me through while I was a CORE Officer, it also cultivated my leadership skills.”

“Serving as the current Vice President for Creatives initially was quite a big task. There were learning curves, challenges and things I find to be a first for everything. Eventually, like all other things, you learn to be better with what you do and this role is no exception. It might just be because of amazing people I work with in my committee from dedicated AVPs to responsible COREs as well as people from other committees specially from Memberships and HRD who we are always just one chat away.
Eventually, I found that the biggest accomplishment I have is not by the number of events or publication materials published but through the experience I've had and people I've help lead to become better people or even leaders today. I hope that one day the 48th VP for Creatives can perhaps say the same things or even better. I was glad to have lead these talented people particularly my AVPs and wish for nothing but the best not only for their organizations but also for their academics and goals in life.”

How is the experience being the AVP of your committee? What do you think are your responsibilities in your committee?
“As an Assistant Vice President (AVP) of the Externals Committee, my experience has been a dynamic journey filled with challenges, growth, and meaningful connections. My primary responsibility involves assisting practicum students, sharing advocacies, and organizing initiatives like the Practicum Partners Forum, where we aim to offer insights into the work environment and internship opportunities with invited companies. Overall, it was a fulfilling experience to witness students gaining practical knowledge and securing internships through our efforts.
However, stepping into this role presented unique challenges. Unlike many of my peers, I didn't participate in the CORE program, making the transition difficult initially. Moreover, as a first-time member of any organization, balancing my commitments and managing time effectively proved to be a learning curve. Fortunately, the support of my colleagues was invaluable. Their guidance helped me navigate the learning curve, enabling me to contribute effectively.
Reflecting o life—a lega for persona invaluable carry forward within the organization and in my future endeavors.”
How is the experience being the AVP of your committee? What do you think are your responsibilities in your committee?
“Emphasizing the importance of time management, it is true that unexpected events often occur, presenting numerous challenges along the way. This experience taught me to become more responsible and organized, not only to meet deadlines also to fulfill the expectations of professors regarding my future role as an economist and businessman. The Academics Committee played a crucial role in building foundation of my studies and fostering connections with others. Additionally, I grateful for the acceptance and support I have received from the committee members. Learning extends beyond academics; it involves understanding from shortcomings. I have realized the vital role of communication, not only within committee but also within the organization itself.
The committee's responsibility is to address academic concerns of students and facilitate communication between officers and students to address present challenges. Furthermore, they aim to enhance the course curriculum through assessment and evaluation. They serve as advocates for change, developing programs and initiatives such as workshops, tutoring sessions, feedback mechanisms, and counseling services. Their purpose extends beyond academic concerns– ensuring that all voices are heard by the school administration to provide quality education, nurture students' potential, and foster success in their college experience.”

Young Economists’ Advocacy Essay Submission
The practice of courtship, or “Ligawan” in Tagalog, has undeniably undergone significant evolution over the years. Throughout Philippine history, there were stages a man had to go through to court their potential partner They had to prove their “worth” to the parents of the woman by showcasing their educational and economic status. This was often shown through their dowries, extravagant gifts, among other things, which would lead to matchmaking dates that would ease the couple into an arranged marriage (Fernandez, 2021). Now, modern-day courting has drastically evolved from its traditional roots.
For one, romantic partners no longer need to adhere to strict gender roles (Torres, 2023). Moreover, the world has adapted to the internet and online interactions through the advent of online dating applications and sites. This uncovers a potential risk for the younger generation, as the information being portrayed on the application can be heavily modified or insufficient, especially since
some dating profiles may have fabricated descriptions or even photos of other people. Through examining behavioral biases and concepts of market dynamics, economics can create strategies to reduce the risk of being attracted to a “red flag,” otherwise known as a person who bears harmful or toxic traits, and help a person find a more meaningful connection with their potential partner.
The main model of online dating involves models of scarcity. In the beginning, an individual can be easily excited over the overwhelming choices of potential partners, and this can be a double-edged sword. Initially, you may think the more choices that are available means that there is a higher chance of matching. However, you may soon develop “decision fatigue.” Actively swiping left (reject) and right (approve), hoping for a match, can become tiring, especially when you have not swiped right for a while or the people you swiped right for don’t match with you. At this point, you start to impulsively swipe with little to no consideration.
Now, if a more active account has constant matches, will they develop a certain fatigue? It is likely that after matching, one will tend to chat right away. If you match more often, the more you have to chat with another individual, and there is a greater likelihood that the thread will become a generic conversation.
What makes a connection meaningful? This can greatly differ between individuals, but a common factor would be one's attraction towards an individual. This attraction can have many prejudices that straightforwardly address the problem of fatigue caused by constant matches. A cognitive heuristic or decision-simplifying mechanism that individuals use to mitigate this is anchoring, where they use an easily accessible reference point to base their decisions on, making them gravitate toward the initial information they receive without further checking it (Hayes, 2021).
Comparing it with market dynamics is similar to purchasing stock from the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). A person may feel “attracted” towards a company with their successes portrayed in the media, leading them to invest in stocks without thorough consideration. However, this presents a significant long-term risk, as it overlooks crucial information that could determine the success or failure of the investment, which is why it is essential to look into the company's financial statements to reassess your decision-making. This concept applies to choosing somebody online. The person may have attractive physical features, but if you do not look past the readily available information, it is more likely that you will fall for them without being aware of their shortcomings.
“Can economics help us to make ourselves more attractive online, all while increasing the chances of attracting ideal matches?” In theory, it is possible. Game theory is a branch of economics that is generally used to create strategies and frameworks for better decision-making by considering the other
players’ thought processes (Hurtado, 2015). This framework is inspired by the Bayesian Nash Equilibrium. In essence, the Bayesian Nash equilibrium is used for decision-making under uncertainty or with incomplete information. In terms of online dating, the strategy is aimed at increasing your chances of attracting a potential partner. However, it is important to take into account that the expectation for the other person to adjust to drastic differences between your personality in real life and your online persona is unrealistic. Seeing impressive profiles may cause some degree of self-consciousness, which could tempt you to misrepresent information about yourself, which can lead to a problem of information symmetry. As a result, misinterpretations may occur, which can lead to deception. The moment your partner notices this, it opens up the decision for them to leave or stay in the relationship. If the person chooses to stay, there may be a change in trust within the relationship. At the same time, the worse outcome will result in losing the relationship and could emotionally affect both parties, resulting in a worse outcome than being rejected at the start when you were honest. Therefore, it is important to prioritize being honest and set realistic expectations. Portraying fabricated images and information is unsustainable and potentially creates negative consequences in the long term.
In summary, the dating scene in the 21st century has drastically changed. Due to the anonymity provided by the internet, courtship is a lot more complex. Given the prevalence of deception and misrepresentation in online dating profiles, it is more important to establish preventive measures to protect the emotional well-being of an individual while satisfying the measures needed for a stable relationship. Economics can be used as a tool to formulate strategies guided by frameworks that can create better circumstances for both parties involved.
