CHESSINGTON SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 22/10/2026

Everyone valued • Every day an opportunity •

Every moment focused on success

Dear Parents, carers and all in the Chessington community As we approach the end of the first half term of the new academic year I am amazed at all that our school community has achieved. This newsletter gives you a small insight into some of the activities that our wonderful students have participated in alongside hours and hours of great lessons. I know that I wrote to families in the summer celebrating our GCSE results but I wanted to share a video montage we put together to show the rest of the school community in their first assemblies of the year - I continue to be very proud of the Class of 2026’s achievements and look forward to celebrating with them at the awards evening on Thursday 19th November.

NEW BEGINNINGS Our new Year 7 and 12’s have settled in brilliantly, it feels like they have been here for way longer than 6 weeks. The Year 7’s did a grand job of tour guiding our prospective parents for our Open Evening. It was a hugely successful event with many families visiting us. The Open Mornings have been very well attended and my two ambassadors from Year 9, Lucia and Enrique could pretty much do the tour without me by the end! I am excited to see who will be joining us next year. Our Year 7’s thrived in their induction week and had an awesome time at The Chessington World of Adventures to celebrate the end of their first week, we also welcomed nearly 200 parents and families to our annual Year 7 BBQ which was a lovely event, enjoyed by all.

SILVER TIES I awarded silver ties to the following Year 11’s based on their progress made from Yr6 SATS to their Yr10 Mock exams - some outstanding progress which stands them in good stead for their GCSE later this year - well done! TRIPS + OUTREACH Year 11’s have been preparing for their next set of Mocks which begin after half term. I know that they will put 100% effort in and make themselves proud. The Yr11 Geographers have been on their second field trip which involved walking in the river! Rather them than me!

The Science department has been doing outreach with our local primary schools, supporting the 200 Year 6 students from local feeder schools, including Lovelace, Malden Manor and Ellingham. They have done a grand job in investigating electrical circuits.

Year 10 & 11 Drama students went off to the Rose Theatre to see Three Men and a Boat - the students represented Chessington very well and enjoyed the play. The visit was a critical part of their GCSE course and will support them in securing excellent grades in the future.

GREASE: THE MUSCIAL Sticking with the Drama department, the team auditioned students for our upcoming production of Grease. I have to be honest this is one of my favourite musicals and if 15 year old Ms Wilson had the opportunity to be in Grease she would have bitten your hand off! A huge thanks in advance to Miss Twomey, Mr Du Bock, Miss Pipkin and Mr Ide for the hours of rehearsals that lay ahead of them. The show will take place just before the Easter holidays so look out for the opportunity to buy tickets.

PARENT INFO We held Parent Information Evenings for each year group which were incredibly useful, it is really important as parents to attend these even if you have had a child in that year group previously. If you missed them then please do visit our website and see the presentations that staff did and ask any questions that you may have to your child’s Head of Year. Last week we had our first of two Year 11 Parents Evenings, it was really well attended and conversations were very focused on improvements to maximise grades. The prefects were selling revision guides and we sold over £400 worth of books - let’s hope that they are used effectively to support their revision. And finally, I am checking the weather forecast for Thursday this week for our annual Fireworks event, we have sold nearly 300 tickets to this awesome evening. I just hope that the rain keeps away! Looking forward to seeing many of you then.

Take care, Ms S Wilson Headteacher Chessington School
