hree words that aptly describe the “adventure” that was the “1st Philippine Energy Efficiency Forum 2010 (PEEF 2010)” sponsored by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) and held July 14 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. The conference’s timely theme: Enhancing Competitiveness through Energy Efficiency. Leave it to Mother Nature, however, to make the plenary sessions attended by some 300 persons both memorable and uncomfortable by sending a typhoon the night before to

knock out electric power. Those in attendance “air conditioned” themselves with whatever improvised “pamaypays” (fans) were on hand. And the heat meant many gentlemen in business suits had to park their jackets or risk heat stroke. Jokes about the ironic aptness of the power failure were rife during the conference. The outage and discomfort, however, forcefully drove home a major point the conference wanted to make: “Energy efficiency is the cheapest power available” Without energy efficiency, scenarios like this one on July 14 could be the norm in coming years - or far worse. For business firms, it would be akin to being hurled back to 1991, the year

made infamous by massive and sustained power outages. A scenario that has to be avoided by all means!

Power from “power-lessness” The “power-less” day of July 14, therefore, lent power to the prudent energy efficiency messages delivered by the forum’s speakers. It also made the launch of the “Energy Smart Program” and the signing of the Statement of Support for this milestone effort all the more urgent and momentous. One of the more pleasant surprises at the forum was the discovery a growing number of business firms have taken action to become energy efficient and thus more competitive.

Roland van Wijnen Chief Operating Officer

KMC MAG Group, Inc. While the majority of Michael’s professional background lies in IT consultancy, assisting Fortune 500 companies in Silicon Valley, he was drawn toward the world of real estate in 2007 upon his stay in Manila for an IT project. As the real estate sector in the Philippines continued to grow, Michael realized the potential for an American managed Commercial Real Estate firm, specifically catered toward the emergent Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector. As many North American & European companies were coming to the Philippines looking for a more familiar way of doing business, he saw an opportunity. With Michael’s IT background in project management for office space buildouts and network installations he saw a strong demand for large spaces, built to suit to the call center industry and the need for competent partnerships with such endeavors within the real estate industry.

Michael McCullough

In March of 2009 Michael incorporated KMC, which has in a short time become a recognized player in the real estate sector. Michael plays a vital role in the development of the business; meeting and working with clients from across the globe, always finding a way to accommodate their needs and is valued for his trusted real estate and IT knowledge.
