Associate Superintendent DEPARTMENT: Alaska Conference Office REPORTS TO: Alaska Conference Superintendent FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Exempt PURPOSE: To support the mission and ministry of the Alaska Conference through administrative leadership, local church support, and pastoral care RESPONSIBILITIES: • Shall work with and be responsible to the Superintendent. In accomplishing such, the Associate Superintendent shall provide particular leadership in areas designated by the Executive Board •Meets weekly with Superintendent to cover assignments, discuss ministry situations, review calendar and pray •Serve as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board •Provide administrative leadership that includes: leading weekly staff meetings; provide support in the annual budgeting process; implement management methods in order to improve workflow and increase overall efficiency of the office administrative functions; and oversee processes related to human resources; working with insurance companies and ECC administrative support •Accepts assignments from Superintendent that may include the following: filling in the Superintendent ex officio board role for the AC organizations when the Superintendent cannot be present, representing the Alaska Conference on official occasions and traveling in the place of the Superintendent as needed •Provides pastoral care and local church leadership support that may include but is not limited to: regular communication with pastors by phone, email or in person; assist in pastoral search processes, which includes helping to identify potential pastoral candidates for ministry in Alaska; coordinating pastoral care cases in concert with Ordered Ministry •Contributes to the development work of the Alaska Conference by helping to increase supporting churches from lower 48 and increasing individual donors •Submit a written report at Executive Board meetings and to the Annual Meeting SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Communications & Events, Office Manager, Financial Clerk LIASON TO: Bookkeeper REQUIREMENTS:

•Have minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or life experience commensurate to this education level. •Be an ECC credentialed minister in good standing and be teachable and willing to learn the unique cultural context of

ministry in Alaska. •Have good communication skills, both verbal and written. •Have a good, working knowledge of ECC polity at the local church level, as well as conference and national level. •Must be able to maintain confidentiality for sensitive information. •Be detail oriented, with a high degree of accuracy and skill in all work performed. •Functions well in a cross cultural environment, specifically between Western and Alaska Native culture, has a teachable attitude, is willing to be a team player. •Be able to work independently and show good judgment. •Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. •Be able to meet the demands of travel that will include at least one ECC national event, Alaska Conference annual meeting, pastor leader retreat, and local and state church connections. •Be reliable and dependable with regular, timely attendance. WORKING CONDITIONS: These duties will be conducted in an office environment with occasional trips to Alaska village settings. The daily job will include hours spent seated and working on a computer. The position also requires frequent travel by auto and plane. Must have adequate sight to meet the responsibilities of the job. Must be able to lift 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
