The gospel of Jesus, as shared by missionaries from Protestant churches, arrived over 125 years ago in Alaska, much to our joy. Through these years, a history of colonization and assimilation was written into the fabric of the United States of America. It is complex. This afternoon’s presentation will include a session on historical perspectives of these impacts, with specific focus on the Doctrine of Discovery; a panel will share about their learnings from “Journey to Mosaic” of the challenges and hope of the ministry of reconciliation; and you will interact in small groups to consider what God is calling us to do as the Alaska Conference, to love mercy and do justice.

ONE DAY FEE OF $15 COVERS WORKSHOPS AND MEALS. www.alaskacovenant/am2017 THESE SESSIONS RUN THE FULL AFTERNOON (1:30-5:00) – RSVP TO RECEIVE TRAINING MATERIALS _____ Advocates for Victims of Abuse (AVA) 1:30 – 5:00 pm (with scheduled break) LifeWay Research discovered that “Protestant pastors want to be helpful but often don’t know where to start…most say their church would be a safe haven for victims of domestic violence. But many don’t know if anyone in their church has been a victim of domestic violence.” This two-part workshop will define domestic violence, its impacts on faith and what the faith community—clergy and laypersons alike—can do to address and plan for these issues when they arise. Practical resources and testimonies will be shared as we consider how to advocate for the abused.

_____ National Covenant Properties (NCP) 1:30 – 5:00 pm (with scheduled break) This training is to provide participants with the tools and resources needed to provide good financial reporting for our churches. Topics to be covered include: what is the big deal with my church’s financial statements and reporting? Aligning your budget and your ministry plans, ministerial compensation and taxation, fraud risk assessment and prevention, introduction to real estate services, why church buildings matter, evaluating options and capital fundraising, generosity and stewardship.

God’s way of reaching and restoring the world has always been through blessing. 3:30-5:00 (for Pastors) Taste of the Missio Leadership Evangelism Cohort The Evangelizing Churches Cohort is a learning community that helps move pastors and churches through stages focused on increasing the senior pastor’s personal witness and raising the corporate evangelism temperature of our churches. Cohorts generate accountability, intentionality, leadership and resources around intentional evangelism. Ideas, problem solving and supporting each other in prayer will be a part of the process of implementing an influence strategy toward greater kingdom fruitfulness. Come experience a taste of an evangelism leadership learning community.

Courtney Eppler Lead Organizer, AFACT (Anchorage Faith and Action - Congregations Together) 1:30-3:00 p.m. What is Biblical Justice Anyway?

An open discussion about what the Bible says about justice in both the OT and NT as well as our call to justice as Christians, specifically Evangelicals. Courtney has her Masters of Arts in Justice and Mission from Denver Seminary. She hopes to share her own story about her continual journey towards justice as a Christian and listen to other’s stories as well.

3:30-5:00 Practical, Effective, and Relevant Ways to “Do Justice” in Alaska An open discussion about how we as Christians can engage practically and effectively in the world around us. Courtney is the lead organizer for AFACT (Anchorage Faith and Action- Congregations Together) and will teach on the fundamentals of Faith based community organizing as one of many practical ways to engage in justice ministry.”
