Commissioner Foluke Morris, Prescott Bush Resident

Commissioner Morris said that she and many others at Prescott Bush are ready “to get back on with life in a real sense” and for the world to open. Since moving from McQueeney Towers last January and recovering from a serious car accident, she understands the rigor of stress. She said that being on lockdown during the pandemic has given her a newfound resilience and strengthened her sense of community and mutual support.

“I’m generally used to being alone, but this is a whole different level and I see how its effect has changed us all,” she said, mentioning that residents in her building have been relying on each other often for encouragement and connection. “We check in on each other a lot and people have been great about social distancing and wearing their masks. Many of us haven’t seen our families in some time. Some of us shop or walk together, attend church by phone, and many rely on faith and hope to get us through this.” She said that while she’s excited about the future – especially with the advent of a vaccine – she is also still heartbroken about those who have lost people within her community and said the monthly Board meetings bring her joy, interacting with staff and the public.

“I’ve appreciated the rest that the pandemic has afforded us,” she said. “But I feel quite rested now, quite restored at this point, and am ready to resume life as we once knew it before. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
