FERPA Student Quick Guide Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects your student education records.

Education records Any record that is directly related to the student and maintained by EC3.

FERPA gives you the right to: ➢ Inspect and review your education records ➢ Request changes to your education records for inaccurate or misleading information ➢ Release your education records

Education records include: ✓ Your grades ✓ Your transcript ✓ Your class schedule ✓ Your student account info ✓ Class rosters

Legitimate Educational Interest When a faculty or staff member needs your student records to fulfill their duties for the College.

➢ Restrict access to your education records ➢ File a complaint for alleged FERPA violations

Who can access your student records? ➢ Generally, you have control over who can view your student records. ➢ Student records are released if you provide EC3 written permission to do so. ➢ School officials with a legitimate educational interest can view your records without your permission.
