URBAN DESIGN PROJECT

Design Studio 13’ - Muğla, Turkey

According to the upper scale decisions for the Muğla City, the agricultural lands on the southwest were converted to a City Farm. The selection of this particular area is because the area covers the entrance of the City Farm , the new railway station, the central square and the connection line between them. The main purpose of the project is to integrate the City Farm and the new railway station to the station through a commercial and public axis.

For the Muğla City curently having no railway line, a new line is proposed which pases through the northwest-southeast axix on the southwest periphery of the city. The new railway station is planed to be placed on the entrance of the City Farm. The aim for the area selection is to create an integrated entrance point for the city via new transportation mode and the recreation and production center, City Farm. The vehicle road which is Zübeyde Hanım Street was pedestrianized and a commercial street was created on the pedestrian road betwen the station and the center.

MIXED-USE TEMPORARY HOUSING

Architectural Urban Design Studio 14’ - Rome, Italy

1/200 architectural urban design project targets the provision of temporary housing for young people and students who mainly live around the neighborhood. The project area currently consists of two layers of parking area which has not been completed yet. In front of the project area, on the north-south axis, the road passes with the slope of 6%. This is the main challenge of the project. Therefore, he groundfloor plan on the left side covers the carparking area which needs the least sunlight.

The existing car parking structure consists of concrete cubic skeleton. In order to prevent unnecessary destruction and reduce the cost, the existing structure is used and the whole plan is designed by using this structure open and closed.

URBAN DESIGN PROJECT Design Studio 15’ - EskiĹ&#x;ehir, Turkey 1/1000 scale project area covers an old small industrial site and residential areas around it. According to the upper scale decisions, it is proposed to renew the site. Analysis of the district showed that the district mainly lacks from educational services. Besides, while most of the men population in the district are industrial workers, the women population work as seasonal workers. In order to create an opportunity to contribute economical development for the district at household level, part of the site is converted into public education center. Around a public square, together with the public education building, social care center, congres and culture center and small working studios are placed. In order to supply afordable housing for the low income group living in the area, a pilot social housing are is proposed at the south of the public center. Besides, for the residential areas which are curently in a bad condition, the transformation is implemented for increasing the housing quality. The industrial site on the north is protected as function and the buildings are renewed.

All the transformation areas are connected to the central square with pedestrian paths and comercial buildings.

The main square is considered to be used as an exhibition area for the goods produced in studios. These studios will also work as applied training areas of the public education center. Because the neighborhood lacks social services, the social care center will respond the needs of the residents. Congress and culture center will create opportunity for social and cultural activities

Land-Use

The commercial and public functions constitute the hearth of the project. The commercial functions extend to the residential areas along with the tram line. Due to the lack of public schools in the area, three prep. schools are distributed to the neighborhood which would also serve to the industrial site.

Section A

The existing residential structure consist of mostly two or three floored housing units, and there is almodt no green area in the neighborhood. Therefore, in order to free up some space and create common open spaces between the buildings, the heights of the buildings are increased to four floors.

At the fringe of the center, a new social housing area is proposed. This area is connected to the central public area through pedestrian paths. Near social housing blocks, a large green area is proposed in order to support the green system.

Future Disaster Scenario:

“The overpopulation and the overconsumption of the world will lead the future cities be faced with the massive density. The grey colour of the massive buildings will consume all the green. The nature will start to disappear. We will be enclosed behind the walls. There will be no open space to breathe. The ground will not be enough for the future generations. We have to find a new way to live!�

Air Space Parcel Each individual has his/her own air space parcel & 3d construction pyroperty at a certain volume. If individual has cooperative production, this air space parcel could enlarges according to production volume.

The volumes of construction spaces could change also according to co-habitation, but it is not increased arithmetically. The collective living units are identifed by min. livable area for number of people.

Analiz

Doğal Sit Sınırı

Sosyo-Kültürel Yapı Çanakkale’de son yıllarda 18 Mart Üniversitesi’nin gelişmesiyle artan genç nüfus kentin sakin yaşamına canlılık katmaktadır. Her yıl düzenlenen Troia Festivali, “Barış Kültürümüz Olsun” sloganıyla geleneksel bir hal almıştır. Ayrıca, Fevzipaşa Mahallesi’nde bulunan yoğun Roman Nüfusu tarafından her yıl düzenli olarak gerçekleştirilen Roman Şenliği kentli için önemli bir yer tutmaktadır.

Kente ait diğer miraslar ise Troia ve Çanakkale Savaşları’ndan geriye kalan eserler ve tarihi yapılardır. Bu yapılar günümüze kadar titizlikle korunmuş ve hala önemini kaybetmemiştir. Kentin her noktasında tarihi yansıtan izlere ve önemli sembollere rastlamak mümkündür. Proje alanının batı ucunda bulunan Çimenlik Kalesi de, Çanakkale Savaşları sırasında önemli bir kontrol noktası olarak kullanılmış, hasar görmüş ancak restorasyon ve koruma çalışmaları ile bugüne kadar yaşamını sürdürmüştür. Çanakkale XVII. yüzyıl sonlarından XX. yüzyıl başlarına dek önemli bir seramik merkezi olmuştur. Burada çoğunlukla çukur tabak, kâse, küp, sürahi, testi ve vazolar yapılmıştır.

Günümüzde Çanakkale’de toprak işçiliği vazo, saksı, Samdan vb. yapımıyla sürmektedir.

Tescilli Yapılar

Çevresel Kirlilik Durumu Çanakkale’de hava kirliliğine neden olan kaynaklar; sanayi, evsel ısınma kaynaklı emisyonlar ile trafikten kaynaklanan emisyonlardır. . Kentin başlıca ekonomik faaliyeti olan tarım, kullanılan zehirli ilaçlar sebebiyle kentin su ve toprak gibi doğal kaynaklarını kirletmektedir. Sarıçay, denize ulaşana kadar geçtiği yerlerde zehirli zirai ilaçlar sebebiyle yüksek miktarda kirliliğe maruz kalmaktadır. Kente ulaştığında ise sanayi atıklarının suya deşarj edilmesi sebebiyle kirlilik oranı daha da artmaktadır. Ancak Sarıçay üzerinde düzenli bir biçimde temizleme çalışmaları yapılmamaktadır. Çaydaki kirlilik sebebiyle ekolojik yapı zarar görmektedir ve pek çok balık ve bitki türü yok olmaktadir.

THE SCIENCE CITY

The Project, Science City, is an architectural project which invests on the intellectual histor y of humanity which substantially ourished in the motherland of Egyptian Civilization. On this heritage, which was deened itself with science, ar ts and philosophy, the modern Egypt does tempt to regenerate this old intellectual vibe in its contemporar y urban environment.

Within this context, with the realized project of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Grand Egyptian Museum, the already star ted one, the Science City represents the third phase of this overarch cultural program. This given condition, as a matter of fact, motives the design process as well as eecting its perceived architectural characteristicss

Team: Urban Design Studio 15’

Since the dawn of modern human, the basic instinct of our species that evolution ensured has been survival. The entire struggle against nature and all the wars between the tribes and nations have been motivated by this powerful drive, which is used to be both destructive and productive in the whole course of history. After 200,000 years since the emergence of the first homo sapiens sapiens, the civilization is about facing a substantial transformation in its instinctive nature. A new type of human is about evolving to replace its established instincts for survival with a new driving force of its future being. Human v2.0 is not to be coded by the unavoidable desire for survival, but that for dasein.

Considering the concentrated and collective effort of the contemporary societies for the habitation of Mars -suggesting the closest environmental conditions to the Earth-, the design team presents a future scenario for the colonization of Mars within next 110 years: The Project Dasein.

The total scenario of the colonization process is composed of six phases having different time periods. In each phase, the pioneering teams and task forces are described as the generators of settlement, development and growth. Performing in accordance with the determined mission, each team provides the necessary (infrastructural ) condition for the realization of the habitation within the given period. For each period, the spatial program of the development is given along with the design parameters for modeling the formation of the Marsian settlements, the Collectives.

THE RETURN

“To dwell means to belong to a given place” Christian Norberg-Schulz (1984)

As the locus of many civilizations in the motherland of Anatolia, Ankara is a city multi-layered city where one could trace various strata hosted so many lives and stories. Within the mature fabric of life, Ulus is the heart of that profound existence.

While the ‘new city’ is writing its own history, Ulus still resists on a rapid rupture of the present as if it never wants to betray its past, memories and the place identity created over decades.

Nevertheless, the most crucial feature of life is future. You cannot escape from it even if you have Romans in personal history. Then what would happen to an old wise city in a future, when the old does not have any meaning for the new at all?

Year: 2067. Ankara is not a secondary city under the hegemony of the old Byzantian metropolis. Attracting huge mass of people searching for prosperity and hope (as in good old days..) Ankara is about regenerating on what exist. After years of neglect, Ulus has a new vibe for creative concentration of people. Through a dramatic increase in population, the city has an emerging challenge to accommodate the newcomers in a quick and sustainable manner.

The core city of Ankara was composed by hyper density, high-rise urban fabric that lacks open spaces for people. At a certain point, the existing fabric had no capacity to carry such overpopulation and started to crumble in time. The only places that survived against such a collapse are the ones having their roots in history. Ulus, in this sense, are one of those in the city.

People reject to live in an environment of degradation. The decline of personal spaces and the loss of public places like green areas and open recreational sites where people gather, interact and share led people to seek for a new forms of dwelling in the search for a new life patterns. This search ends up with the return to the place where all begins…

The gradual collapse of the old fabric leads to the emergence of new development pattern within the city. The new fabrication technologies allow people to construct their own living places not only on the ground, but also in the air. Making use of the surviving urban fabric mainly consisting of the historic buildings, the new settlement typology is generated over a flexible 3D-structure. Future inhabitants of the city create new living units and common spaces by adopting various activities spontaneously. The old distinction between the designer and the layman is not valid anymore. Everybody is designer of his own living environment; all the people are the creator of their city!

Winston Churchill (1944) Three-dimensional settlement system provides inhabitants with the freedom of movement, and free accessibility to different use and activities. Conventional segregations in space are dissolved in time, and replaced with the lively complexity of the new collectivity. When it all re-began in Ankara, people did not only shape their environment, but also the life in future.
