INTRODUCTION

Escape Into a Book As summer comes to an end and school routines begin, fall is the perfect time to build on children’s reading habits and keep the excitement of reading alive. Reading offers an escape during uncertain times, hard days, or even bad weather—and opens the door to new adventures without ever leaving home. Fresh stories can spark curiosity, strengthen literacy, and remind young readers that books are about more than schoolwork. They help children explore emotions, relationships, identity, and experiences beyond their own. Diverse stories, in particular, offer new perspectives, encourage empathy, and inspire meaningful conversations. Our fall collection features engaging titles across biographies, health, mysteries, science fiction, humor, and more. Whether you’re selecting for your library collection, outreach programs, or personal TBR, these books offer opportunities for children to discover, learn, imagine, and connect—all season long and beyond.

Enjoy!

Greetings, librarians! With Dyslexia Awareness Month arriving in just a few days, it seems the perfect time for a partnership update. Since early 2025, we’ve partnered with the nonprofit Teach My Kid to Read, an organization formed in part as the result of the challenges two mothers faced while looking for resources to help their own struggling readers achieve literacy. With over 40 states now having Science of Reading policies built into their curriculum, parents and caregivers are heading to the public library in search of appropriate reading materials. Libraries can bridge the gap for families by offering access to books, tools, and information that many don’t even know exist. Teach My Kid to Read and their Literacy @Your Library online community can assist in helping you find resources for funding, planning your space, and building community awareness; you can sign up for a 30-day trial at any time. Recently, we co-hosted Building a Literacy Hub: A Panel Discussion with Librarians Who’ve Done It with hundreds of registrants, evidence that librarians are eager to add decodables and evidencebased reading materials to their youth collections. How does Brodart factor into this equation? Via our partnership, we will work with your library to ship shelf-ready materials, fully cataloged and processed, to fill your Community Literacy Hub. Learn more about how it all works by downloading our Community Literacy Hub overview or browse our Hub Collection in Bibz. We will be attending the ALSC National Institute in Buffalo October 1st-3rd with lots of goodies and a great giveaway. In addition to having our space in the exhibit hall, Teach My Kid to Read will have a fullsized Community Literacy Hub set up and they’ll be presenting an overview of Literacy @Your Library on Friday afternoon from 3:45PM - 4:45PM. We hope to see you there. If you have questions in the meantime about bringing decodable books and resources into your library, please reach out via BYS@brodart.com. Until then, happy reading!
