2011 Chief Agri/Industrial Project of the Year The Norfolk Archery Club held its traveling trophy competition 2010 Chief Agri/Industrial Project of the Year on Thursday, March 26, during regular league night. Placing fi rst in handicap score was Brian Lorenz of Osmond with a score of 315. Tying for second place were Kyle Glaser of Norfolk and Heath Cornett of Wisner with a score of 312, and taking third was Regina Lorenz of 2006 Chief Agri/Industrial In the photo above, Shania Hansen (left) presents Project of the Yearthe traveling trophy to Brian. Scratch winners were Heath Cornett, fi rst with 300; Paul Loberg of Randolph, second with 299, and Justin Ross of Wisner, third with 297. EBM Construction of Norfolk and Farmers Pride Cooperative were recently awarded the 2014 Chief Industries Project of the Year at its annual dealer meeting. Guy Ellsworth, president and CEO of EBM Construction, submitted the Neligh terminal site project as the company’s best Chief build during 2014. EBM and Farmers Pride were chosen because of the unique features of the new grain facility in Neligh. “Chief Industries recognized this project as a truck terminal grain facility and its unique effi ciencies featuring its excellent speed and space for the farmer,” stated Ellsworth. Pictured are Dean Thernes, general manager of Farmers Pride, and Guy Ellsworth, president of EBM. Farmers Pride is owned by 5,000 farmers and ranchers across northeast Nebraska with locations in Battle Creek, Bloomfi eld, Ewing, Madison Newman Grove, Neligh-Oakdale, O’Neill, Oakland, Osmond, Pierce, Plainview and Snyder.

LENRD continues to protect groundwater
The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD) Board of Directors is considering whether to adopt some changes to its groundwater management rules. The LENRD Board is currently working with staff to gather information and come up with new categories that may allow for small amounts of irrigated acres to be developed through the variance process.
LENRD General Manager Mike Sousek said, “The board will consider several changes, including whether to add an extra category to our variance process, which will give us some fl exibility to handle certain irrigation certifi cation situations that we otherwise could not.”
