Volume Discounts Purchased by one firm, discount starts with your 3rd bull as follows: 3 bulls = 3% discount; 4 bulls = 4% discount; 5 bulls = 5% discount; etc. 10 or more bulls = 10% discount. No discount on bred heifers.
On-Line Purchase Policy If you are interested in some of the cattle selling and are unable to attend the sale, we can purchase the cattle for you on order. We guarantee your satisfaction, or you don’t own them. Please call early so we have time to visit about the offering.
Feeding Arrangements & Delivery YEARLING BULLS: Kept free of charge until April 15th. We would like them to go back to our place until April 15th at which time we will semen test, give all prebreeding shots, pour, worm, and freeze brand. We will then deliver them to you as soon as we are able. We offer free delivery to South Dakota and surrounding states. We will help with travel coordination on cattle sold beyond these boundaries. The cattle going long distances maybe delivered earlier. Werning Cattle Company will take responsibility of injury or death loss while the bull is in our care.

OLDER BULLS & BRED HEIFERS: We would appreciate that all coming two year old bulls and bred heifers go home sale day or delivery arrangements made very shortly after the sale.
We take every precaution for the care and safety of your purchases. Yearling bulls can be kept free of charge at our risk until April 15th. Insurance available sale day.

Carcass Information A supplement sheet will be available sale day with ultrasound data and DNA results.
Semen Interest Werning Cattle Co. will be retaining at least one-third revenue sharing semen interest in all bulls selling. This means if we would like to collect semen on the bull for our own use, we would have the option to do so. Also, if semen is sold we would retain one-third revenue. The new owners of the bulls will have full possession and full salvage value.
The bulls are semen tested and guaranteed to be breeders. Any problem you have with our bulls is our problem. We will do our best to correct any problems that may occur. If a problem does occur we offer a suitable replacement if we have one available or credit towards a future purchase. The bred heifers are pregnancy checked and guaranteed to calve within the time period printed.

Explanation of How to Utilize API and TI Indexes
First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more information, visit www.simmental.org.
Definitions of Terms
Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in firstcalving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.

We have known Dale and his family for many years and, like all of you, have always respected the Wernings as a family, their ability to raise great cattle and the way they do business. As you follow the Simmental and Angus breeds, it has been fun to watch Werning Cattle Company experience some great success the last number of years. The Elite Bred Heifer Offering – Simmental & SimAngus™ In the past couple years we have reached that point of running the absolute maximum number of cows our resources can handle. The decision is to sell mature cows or to sell more bred heifers and retain a smaller number each year. Our philosophy has been to really identify those outstanding cows that stay in the herd for a long time, raise a big calf with minimal inputs, and are good uddered & easy fleshing. With that said we want to replicate those good proven cows as much as we can through their daughters and granddaughters. This brings us to selling a deeper set of bred heifers than we have ever before and you can rest assure their dams have passed all the tests to stay in the herd. We had a great breeding this past summer and bred about one third of the heifers off of natural heats and the rest were bred on May 20th using the 14 day CIDR protocol. There is only six of these females that did not stick A.I. if that tells you anything about the fertility of these cattle as a whole. They are bred to the most exciting and proven bulls we could find to have a calf that can pay for them and more in the first year.
