This past year has been challenging. At every turn, we’ve faced a system prioritizing profits over people. Dangerous tough-on-crime policies continue to disproportionately harm low-income communities of color, dismantling safety and opportunities. And in this latest election cycle, we’ve witnessed the support for dangerous propositions designed to imprison instead of strengthen our communities.

Despite the challenges, we’ve made major strides. Our team has worked tirelessly, lobbying for the rights of our disenfranchised loved ones and stopping a record-breaking 100 harmful bills from passing through the California legislature
Expanding Connections: Beyond Sacramento, we are strengthening our ties to our incarcerated community members. We regularly engage with over 12,000 folks in California jails and prisons through our Prison Mail Program.
Realizing the Racial Justice Act: This year, we brought updated English and Spanish RJA materials to thousands of incarcerated people by mail and workshops inside to help them take charge of their freedom journeys.
Strengthening Impacted Leaders: Our Inside/Outside Fellowship continues to amplify the expertise and leadership of those directly impacted, bringing their and other incarcerated community members’ perspectives into the policy discussions happening in Sacramento and shaping our upcoming priorities.

Our communities know what safety looks like –healthcare, housing, mental health support, and education. nd we now what it’s not – more prisons and harsher laws.
As Proposition 36 goes into effect, we know what the impacts will be: it will set back community safety, incarcerating more of our loved ones. The fight is far from over now is the time to unite and resist; your gift will fuel the pushback.
