Uxbridge On-Line Inc. CEO Easy Math for Kids Witnessing her parents struggle to financially support their family of nine children, Annie realized at a young age that education and personal development were essential for achieving financial freedom. It’s a lesson that has served Annie well, and she continues to share it with others as an educator and entrepreneur. Annie arrived in Canada from Hong Kong in 1980 and pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, majoring in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. In 2010, she pursued her passion for education by establishing a child learning center focused on mathematics. Since 2020, Annie has pivoted the learning center program to an online virtual classroom as well as a hybrid setting, featuring an in-class facilitator and virtual teacher. Her vision is to deliver high quality, affordable and accessible education to children around the world. In 2023, Annie expanded the program to Asia through her Hong Kong company, Easy Zone Education Limited. One of Annie’s passions is youth empowerment, and operating in a virtual space has provided her company opportunities to collaborate with universities and colleges on research projects and student placement programs, offering students valuable real-world experiences in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) and ELearning fields. Annie also supports local youth employment by hiring staff ranging from high school and university students to young adults. Annie’s abacus program is based on incremental learning to enhance students’ fundamental mental math abilities while improving listening and processing skills. Recognizing the diverse learning preferences, the program integrates visual, kinesthetic and auditory learning strategies through the use of both a digital and physical abacus as manipulative tools. Additionally, the program incorporates a game-based approach to make learning fun and engaging for students. Abacus Fundamentals I is the first unit of a three-part series designed to help elementary students build a strong foundation in addition and subtraction using the abacus. This introductory unit familiarizes students with the recognition of beads on the abacus, simple finger movements, abacus commands, and the method of complements (of five and ten) for addition and subtraction. Students will also be introduced to listening image training to improve their auditory and visual abilities.
