COMMUNITY

The Waterfront is Springing to Life Take a walk around the village and meet the neighbors.

Since opening in the spring of 2021, The Waterfront has come to life. Its first collection of residences and amenities is complete. Today Waterfront Park is filled with children frolicking in the fountain, families moving in, and residents and visitors alike enjoying coffee, juices, or frosé at The DIME. The village’s waterfront restaurant, The Kingstide, has already made the no. 1 spot on Eater Carolinas’ list of the Hottest New Restaurants in Charleston, as well as making the Top 11 Seafood Restaurants for a Fresh Catch in Charleston and Where to Drink in Charleston Now.

Meet some of The Waterfront’s newest residents! You’ll find them on the river, bicycling The Waterfront’s trails, and taking a dip in the pool.

Introducing Justin Hopson ––– Justin hails from New Jersey. He moved to Charleston upon retiring from law enforcement, and then to his new townhome at The Waterfront. “When I moved to Charleston in 2007,” he says, “Daniel Island was no man’s land. Now, 14 years later, it’s become the place to be.” The vision for the village and waterfront park is what first piqued his interest in the community. “Once I realized the potential of what The Waterfront was going to be,” he says,

One of the first residents to move in to The Waterfront, Justin and his family call The Sandpiper home. “Looking out from the master bedroom of our townhome, there’s a wide view of the pool and a beautiful live oak tree that shades it. With the landscaped trees it looks like a resort, especially at night when everything is lit up. I looked at it during the day and was impressed, but when I saw it at night, I thought: this is a permanent vacation.”

COMMUNITY

Introducing Rob and Terri Taylor ––– Originally from Westerville, Ohio, Texas residents Rob and Terri just celebrated 31 years of marriage… with a second home at The Waterfront. The couple—Daniel Island Country Club members who have two sons, two daughters, a granddaughter, and another one on the way, as well as a grandson— recently began to look for a place on Daniel Island they could call home. “When we stopped by The Waterfront in its early stages,” Terri says, “we fell in love. Driving down River Landing Drive as we entered the community, seeing the waterfront and marina: it felt like we were coming into a vacation resort.” The location of the village was a decided advantage for the couple, giving them access to a plethora of leisure activities

“We really enjoy being near the water. And since Daniel Island is not our primary residence, having a ‘lock and leave’ setup is really important.”

in The Waterfront and nearby. “We really fell in love with the area,” says Rob. “We love the convenience of being able to walk to The DIME coffee shop and The Kingstide. Whether it’s playing golf, getting a quick workout in at the fitness center, heading down to the pool for an afternoon, riding our bikes on the waterfront trails, or walking to some of the great restaurants on Daniel Island, it’s all close by.”

Introducing Cathy Dezelon ––– Another native of New Jersey, Cathy always knew she’d retire to Charleston. A friend and realtor suggested The Waterfront to her. “She mentioned the ease of condominium living for someone who likes to travel,” she says. Cathy also enjoys books, the beach, wine, and bicycle riding. “I would like to pick up a golf club again,” she adds. Here she’s in good company: her mother, sister, and brother-in-law live on Daniel Island, and her son, a daughter-inlaw, and baby grandson reside in Mount Pleasant. In fact, she chose The Waterfront in part because of the proximity to them, along with the view. “And the gorgeous condominium,” she says.

“The East West team goes out of their way to make residents happy and introduce us to each other.”

A surprise for Cathy has been how much both residents and the community enjoy The Waterfront, and each other. “The part I did not anticipate,” she says, “is the people at The Waterfront. Everyone is friendly and so open to meeting one another.” She is looking forward herself to meeting more people and becoming part of the community.

Smiling Faces in Beautiful Spaces A property management team that delights in hospitality

East West Hospitality is known for creating warm relationships. Director of Operations Joe Helminski along with the general manager of The Waterfront’s property management team, Sandra St. John — and their hand-selected team members — aim to serve and delight the homeowners of this unique village community on the riverfront of Daniel Island. “We are thrilled to immerse ourselves in The Waterfront community. Our foremost goal at East West Hospitality is to build enduring and genuine relationships here, earning the trust of our property owners at The Waterfront,” says Joe.

If you’re new to Daniel Island or Charleston, we’ll give recommendations and tips that only locals know. We like to be that conduit to a new life on Daniel Island. We love to introduce neighbors to each other and help build this sense of community.”

The team’s Building Link app also offers up convenience. Residents are able

to easily communicate needs to the property management team, receive package notifications, and effortlessly log a work order. And with an onsite maintenance supervisor, residents can easily schedule a ceiling fan or light fixture install as an a la carte service.

“Building Link enables us to communicate effectively with our residents who

may not live at The Waterfront full time. We are able to keep them up to date with what is happening,” says Sandra. “For those new residents who aren’t familiar with life in the Lowcountry, we can send simple tips on how to prepare for certain situations.”

That starts with boots on the ground. “One of the nicest things about having

us on site,” Sandra adds, “is peace of mind. We’re physically here every day Monday through Saturday, but even in the evenings and on Sundays and holidays we provide on-call service.” If something should happen that needs immediate attention, such as a plumbing emergency, residents can call in and the team will be notified immediately. “They can rest easy knowing there’s always someone to
