ETBU Celebrates Enrollment Growth as the Fall 2023 Semester Begins

East Texas Baptist University celebrates record enrollment in Fall 2023 with 1,833 students, the highest total in the institution's 111-year history. Total enrollment increased 3.5% over Fall 2022, and the University’s total enrollment has exceeded 1,700 students in three of the last four fall terms

Students Welcomed to their Home on the Hill

The 2023-2024 academic year is off to an exciting start at East Texas Baptist University. After a summer spent working, traveling, and serving, students arrived on the Hill at ETBU for August Mini-Term classes, Move-In Day, Tiger Camp, and the official start of the Fall 2023 semester on August 14.

"It is exciting to see a new year begin and anticipate what God has in store for our University," ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn said. "I am grateful for the faithful work of our ETBU Family that equips students in their intellectual development and spiritual

formation. I am praying that our campus community will stand firmly for the Lord and experience the presence of Jesus as we pursue His purposes for our lives and ETBU."

Tiger Athletic Mission Experience Takes

ETBU Women's Soccer to New Zealand

The East Texas Baptist University Women’s Soccer Team had a unique opportunity to minister to the people of New Zealand during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as part of the Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME), July 18-31. The team engaged the community through soccer, mission projects, prayer, and conversations during the 14-day mission trip.

“God opened doors for our team to minister and share the gospel throughout the trip,” ETBU Head Women’s Soccer Coach Kristin Cox said.

Alumni Spotlight

Bonnie Collins (‘02) owns and serves as a broker for Bonnie Collins Group: Homes, Ranch, Land in Tomball, Texas. “I came to the Hill looking for real people who loved Jesus and that’s what I found here.”

Initially enrolled in a larger university, Bonnie Collins transferred to ETBU for her junior year. “I was struggling to make friends and find my place at a large university. I had attended Super Summer at ETBU for four years in high school. The Lord put it on my heart to transfer to ETBU even though I did not want to attend a small university. I knew I had to obey Him, so I transferred...”

With a leap of faith, she transferred to ETBU during her junior year. The campus soon became a place where she could cultivate many Godly friendships

Leaving a Legacy

ETBU Legacy student, Aubrey Andrews, is proud to follow in the footsteps of her parents, Daniel (’01) and Mandy (Coffey) Andrews ('01) as an ETBU Tiger. Aubrey is one of over thirty Legacy students who have benefited from the Rufus Spraberry Alumni Scholarship this academic year. The Office of Alumni Relations is working to grow the Alumni Scholarship Fund so that more scholarships can be distributed to additional Legacy students. Registration is now open for Homecoming 2023! Mark your calendar and plan to return to your Home on the Hill! Visit the familiar places of your college home and some of the new facilities around campus. Reconnect with ETBC/ETBU friends while making new memories at Homecoming 2023.

If you are a member of the Tiger Class of 1973, please make plans to be recognized during the Homecoming Chapel Service on Friday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m. Friday night, there is a Lady Tiger Volleyball game as well as an ETBU Jazz Band concert and the Theatre Department's production of The Cagebirds. Saturday morning, there are reunions for every decade and a family tailgate carnival before the Tiger Football game versus Sul Ross at 1:00

Award Winning Tigers

The 2022-23 athletic season for East Texas Baptist University was their finest in program history. The Texas Tigers won four conference championships, participated in eight national tournaments, and swept the American Southwest Conference major awards. This year also brought eight AllAmericans, several academic team awards, and ETBU led the ASC in Distinguished Scholar-Athletes. It was a great year to be a Texas Tiger.

ETBU's Blue Bengal Grocery Company, located inside Billy & Winky Foote Hall at Tiger Yard, is now open. Inspired by urban grocery markets like Southpoint Grocery in Memphis, Royal Blue Grocery in Austin, and Foxtrot Market in Chicago and Dallas, the Blue Bengal is an on-campus micro-market store, providing a vast array of grocery foods, snack items, beverages, household essentials, and branded merchandise for students, faculty, and staff.
