Join European 24hr Mountain Bike Champion, bikepacking adventurer and festival speaker Naomi Freireich on a winter gravel ride on some of the Tweed Valley’s finest forest roads and trails. Suitable for novice riders with a good level of fitness. Led by women’s mountain bike guiding and tuition company Swift Trails (with coffee, cake and additional awesomeness from FINDRA).

It’s been another busy year at the John Muir Trust’s Glenlude property. Come and see how the Trust, together with volunteers, local groups and charities, continues to rewild a once depleted upland landscape into a mosaic of native habitats.

Explore Cademuir Hill Jack Harland 10am – 12.30pm Meet top of Edderston Road, Peebles, EH45 9JD Ahead of his festival appearance on Sunday, local author Jack Harland leads a delightful 6km walk that explores the history, geology and wildlife of lovely Cademuir Hill – a route that will appear in a subsequent volume of his Highland Journal series of books. Suitable for walkers with a good level of fitness.

Naomi Freireich, British and European 24hr Mountain Bike Champion, traces her journey from non-cyclist to elite athlete, and explains how endurance riding fuels her passion for exploring wild places – including bikepacking through Kyrgyzstan as part of the 2018 Silk Road Mountain Race. Making Waves Short films + Cal Major 6.30 – 9.30pm (interval: 7.15pm) Auditorium Tonight’s short films explore adventures in the world’s oceans followed, after the interval, by an evening with Cal Major, ocean advocate, explorer and founder of Paddle Against Plastic.

Driven by her passion for preserving and protecting our coastline, Cal uses epic stand-up paddleboard adventures – including a worldfirst 1,000-mile paddle from Land’s End to John O’ Groats in 2018 – to highlight the issue of plastic pollution, capture imaginations and promote positive change. £15, £8 under 15, adult and child £20

Wild about Scotland Short films + Peter Cairns 2 – 4pm (interval: 2.45pm) Auditorium A session of short films exploring encounters with wild places (and things) followed, after the break, by an afternoon with wildlife photographer and cameraman Peter Cairns.

As part of SCOTLAND: The Big Picture, Peter and many of Scotland’s other top photographers and camera operators have spent years capturing the beauty of the country’s landscape and its wild inhabitants.

This sensory and immersive ride through the highs and lows of professional cycling follows Scotland’s David Millar as he, bluntly and fearlessly, narrates his last season in the saddle.

It’s an astonishingly intimate portrait not just of a controversial figure but also the complex relationships between cyclist, road crew, fellow competitors, fans and the media circus that surrounds them all.

Tonight’s short films explore adventures in cold places followed, after the interval, by an evening with wild swimmer Calum Maclean.

The hugely entertaining star of the BBC’s online channel The Social and BBC Alba, Calum is a film-maker and TV presenter with a passion for cold water, physical pain and wild Scottish landscapes…preferably all at the same time.

Join him as he reveals (almost) all about the joys of taking the plunge in remote – and usually Baltic – lochs and rivers.

Published to wide acclaim in 2018, local author Jack Harland’s Highland Journal is an illustrated memoir of his journey from wide-eyed hill walking novice to competent mountaineer.

Join Jack as he shares tales of hair-raising adventures and explains his deep passion for the mountains, geology and natural history of the northwest Highlands.

A session of short films that explore twowheeled adventures, followed by a screening of the winner of this year’s amateur Outdoor Shorts competition. After the break, Hans Rey, the former World Champion, Mountain Bike Hall of Famer and adventurer, takes us on a journey through his incredible career. Hans covers his early riding days, extreme biking feats – including the first bike descent of Mt. Kenya, riding the Indian Himalayas, the Alps, Inca Trail and the Sinai Desert – and how his Wheels4Life charity is changing the world, one bike at a time.
