WRAP WRAP

What is WRAP? A Smoking Cessation Program A Smoking Cessation Program
Do you want to quit using nicotine, may have even tried it before – but haven’t been successful? Or you’re not quite ready to quit, but are willing to begin thinking about it? The good news is that we can choose to live a healthier life!
Nicotine is a MAJOR ADDICTION and the most common substance abuse disorder among people with mental health disabilities. People with mental illness and addictions smoke half of all cigarettes produced but, health benefits start the first day you are nicotine-free – after 15 years of not smoking, your risk of heart disease and smoking-related death becomes similar to a person who never smoked. Developing a healthy lifestyle does not have to be overwhelming. It can be a step-by-step process making small changes towards the bigger goal of “Complete Wellness.”
Do you want to begin making changes that will help you live a healthier life? People with mental health diagnoses may practice unhealthy lifestyle habits such as lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, overeating, smoking and drug abuse, not visiting health professionals regularly, and not getting enough sleep. These behaviors can lead to increased risk for disability and illnesses, such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and sometimes even cause premature death.
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) is a framework with which you can develop an effective approach to overcoming distressing symptoms and unhelpful behavior patterns in particular, smoking. WRAP is a prevention and wellness process anyone can use to get well, stay well, and make positive changes in the way they feel about, and react to life. Five key concepts; hope, personal responsibility, education, self-advocacy, and support will be discussed in this group.
