Become a Bystander Rescuer! with Narcan (naloxone HCL). This session empowers you to take action in the fight against the opioid crisis and make a difference! By becoming a bystander RESCUER, you’ll gain the skills to identify an opioid overdose, administer NARCAN nasal spray, and provide essential first aid support and recovery. NARCAN is a safe, over-the-counter medication that can swiftly reverse the effects of opioids during an overdose from substances like heroin, fentanyl, or narcotic pain medications, giving you the opportunity to save lives! Participants will receive a certificate of completion and NARCAN kit at the end of the session. *A surprise gift may be raffled at the end of each session – while supplies last!*
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Understanding Michigan’s opioid crisis and the broader opioid epidemic.
- Basics of opioids and their effects on the body.
- How to identify the signs of an opioid overdose.
- Essential steps to take when responding to an opioid overdose, because every second counts.
- A hands-on demonstration on properly administering Narcan (Naloxone HCl) to empower you to save lives.
- A brief demonstration of hands-only CPR techniques, giving you the tools to help others in emergencies.
- An insightful look at Michigan laws concerning liability and good faith, ensuring you feel supported in your efforts to assist.
DETAILS
This session takes place on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025, from 11:00AM-12:00PM at Easterseals MORC, 22170 W Nine Mile Rd, Southfield, MI 48033. Participants should meet in the reception lobby of the main building at 10:55 AM. A staff member will come to guide you to the Detroit conference room in building 22150.
If you would like to attend this session, please speak with your case manager or nurse to sign up. This session is only offered in-person, space is limited, and we need to have enough kits for everyone attending, so it is important to register at least 3 business days in advance to secure your spot and complimentary NARCAN kit! The session may be canceled due to low enrollment or other factors outside of our control. If this happens, we will let you and your case manager or nurse know as soon as possible.
