SELF-DIRECTION

Easterseals MORC's Self-Directed service delivery model allows individuals served to create individualized supports based on their desires, vision and needs. Individuals and families have authority and responsibility over their budget, and decide who they would like to hire, when supports will be provided and how supports will be arranged. Services are flexible and can be customized to meet the changing needs of the individual as they learn and grow.

At Easterseals MORC, we respect your right to make the decisions that are best for you. We are committed to helping you every step of the way by sharing available resources, giving advice, and providing the necessary services to support your choices.

What are the five principles of self-determination?

Responsibility is to accept a valued role in the community through work, clubs, church or helping others. It also means using public dollars wisely, in ways that make your life better. Support is to help you lead a life full of community connectedness.

Authority is to make choices with the money you spend on the services and supports you need. Freedom is to plan a life with the services and supports that you need and want.

Confirmation is the important role that you play as your own self-advocate

How to make Self-Direction work for you:

Discuss the options with our Easterseals MORC IDD Care Coordinator or Case Manager. Think about the types of services and supports you need based on your situation and the goals you have for your life. Think about who in your life you want to help you with your services. Develop an emergency plan in case staff doesn’t show up
