It may surprise you to know that 80% of first-year college students nationwide don’t know exactly what they want to major in when they first arrive on campus. Even then, 50% of all college students will change their major at least once, so if you’re unsure, it’s okay. We don’t expect you to have it all figured out. Eastern University strives to not only guide students into their careers, but to help them discern their calling—and that takes time.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Students work closely with professional astronomers to develop and deliver presentations for local astronomical events. In addition, students have participated in research published by organizations such as the American Astronomical Society and NASA.

I was raised as a missionary kid... I have had an interest in those entangled in terrorism since 8th grade. I transferred to Eastern University because of its major in missions and anthropology. As I wrote a paper for my Missions 100 class, it was as if God was unfolding my future. This was my call: to rehabilitate women and children coming out of terrorism, and help them reintegrate into society.

• Faculty research focuses on effects of exercise on myocardial protection in a model of spontaneous hypertension, clinical education, substrate utilization during exercise, and low carbohydrate diets.

• High NCLEX-RN pass rates: Eastern’s 2018 NCLEXRN pass rate of 97% is above the average pass rate for all BSN schools in the U.S. for exams taken between Oct. 2017 and Sept. 2018. For the past 5 years, Eastern BSN students’ NCLEX-RN pass rates have been between 90% and 100% for first time candidates for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Accreditation: The program is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education, endorsed by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
• Endorsement: The Nursing Department’s PreLicensure program is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Certification Corporation.
• Simulated hands-on experience in our new (Fall 2018) Nursing Clinical Resource and Simulation Laboratory is provided to all students.

Pre-professional programs are areas of academic interest (not majors) for students who intend to enter a professional school with their bachelor’s degree after graduation from Eastern. Students must still select a major while pursuing a pre-professional program. Identifying the program will enable the student’s pre-professional advisor to provide a wide range of support to achieve the student's next step of graduate school and vocation.
Pre-Dental, Pre-Med, Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Podiatric, and Pre-Vet (Pre-Health) Tracks
Sometimes known as Pre-Health, students in these tracks are challenged to strive for academic excellence in their chosen major while cultivating a love for rigorous, scientific reasoning and a desire to be instruments of God’s healing hands. Individual advising offers students stepby-step guidance and support. Small class sizes facilitate learning and unique course offerings enable students to holistically prepare for their future medical careers.
Medical, Dental and Veterinary schools attended by recent EU graduates include (among others): Eastern Virginia Medical School, Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine, Penn State College of Medicine, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Temple University Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, and Podiatric Medicine,

Minor in Pre-Law Track
The Pre-Law minor and advising track offers an interdisciplinary introduction to law and legal institutions that emphasizes the skills necessary for success in law school, as well as graduate programs and careers in law. Law schools do not require a specific major or specific classes, but emphasize certain skills essential to success.

Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Occupational Therapy, and Pre-Athletic Training Tracks
Our pre-professional programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training provide students with a sound background in the natural and social sciences necessary for admission to graduate programs in these fields. Prerequisite courses are incorporated within the course work required of other majors, such as biology, psychology, and exercise science. This allows students to gain knowledge and skills to obtain a job related to their major in addition to pursuing graduate professional studies.
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training schools attended by recent EU graduates include (among others): Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, University of St. Augustine, Jefferson University, Hahnemann Drexel, Arcadia University, Western University, and Temple University.
The Eastern University experience is totally unique. In a constantly shifting job market, the only enduring skills are critical analysis and an ability to communicate effectively. The instruction I received at Eastern, in and out of the classroom, increased my abilities in these two areas immeasurably.
