EXPERIENCE TO G E T H E R EMU is designed with connection and community in mind. It is not a one-size-fits-all university that takes thousands of students through the same process year after year. Instead, we will work together to provide a tailored experience that puts you in charge. We take the time to get to know you and provide specific opportunities that will help you tap into your full potential. Many of these experiences will take place outside of the classroom at internships, campus events, club gatherings, athletic events, residence life dorms, and in the incredible spontaneous moments that take place every day on campus. During your time at EMU, you will begin to see new possibilities as you grow, take risks and master skills, all within an environment that supports and challenges you to become the best possible version of yourself. Together, we will accomplish great things.
IN OUR CURRENT TIMES, knowledge is readily available and any fact can be easily checked or learned online. However, the soft skills, the ones distinctly human, are very difficult to replace. EMU grads are sought-after by employers because of these qualities, in fields such as nursing, education, and beyond.

LIFE TO G E T H E R Join a broad faith community with a global impact. Here, you will learn to be rooted in who you are, to articulate your faith, and to put it into action. The EMU core values of community, service to others, sustainability, peacemaking and discipleship come from a rich Christian tradition that strengthens the EMU experience. Join students from a variety of backgrounds and places. Arrive with a common goal: To make a difference in the world by pursuing meaningful careers and living with intent. EMU graduates become unifying leaders who can clearly articulate what they believe. They are able to engage in thoughtful dialogue in an increasingly polarized society.

You are stepping into a world where the stats are discouraging. People’s actions are unpredictable, leader’s decisions are nerve-wracking. Step out. Whatever your calling may be, defend peace and justice with your actions, your interactions, and your attitude. Most especially, when issues are no longer trending, and the hashtags are no longer hashing, and the lights and cameras are off. Defend peace, defend justice, you can never go wrong. LEYMAH GBOWEE a Nobel Laureate and EMU graduate delivered these words at EMU’s commencement ceremony in 2018
D I S CO V E R TO G E T H E R Regardless of your major, you will graduate with hands-on experiences related to your field. You will also graduate with incredible life experiences through the cross-cultural component of the core curriculum, which has been required since 1982. Every semester, groups of EMU students travel near and far with a professor who has lived or worked extensively in the region. Learn history where it happened and speak a new language with those who use it every day. The world will become your classroom and you will more deeply understand your place in it. After all, the more you see, the more you are capable of seeing. You may also choose to travel while staying closer to campus at the Washington Community Scholars Center that provides both housing and classrooms. Gain life and career experiences in the heart of our nation’s capital. EMU is one of the only small liberal arts schools with an internship program in Washington, DC that is supported by DC-based faculty and a brick-and-mortar facility.
