DUAL CREDIT GUIDE

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

EKU offers high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit through concurrent enrollment. We serve over 1,000 students statewide and partner with more than 50 Kentucky high schools, prioritizing student success and college readiness.

ADMISSIONS & ENROLLMENT

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• High School Junior or Senior standing

• Sophomores admitted in special enrollment opportunities

• Unweighted High School GPA of 2.5 or Higher

• ACT Scores are not required for admission

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

1. Students will apply for admission to EKU Dual Credit using the Undergraduate Application option. Once admitted, they do not need to reapply for the following year!

a. March 1st - Fall Application Opens

b. October 1st - Spring Application Opens

2. Submit high school transcript to EKU

3. Complete the online dual credit student orientation

a. Students will receive their EKU log in credentials two days after admission.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

1. Dual Credit Advisors and High School Counselors will provide one-on-one advising to help students choose courses that align with their college and career goals.

2. Students can enroll independently through their EKU account or schedule an appointment with a Dual Credit Advisor.

3. For courses hosted onsite at your school, Dual Credit Advisors and High School Counselors collaborate using shared course rosters to register students.

ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES

WITH EKU DUAL CREDIT

Dual Credit students may register for any course they meet requirements for, including general education, majorrequired, and core-supporting courses. These are available online, at campuses in Richmond, Manchester, and Corbin, KY, or onsite at your school with your qualified faculty!

COURSES OFFERED EACH SEMESTER IN A VARIETY OF TERM LENGTHS.

• Full Term (16 weeks): Runs the entire semester.

• 1st 7-Week Term: Starts at the beginning of the semester and ends midway.

• 2nd 7-Week Term: Starts mid-semester and ends with fullterm courses.

COMMON COURSE MODALITIES

GENERAL EDUCATION

Many dual credit students enroll in general education courses, as they are required for 4-year programs and may also align with high school graduation requirements. These courses provide a foundational knowledge applicable to a wide range of degree programs and are easily transferrable.

WORK READY

Work Ready Dual Credit courses are approved by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) for the Work Ready Dual Credit Scholarship. These courses align with Career & Technical Education disciplines. EKU proudly offers over 50 Work Ready Dual Credit courses across various fields.

ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS

This flexible pathway allows students and schools to select health sciences courses aligned with their career and college goals. All options fulfill major requirements in EKU’s health sciences programs, are Work Ready-eligible, and can be paired with gen eds to maximize scholarships and degree progress. Available online, on campus, and onsite.

This four-course CTE-aligned pathway is ideal for students pursuing careers in accounting or financial services. All courses are Work Ready-eligible and can be paired with gen eds to maximize scholarships and degree progress. Available online, on campus, and onsite.

AVIATION

This four course pathway features major specific and supporting course requirements from EKU’s Bachelor of Science in Aviation programs. Each course featured in this pathway is Work Ready Dual Credit Scholarship eligible and can be paired with specific general education courses to maximize scholarship utilization and post-secondary requirement satisfaction. Online, on-campus, and onsite opportunities meet your students where they are.

• Students who successfully complete AVN 107 are prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 exam which results in the FAA Drone Pilot’s License.

• All pathway courses satisfy major and supporting program requirements for all concentrations in EKU’s Bachelor of Science in Aviation.

CORRECTIONS STUDIES

This four-course pathway fulfills major requirements for EKU’s Bachelor of Science in Corrections and prepares students for careers in rehabilitation, probation, and correctional services. All courses are Work Ready-eligible and can be paired with gen eds to maximize scholarships and degree progress. Available online, on campus, and onsite.

Emergency Med Tech (EMT) EMC 110 Emergency Med Tech (EMT)

• Successful completion of EMC 104 earns students the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.

• Successful completion of EMC 104, EMC 105, and EMC 110 qualifies students to test for and earn their EMT-Basic (EMT-B) certification through the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

• All pathway courses satisfy major specific and supporting requirements for Paramedicine and Emergency Medical Care Bachelors of Science programs.

This four-course pathway allows schools and students to choose engineering courses that align with their goals. Students can choose between P-12 and Special Education tracks in this four-semester pathway designed to prepare future educators and education leaders. NEXT STEPS

New Partners

1. Enter into a Memorandum of Agreement between your school and EKU – Provided by the EKU Dual Credit Office.

2. Set-up a new partnership orientation with the Dual Credit Office – In this virtual meeting, we will cover the admissions & enrollment processes in greater detail, orient school personnel with academic policy & procedure, and begin preparations for our unique dual credit offerings.
