The Upholstery Department produces ottomans, headboards, and beds. Instead of an assembly line process, this department relies upon an upholstery expert, who focuses on each and every item. We cut foam and fabric specifically for each product, and our tufting is all done by hand.

We at Eastern Accents are passionate about our industry, and one of our great loves is a good textile. Which is why we are so proud to be honoring a legend of the design industry. Once called “the most famous designer you’ve never heard of”, Wesley Mancini has now been creating wonderful fabrics for 30 year, and Eastern Accents will be paying tribute in our High Point showroom. So join us as we throw Mr. Mancini a cocktail party worthy of his 30 years’ contribution to the world of home décor. We caught up with the King of Textiles for a chat before market.

What are some of your design influences?

My inspirations come from everywhere. The old saying “The world is my oyster” really says it all: museums, science, nature, travel, you name it. When I travel, my favorite destinations are Malta, Turkey, and Spain, especially Barcelona, Spain and Bodrum, Turkey. Even after 30 years, I think inspiration can be found anywhere. Striving for perfection is another constant goal. With every line we get better, we learn, we evolve. This makes one season better than the previous one. Life is a constant journey and I see mine through patterns.

How do you think America wants its bedroom dressed today? What are some of your favorite color and style trends at the moment?

Today’s trends are simple and aesthetically refined, somewhat if not mostly solid, while paying attention to natural fibers and hand. In the 90’s bedding was about multilayered large scale jacquard patterns, a direct reversal to the solid bed of today. I love classic design, but I’ve never been able to say I had a favorite color. That’s like a parent saying they have a favorite child. They may favor one at a specific time and then another a different time but can never fully commit to just one.

What is your favorite Eastern Accents collection? Why is that collection your favorite?

My hat goes off to Barclay. His collection is timeless and classic, which is a perfect combination.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your home? Do you have any pieces upholstered with your own fabric?

I must admit, my favorite piece of furniture is my bed. It was custom-built with a floor-to-ceiling canopy and tufted leather headboard. It is extremely comfortable and soothing, the perfect reprieve to spend 8 hours a day in. I also have four chairs and two sofas upholstered in my own designs and upholstered walls.

What is the one thing that you cannot live without?

I’m assuming you are referring to an “object” and not my partner, Bob. I must say it is my “greenhouse”. Here bunnies, guinea pigs, finches, a tortoise and button quail, as well as an array of plants, reside. There’s nothing like repotting a plant while a finch lands nearby, Petunia (the tortoise) climbs over my foot, and Leola (the guinea pig) claims a plant leaf for herself to munch on. Its utopic!

If you could have dinner with a historical figure who would it be and why?

This is a challenging question but oddly enough, Gertrude Stein comes to mind. Besides being a lesbian, she was the central figure in the Paris art world which included Picasso and Matisse.
