November is a month of gratitude and reflection, a time to appreciate the community we’ve built and the people who enrich our lives. As autumn deepens and the holiday season approaches, November brings a unique warmth—a reminder to pause, give thanks, and recognize the moments that matter. For us at EAST COBBER, this month is all about honoring our neighbors, sharing stories of local heroes, and supporting the small businesses contributing to East Cobb’s vibrancy. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, it’s an opportunity to highlight the connections we’re grateful for, the achievements of our community, and the resilience of those who inspire us. As we flip through this issue, we hope you feel the same sense of gratitude and community that makes East Cobb a place we’re proud to call home.

RESOLUTION SEEKERS
ATTORNEY SEAN WHITWORTH HELPS COUPLES AVOID COSTLY LITIGATION AND COURT BATTLES
By Marie Muir
Getting divorced doesn’t have to be an expensive, stressful battle. Resolution Seekers Divorce Services, founded by Family Law Attorney Sean R. Whitworth, offers a compassionate, costeffective alternative to litigation—divorce mediation and counseling.
With over 15 years of experience in Georgia family law, Sean Whitworth has seen firsthand the emotional and financial toll that contentious court battles take on families. Through Resolution Seekers, he aims to provide a more peaceful way forward. “Many divorces become unduly contentious,” Whitworth says. “People are unnecessarily guided toward expensive litigation when, in reality, they can resolve their issues in a less adversarial manner.”
Using Resolution Seekers allows couples to work together to reach agreements on matters like property division, child custody, and alimony. By removing the need for two attorneys to fight it out in court, this process saves clients significant time and money. Offering individual guidance and processes such as mediation can often be completed in a few weeks, as opposed to months or years of traditional litigation, for a fraction of the cost. “Resolution Seekers is a one-stop shop where people can come together, make decisions, negotiate a settlement, use the mediation process and guidance of the office, and complete the necessary documents to finalize the process,” Whitworth explains.
The benefits extend beyond finances. This process fosters cooperation, helping families avoid the emotional trauma that typically accompanies divorce. As a neutral Sean Whitworth and his team guide both parties toward mutually satisfactory agreements, ensuring that everyone’s concerns are heard and addressed. Once a settlement is reached, Resolution Seekers helps finalize the necessary documents without requiring a contentious trial.
Located at 3225 Shallowford Road, Suite 430 in Marietta, Resolution Seekers offers both in-office and virtual services. To learn more or schedule a consultation, visit resolutionseekersdivorceservices.com or call 470-598-3516.
EAST COBB FAMILY BENEFITS
LOCAL NONPROFITS THROUGH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE SALES
By Adam Darby
The Christmas season is right around the corner with many anticipating bright and festive decorations along with the warm feelings of thankfulness and generosity that come with this time of year. But for owners Ryan and Caitlin Jones, they continue to ensure that those celebrating are enjoying the full Christmas experience. Since 2014, Peace Christmas Trees has been selling and delivering freshly grown Christmas trees each year out of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Marietta. Now celebrating their 10th anniversary, the two take pride in spreading joy while nurturing the spirit of the season for Atlanta families.
“As a Christmas tree lot owner and a Christian, the Christmas season holds a deep significance for me. It’s a time of joy, family, and togetherness, and I take immense pride in being part of that experience,” Ryan said. “Each tree I sell represents not just a product, but a living symbol of the season — something I’ve loved, tended to, and cared for long before it finds its way into a family’s home.”
Having a childhood history of growing and selling Christmas trees, Ryan wanted to continue delivering on those traditional Holiday values that were instilled in him at a young age. Growing up selling trees on his family’s tree farms, he saw firsthand the significance of what the tree means to so many people. However, when he began his career as an Atlanta Police Officer, he quickly saw a way to turn his experience harvesting trees into a way to benefit local women and children in need.
“As an Atlanta Police Officer, I worked off-duty providing security for a woman who managed a large affordable housing community…She encouraged me to sell trees in 2014 so that I could donate trees to a non-profit that she managed called ‘Operation Peace’,” Ryan said. “That first year, I sold 36 trees in Buckhead…Caitlin and I then gave 36 trees to the families of Operation Peace…For the first few years, we supported Operation Peace exclusively but grew to support nonprofits throughout the city.”
Peace Christmas Trees has experienced nothing but growth and expansion year-over-year. Ryan and Caitlin currently
have three different Christmas tree farms located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York respectively. For the past eight years, the Jones’ trees have sold out completely with a large portion of the proceeds primarily supporting affordable housing communities across Atlanta. With a growing customer base, Ryan and Caitlin assembled a whole crew of people to work with them assisting with sales and deliveries comprised of fellow first responders, family members, and friends. This year, they continue this tradition along with supporting Mt. Bethel UMC’s missions and two local battered women shelters.
“Seeing families gather around their chosen tree is incredibly fulfilling. It’s heartwarming to witness the excitement of children as they pick out the perfect tree, knowing it will be the centerpiece of their holiday celebrations,” Ryan said. “For me, Christmas is also about celebrating love, hope, and the birth of Christ…Our hope is to build long lasting relationships that allow us to share our faith. Our mission is to operate a business that allows us to serve our community with excellent service and share Christ’s love.”

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF PACK 744: “SCOUTING: YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW”
On October 6th, Cub Scout Pack 744 of Marietta celebrated its 50th anniversary of their founding at McFarlane Park, marking five decades of building young leaders and fostering a sense of adventure. Chartered by Eastside Elementary since its inception, Pack 744 has been a cornerstone of the community, with hundreds of Scouts and families impacted over the years.
Cub Scouting is part of the Scouting program of Scouting America, formerly known as Boy Scouts of America, available to youth from kindergarten through fifth grade, 5 to 10 years of age, and their families. In Cub Scouts, youth are encouraged to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge.
The anniversary event welcomed eight former Cubmasters, including Mark Roberts (2022-2024), David Linsey (2020-2022), Chris Ray (2016-2019), Hilary Thornton (2014-2016), John LaVoy (2013-2014), Steve Kleinrichert (2009-2010), Scott Lovell (2008), and Zett Quinn (2005-2007), who shared memories of their time leading the Pack. Each Cubmaster reflected on the adventures, challenges, and camaraderie that shaped Pack 744 and guided it to success. Former Committee Chairs, Den Leaders, and scout alumni also attended. Cubmaster James Stovall, who is now coming through the Pack for a second time with his youngest son Luke, expressed his gratitude to these former leaders and shared his excitement for the Pack’s future.
The Pack’s vision—”We want to be the most fun and adventurous pack in Georgia, preparing our Scouts for both Scouting and life”—is evident in their activities. In the past year, Scouts have explored Cumberland Caverns spending overnight in a cave in Tennessee, rafted the Nantahala River in North Carolina, and are preparing for a mountain biking event at Blankets Creek in Cobb County. With over 100 participants registered for
SpookyRee, an upcoming camping weekend at Bert Adams Scout Camp in Covington, the Pack is as adventurous as ever.
State Senator Kay Kirkpatrick, representing Georgia’s 32nd District, was also in attendance. A dedicated supporter of Scouting, Senator Kirkpatrick praised the Pack’s enduring commitment to service and community. She and her husband, both lonhg-time Scout supporters, recently hosted Scout Day at the Capitol, in which Pack 744 proudly participated.
The anniversary’s theme, “Scouting: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow,” captured the essence of Pack 744’s legacy. With 63 families, including 26 new families in the last six months, the Pack continues to grow and thrive. Much like other organizations, Pack 744 faced a dip in participation during the COVID era, but today, it is rebuilding with energy. The pack continues to recruit more youth than are graduating out each year, signaling a bright and adventurous future ahead.
A significant highlight of the celebration was the international food tasting, where each Scout family made a dish to represent their cultural heritage. This showcased the Pack’s rich diversity, with dishes such as Southern smoked barbecue sliders, japchae (a Korean favorite of sweet potato noodles with meat and vegetables), Chinese dumplings, Russian angel wings pastry, crepes with beef, French apple tart, Dutch oven apple cobbler, and much more. The food offered a flavorful glimpse into the Pack’s international makeup and symbolized the spirit of unity within diversity that Scouting fosters.
While much has changed since Pack 744’s founding in 1974 the values of Scouting remain constant. For 50 years, Pack 744 has instilled leadership, responsibility, and a love for adventure in young Scouts, preparing them for life and making a lasting impact on the community.
AWith a focus on adventure, service, and fun, Pack 744 is ready to continue its journey for another 50 years, growing stronger and carrying on the scouting legacy each step of the way.

MT. PARAN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL EARNS THE AP GOLD AWARD
Mount Paran Christian School is proud to announce a 91 percent pass rate among the 398 AP exams taken by high school students last spring. A total of 81 MPCS students and recent graduates also earned Advanced Placement Scholar Awards for 2024, in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams. In total, 91 percent of MPCS students passed with a score of 3 or greater on at least one exam. This is the highest achievement thus far for MPCS students and teachers who have demonstrated a trend of 81 percent passing rates or greater in the last five years.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically-prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both, for successful performance on the AP Exams taken in May.
Traditionally, about 20 percent of approximately two million students worldwide who take AP Exams perform at a sufficiently high level to earn an AP Scholar Award. The 91 percent pass rate is a record year for Mount Paran Christian School students and faculty. MPCS faculty and high school AP students continue to impress with a fiveyear history of exam success. Consistently scoring above 80 percent on exams, many of these students begin college with abundant core course credits. These high AP exam score exemptions applied by most universities enable our alumni to explore additional academic pursuits, second majors, masters degree programs, or early graduation. Notably, seven subjects at MPCS had 100
percent pass rates including AP Human Geography, AP Spanish Language, AP Environmental Science, AP US History, AP 2D Art, AP 3D Art, and AP Drawing. Special congratulations to the MPCS high school teachers who teach those courses: Kelly Tarver, David Fitzpatrick, Richard Searle, Martha Troutman, and Sandy Hamilton. MPCS was once again named to the 2024 AP School Gold Honor Roll, which recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening access for students. Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on their ability to increase their school’s college-going culture, to provide opportunities for students to earn college credit, and by maximizing college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Mount Paran Christian School had 188 seniors who took a total of 398 AP exams, with 91% scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam! MPCS also qualified for platinum status for college credit and optimization from the College Board. Additionally, Mount Paran Christian School was recognized with the AP Access Award for providing all students the opportunity to participate in AP, including students of underrepresented populations. Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. The students who enter four-year colleges with AP credits accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success. And, even for those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.
MPCS high school students who were named AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honor, or AP Scholars with Distinction.

EAST COBB ARTIST PRESENTS A HOLIDAY ART SHOW
Lynne McDonald, an abstract artist and entrepreneur, presents a Holiday Art Show, Smoke & Mirrors at Serendipity Labs (3225 Cumberland Blvd., Suite 100, Atlanta), November 13, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Lynne has been the featured artist at Serendipidy for nearly three years. This Holiday Show will be the unveiling of Lynne’s beautiful new pieces. Guests are invited to enjoy lite bites and drinks.
“Art is subjective. When someone connects with my work and it stirs their soul, I consider that a success,” Lynne explains. “I pour large pieces; I prefer the impact of a large statement piece.”
Participating in events like Summerfest and collaborating with interior designers, Lynne has sold over 400 paintings. Lynne felt the calling to paint later in life. She followed her heart and reinvented herself into a fulltime artist inspiring us all to realize it’s never too late. She developed a following and has sold pieces all over the world, from Georgia to Greece to Dubai. As a juried
artist, she’s been able to have over 15 shows in her short career; 13 of which have been solo. She’s had her work published in numerous magazines, won awards, and has been on countless podcasts and radio shows to encourage everyone to live life on their terms and never give up on their dreams.
“I hope my work inspires others to embrace life. You are the designer of your life,” Lynne says.

SNUGGLES WITH A GRAY MUZZLE
By Kris Hale of Best in Dog
You and your once energetic pup survived adolescence and settled into a comfortable routine. The last few years have flown by. You recently noticed your best furry friend’s muzzle turning gray, the walks are slowly down, and your dog needs a boost to get in the car. You have a senior dog.
I understand. I am a dog mom to three seniors; Dezra is approximately 12, Hank is close to 11, and Joanie is about 9 years old.
Here are ways we can help our seniors live their best life and enjoy their golden years to the fullest.
1. Regularly examine your dog for physical changes. Look at their eyes, nose, ears, and teeth. Smell their breath and ears. Examine their body and legs. Watch for any changes in their gait. Communicate any changes with your vet.
2. For better traction, keep their nails and the hair on their feet trimmed. Use no-slip rugs for slick floors. Limit going up and down stairs.
3. Make sure they are comfortable when sleeping by providing at least a couple of orthopedic beds for them to choose from.
4. Provide opportunities for enrichment. While our senior dogs may not be able to do the physical activities they once did, enrichment and engaging in activities is still important and enjoyable. Try shorter walks with lots of sniffing. Give them opportunities to lick, forage, and search.
5. Keep them active at a level that is comfortable and safe for your dog. Try some modified dog parkour or fitness activities geared specifically for seniors. Teach them something new, as that’s good for cognition, too.
6. Regular vet visits remain important, including a wellness examine every six months. If you notice a sudden change in behavior, signs of pain, or cognitive decline connect with your vet immediately.
7. Signs of pain may include: no longer eating, lethargy, decreased social interactions, doesn’t like to be touched any more, anxiety, growling and aggression.
8. Signs of cognitive decline may include: decreased social interactions, disorientation, changes in the sleep/wake cycle, pacing, difficulty learning new things, and anxiety.
Embrace the slower pace of life with your senior dog. Enjoy the snuggles and the quiet evenings.
There is nothing quite like the love of a senior dog. If you are interested in adopting a senior, check your local shelter or rescue. Some, like Lifeline Animal Project, may offer a discount for adopting a senior pet.

SPARKLE SUCCESS STORY
By Ginger Markert-Brusa
Joan Rockwell joined Sparkle Wellness in January 2020 and reached her goal weight in June 2020. Read Joan’s story of overcoming four knee replacements and losing 35 pounds.
I am 78, and I have lived in Marietta since 1981. I was married for 48 years, and I have two great kids, Corey and Sara Ann, and five grandchildren.
I taught elementary health and physical education in Marietta City Schools for 26 years. After retiring, I continued to substitute teach, volunteered at the ELM program for seniors teaching painting, and currently volunteer at Len Foote Hike Inn each month.
My hobbies are painting, gardening, and hiking. Before my four knee replacements, over a span of 14 years, I was a runner and completed two marathons in one year. Hiking about six miles a day and walking six to seven times a week is my “therapy,” and I hope to complete about 2,700 miles this year.
I discovered Jacynta at her previous job with Weight Watchers and followed her wherever she conducted meetings, even when it was on the other side of the county. When I heard she had started Sparkle, I joined. In the past five years, with her guidance, I have discovered the best path for lasting results. In the past, I focused on low-calorie foods, but I still ate junk food with a lot of sugar and artificial ingredients. With the leadership, daily motivation, and support from Jacynta and the wonderful Sparkle community, success was possible! Using the suggested books and resources, reading nutrition labels, eliminating processed foods and sugar, and tracking food all add up to a healthy result. I never knew how important protein intake and strength training were before being in Sparkle. I also realized Sparkle is a way of life for total wellness, not just weight loss.
As a cancer survivor of non-Hodgkins lymphoma for the past 21 years, I feel physical activity and healthy choices have contributed to never needing any treatment or having further symptoms.
One of the struggles on this journey has been learning to cook for just one since I have been a widow.
Maintenance is another big challenge. It is easy to lose focus, but when I feel myself slipping, I get back to the basics and consistency that work.
My top three tips:
1. Move daily. “Motion is lotion,” especially for older joints.
2. Track your food so you know what and how much is going into your body.
3. Do not “throw in the towel” after making bad choices. Rely on and accept the support of others in the group.
I feel blessed that I can be as active as I am and feel this good at 78. I’m looking forward to attempting a half marathon in November. I give Jacynta and Sparkle credit for getting me to this point in my life!
For more information on Sparkle Wellness, visit www.sparkleanewyou.com or call Jacynta Harb at 404-242-5062.

BASICS NATURE TRAIL GRAND OPENING CELEBRATES COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
The Basics Cobb County and the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center (ELC) announce The Basics Nature Trail in Henry Park to promote early childhood development.
The Basics Nature Trail is a collaborative effort between The Basics Cobb County, the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center, and The City of Marietta. This environmental project is designed to promote early childhood development through the five core principles of The Basics:
● Maximize Love, Manage Stress
● Count, Group and Compare
● Talk, Sing and Point
● Explore through Movement and play
● Read and Discuss Stories
The trail features five interactive signs strategically placed throughout Henry Memoria Park, each dedicated to a different principle. They include questions, nature activities, and ideas to guide families through an enriching learning experience, fostering connection and growth. Research from The Harvard University Center on the Developing Child emphasizes that early childhood development is crucial for cognitive, emotional, and social growth. The cognitive-linguistic capacities that emerge in the early years lay a foundation for success in school, work, and the community.
SAY GOODBYE TO JAW PAIN
Did you know that jaw pain can sneak up on you, turning everyday tasks into challenges? As November rolls in, it’s not just the changing leaves we should focus on—it’s TMJ Awareness Month! For many, the discomfort of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) goes unrecognized until it becomes hard to ignore.
Imagine this: you wake up with a throbbing headache, your jaw feels tight, and even a simple smile causes discomfort. TMD can cause pain not just in your jaw, but also in your head and neck, making daily life a struggle. So, what triggers this pesky problem? Stress, teeth grinding (also known as bruxism), misaligned teeth, and even arthritis can all play a role. But here’s the silver lining: there are effective treatments available to help you reclaim your comfort!
One of the most effective options is occlusal splint therapy. These custom-made mouthguards fit snugly over your teeth, helping to realign your jaw and relieve pressure on the TMJ. Imagine slipping on a comfortable splint at night and waking up feeling refreshed, free from tension and discomfort!
For those battling persistent pain, Botox has emerged as a game-changer. While often associated with beauty treatments, Botox can provide much-needed relief by relaxing the jaw muscles. It’s a quick, minimally invasive procedure that can significantly improve your quality of life.
And let’s not forget about Invisalign! It’s not just about achieving that perfect smile; it can also address bite issues that contribute to TMD. By
gently repositioning your teeth, Invisalign reduces stress on the jaw joint, helping you feel more comfortable in your own skin.
This November, let’s shine a light on TMD and its impact on daily life. If you’re struggling with jaw pain or discomfort, our caring team at Cheek Dental is here for you. Don’t let TMJ pain hold you back—there’s a world of relief waiting for you! Here’s to healthy jaws and happy smiles! Let’s take the first step together toward a pain-free life.

FROM CORPORATE TO CANVAS: AN EAST COBBER’S JOURNEY FROM MARKETING EXECUTIVE TO AWARD-WINNING ARTIST
When she graduated from the Harvard Business School 40 years ago, Pat Fiorello had no idea she’s become a professional artist, teaching painting workshops around the world, but that’s exactly where her path has taken her over the past 20 years. Back then she didn’t even know how to paint, so that didn’t even cross her mind as a possibility.
By her early 40’s, Fiorello had achieved career success attaining positions of Vice President of Marketing for two major companies, Nabisco Brands and later Coca- Cola, right here in Atlanta, but something was still lacking. After much soul searching, she invented a purpose for her life- “to create a world of beauty, love and inspiration.” That has been her true north for over 20 years. Acknowledging that her first career was not aligned with this personal mission, Fiorello made the bold move to leave the corporate world and venture out on her own, pursuing life as a full-time artist. “It was a difficult decision, but I didn’t want to continue the path I was on and look back and wonder, “What if I?” Since then, Pat’s been leading a life driven by passion and purpose. She paints, teaches painting locally and has led over 20 international painting trips to beautiful destinations including Italy, France, Spain and New Zealand. She’s also authored a book, “Bella Italia, Italy Through the Eyes of an Artist”. This year Pat’s artwork was awarded “Best Oil Painting” at the Plein Air Salon, a yearlong competition that included nearly 11,000 paintings submitted by 3000 artists across 73 countries.
“Receiving the award was really coming full circle from learning to paint as an adult to developing myself and becoming a teacher. To me, the significance of it was not so much the award itself, but the message to people that if you want to do something, even if it may be off track from what you were originally trained to do, you can do it. It took hard work, studying, practice, and commitment, but persistence over time really makes anything possible.”
“I’m clear that my mission is to create and share beauty, love and inspiration. I am gratified to be able to use my talents to uplift people.”
Pat’s work can be found on-line at www.patfiorello.com, on Facebook, Instagram and DailyPaintworks.com and locally at Frameworks Gallery on Johnson Ferry Road in East Cobb, which has represented her work for nearly 20 years.
Pat Fiorello
It’s such a basic question, but one that most businesses struggle to answer … much less communicate clearly. But in today’s age of endless marketing messages competing for a very short attention span, clearly communicating your “story” is an absolute imperative. Articulating and embracing your brand story is what makes it happen.
