IRON TRIBE EAST COBB MORE THAN A GYM— A COMMUNITY THAT CHANGES LIVES How two East Cobb natives are helping neighbors become healthier, stronger and more connected. For Kinsee and Jason Crew, East Cobb has never simply been where they live—it’s where their story began. High school sweethearts at Lassiter High School, the Crews grew up in East Cobb and have built a life in the community they proudly call home. Today, they’re raising their family here, with one son attending Auburn University after graduating from Johnson Ferry Christian Academy and another entering his sophomore year at JFCA. They’ve also been longtime members of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. “East Cobb has invested in us throughout our lives,” says Kinsee. “Owning Iron Tribe East Cobb gives us the opportunity to invest back into the community that has given our family so much.” When Iron Tribe East Cobb opened in 2014, Jason and his partners envisioned a place where people could improve their health while finding accountability, encouragement, and meaningful relationships. This vision still guides everything they do.
A NEW SEASON OF LEADERSHIP
This year marks a new chapter as Kinsee has stepped into the role of day-today operator. After 20 years as a stay-at-home mom raising their two sons, she says this is the right season to become more involved in the business she has co-owned since the beginning. “I love building organizations, developing teams, and creating places where people feel known, valued, and encouraged,” she says. “That fits naturally with what Iron Tribe has always meant to our family.”
A GYM BUILT AROUND PEOPLE
Walk through the doors of Iron Tribe East Cobb and you’ll quickly notice a genuine community. “We have a special community that supports each other through so much encouragement,” says Kinsee. “Great people are simply doing life together.” Jason agrees. “That deep-rooted community has created its own culture
of accountability, which leads to real life change.” Like many small businesses, Iron Tribe faced difficult decisions during COVID-19. Protecting the community they had built remained the priority. “For many of our members, Iron Tribe wasn’t just where they exercised,” Kinsee explains. “It was their routine, their friendships — the place where they felt connected.”

Coaches provide instruction, modifications, and monitor technique to reduce injury risk. ENCOURAGEMENT BEYOND THE WORKOUT The coaches say the most rewarding moments often happen beyond the workout itself.
Coach Sara recalls celebrating with a member who regained the ability to perform pull-ups after years of being unable to do them. “It’s exciting to watch members motivate each other,” she says. “People share recipes, celebrate milestones, and want to see one another succeed.” Coach Leslie enjoys seeing members encourage each another during partner workouts, celebrating personal records, and returning after an injury. As part of Iron Tribe’s giving back mission, the gym proudly sponsors the
annual Polar Bear Run and regularly opens its doors to Johnson Ferry athletic teams. For Jason and Kinsee, supporting East Cobb isn’t simply good business—it’s a way of giving back to the community that shaped their lives. “We believe fitness can be a catalyst for something much bigger,” says Kinsee. “Our mission is to help people become healthier, stronger, and more connected so they can live fuller lives.” After more than twelve years serving East Cobb, that mission remains unchanged. KNOW THE RULES BEFORE YOU RIDE: GEORGIA E-BIKE LAWS EXPLAINED
lectric bicycles are becoming an increasingly popular way to commute and enjoy the outdoors. In Georgia, e-bikes are generally treated like traditional bicycles, meaning riders must obey all traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs and red lights, riding with traffic, and using hand signals when turning. Georgia recognizes three classes of e-bikes based on how the motor assists the rider and the bike’s maximum assisted speed. While no driver’s license or insurance is required to operate an e-bike, Class III e-bikes have additional requirements: • Riders must be at least 15 years old.

• A helmet is required for all riders and passengers. • The bike must be equipped with a speedometer.

COBB SCHOOLS MAKE HISTORY, RAISING $1 MILLION FOR THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

uring the 2025-26 school year, Cobb County School District became the first in the nation to raise $1 Million for the American Heart Association through the Kids Heart Challenge (Elementary schools) and American Heart Challenge (Middle and High schools)! This is also the fifth consecutive year the District has raised the most funds in the country, earning the #1 spot! The historic accomplishment reflects more than four decades of partnership between Cobb Schools and the American Heart Association, during which students have supported hearthealth education, life-saving research, public-health initiatives, and outreach programs while learning the importance of healthy lifestyles and service to others. The Award of Excellence includes a $200 Young Artist Scholarship, Silver Medal, Certificate of Excellence, and their work will be featured in the National PTA Reflections virtual exhibition. To be awarded the National PTA Award of Excellence, the piece must be one of the 3 or 4 top-scoring entries for its division/arts category in the nation! School winners moved to the ECCC PTA round. Georgia PTA then judged the artwork by division, each of which encompass multiple grade levels, making these recognitions extremely selective. The first place winners advanced to the National PTA Reflections competition. Congratulations to Riya, Shreya and Amulya on this incredible accomplishment!

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K-12 create original works of art in response to a student-created theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

ART INSTALLATION ON NOONDAY CREEK TRAIL DOUBLES AS A SAFE HAVEN FOR BIRDS
V
isitors strolling along the Noonday Creek Trail may notice a colorful, 12-foot-tall structure that resembles a chimney. While it doubles as a piece of public art, the Chimney Swift Tower serves an important purpose by providing a safe place for migratory birds to nest and roost. Installed in 2020 through a partnership between Town Center Community and Birds Georgia (formerly Georgia Audubon), the tower was designed specifically for chimney swifts. The near-threatened species of migratory birds travel from South America to Georgia each spring. These birds historically nest in hollow trees. But as development has reduced those natural spaces and homeowners increasingly cap their chimneys, suitable nesting sites have become harder to find. The tower, designed by Birds Georgia and hand-painted by Atlanta-based muralist Christina Ward, mimics the birds’ natural habitat and provides a crucial place to raise their young and rest. Chimney swifts also serve as the trail’s natural pest control, eating up to 1,000 mosquito-sized insects each day. If you visit the trail in late summer or early fall, keep an eye on the tower around dusk. Large flocks of chimney swifts may gather overhead before funneling into the structure for the night in a spectacular display that resembles smoke drifting into a chimney. For bird watchers, the Noonday Creek Trail offers no shortage of avian sightings. More than 157 bird species have been documented along the trail, making it a destination for both casual observers and dedicated enthusiasts. TRENDING IN BOOK CLUBS “THE COVER LADIES” By Aileen Swartz
H
ere’s a surprising trend— not all book clubs take a summer break! Interviewing such a variety of local groups has shown me that these clubs develop their own unique cultures, traditions and routines. This month, I had the pleasure of talking with Jenn from The Cover Ladies book club. This cleverly named club began three years ago. While all of the members currently live in the same neighborhood, Jenn quickly points out that “living in this subdivision isn’t an actual requirement.” “We intentionally keep it small, just six to eight members,” Jenn says. Their fearless leader, Grace, started the club. The members genuinely enjoy each other’s company, so sometimes it’s tough to get around to discussing the book because we’re busy catching up on life. One of the club’s favorite traditions is drawing discussion questions at random from a bowl, creating lively and often unexpected conversations.
Jenn offers this advice to other book clubs: “The group stays organized using the Book Club by BookMovement app. The upcoming hostess selects the book, and members have 48 hours to agree on a meeting date and time through the app. It also tracks books they’ve read, offers recommendations, and provides ratings.”
The Cover Ladies enjoy historical fiction, stories featuring strong women, and plenty of thrillers to spark conversation. In fact, Jenn recently selected a beach thriller, Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman and embraced the theme by serving a tropical charcuterie board inspired by the novel’s Bora Bora island setting. Other recent favorites include The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Allison Pataki, In Pieces - Sally Field’s Memoir, and Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. The friendships extend well beyond monthly meetings. The club recently planned a field trip to Columbus, Georgia, to see the paintings featured in Theo of Golden. They celebrate Christmas with a restaurant gift exchange, host Fourth of July gatherings where spouses are welcome, and enjoy evening neighborhood walks together. Their diverse membership includes teachers, a nurse, businesswomen, a stay-at-home mom, a gardener and artist, and an animal rescue volunteer. Like the books they read, their varied perspectives and genuine friendships make every meeting memorable.
Hosting continues to evolve over the years. Today, each hostess prepares dinner for the group, a tradition that grew naturally as members wanted to give something personal back to the club. Occasionally, someone brings a hostess gift, but it’s never expected.

EAST COBBER PARADE & FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR ITS 28TH YEAR
O
ne of East Cobb’s favorite traditions is back! The 28th Annual EAST COBBER Parade & Festival returns on Saturday, October 3, bringing together thousands of residents for a day of community spirit, hometown pride, and family fun. The celebration begins at 10am with the EAST COBBER Parade. The one-mile route starts in front of the Princeton Lakes subdivision (1223 Johnson Ferry Road), travels south along Johnson Ferry Road, and ends on Olde Towne Parkway. Spectators can expect a festive lineup of high school marching bands, community organizations, local businesses, scout troops, athletic teams, colorful floats, classic vehicles, and plenty of surprises along the way.

Known by many as East Cobb’s “candy parade,” one of the biggest highlights is the candy tossed by parade participants. Children of all ages line the streets with bags in hand, hoping to collect as many sweet treats as possible while waving to their favorite parade entries. When the parade concludes, the fun continues just down the road at the EAST COBBER Festival, beginning around 11am in the north parking lot of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church (955 Johnson Ferry Road). The festival features live entertainment, family activities, carnival games, local vendors, community organizations, and a delicious selection of food from East Cobb restaurants and food trucks.

SPARKLE SUCCESS STORY

ome of you may know Kim Snyder, Assistant Band Director at Lassiter High School. Kim joined Sparkle in summer of 2025. Read on to hear how Kim began her weight loss journey with Sparkle Wellness. I found Sparkle through my friend and former band parent, Heather. By the summer of 2025, I had essentially given up on my health. Nothing I tried was working, and things were progressively getting worse. By October of 2025, I had hit rock bottom. I was floundering, and none of my old ways of eating or exercise were making a difference. Throughout all of this, I noticed Heather. She was fit, strong and always had healthy snacks and meals packed. I finally built up the courage to ask her what she was doing, and she told me about Jacynta and Sparkle. After we talked, I reached out to Jacynta to set up a call. Her energy was so infectious. I knew instantly I needed her in my corner! My eating habits have completely shifted toward preparation and consistency. I now make sure to get at least 120g of protein every day and focus on staying well-hydrated. Instead of completely removing entire food groups, my focus has been on moderation and mindfulness. I discovered my portion sizes were completely out of control, and I constantly felt hungry because I was not eating nearly enough protein. I would quickly burn through the junk food I was eating, which just left me crashing and craving more. Shifting the focus to protein was eye-opening for changing that cycle. I dedicate five days a week to strength training and three days to walking, making sure to take one or two rest days. I wake up at 5:00 AM to exercise at home before work, and it has been the absolute best routine for me! Moving my body early in the morning keeps me much calmer throughout the day. I truly believe there is always something we can do to stay active, no matter what. The at-home live or recorded Sparkle Fitness workouts are the best thing ever! What keeps me going is a strict focus on consistency over perfection. Instead of letting a busy schedule or an off day derail me, I rely on a mindset of gratitude and resilience. Remembering I get to move my body and fuel it well changes my entire perspective, allowing me to push through the frustrations and keep moving forward.

My biggest challenge today is still tracking, something I must actively work on every single day. When I do not have a solid plan in place, it becomes way too easy to just default to a drive thru. Some days are better than others, but I get more than 50% of my days a week tracked. PAULA FIDLER IS 100 YEARS OLD ON OUR NATION’S 250TH YEAR BIRTHDAY By Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K member John Kone
K
iwanis club of Marietta Golden K member Paula Fidler turned 100 years old on this our nation’s 250th year birthday. On July 16th in lieu of the regular meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K held a birthday party celebration to honor Paula. The program agenda summed up how the party unfolded as the opening read, “Kiwanis Celebrate - Paula Tate Fidler is 100!!! … July 11h , 1926 – July 11th , 2026 …one hundred years of living and loving”. In addition to Kiwanis Club members, several of Paula’s family were in attendance. Paula is an amazing person and has a colorful background. Some of Paula’s history is as follows: After the Second World War, while working at Wright Patterson Airfield, she met and married Paul Fidler. They were married for 49 years before his tragic death in 1995. As a military wife, she and Paul traveled all over the wold living in such countries as Austuria, Germany, Japan and South Korea. State side travels included states of North Carolina, California and Georgia. Wherever they lived, Paula found places to volunteer her services. Among some of the activities were visits to orphanges in South Korea, and volunteering at the Red Cross Woman’s Thrift Shop. In 1969, she was selected as Fort Leonard Woods Military Wife of the year. After her husband passed away, she kept busy spending time with her 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren by going out on the lake, climbing Kennesaw Mountain and at the tender age of 92 went ZIP lining.
In 2021, she was interviewed by Kennesaw State University and became part of their legacy series whereby students could hear about her life growing up during the depression and her World War II experiences.
