Fall 2011

Shawnee attorney Terry W. West, a graduate of Francis High School who attended East Central University in 1956 and 1957, addressed candidates for bachelor’s and master’s degrees during fall Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 10.

Kerr Activities Center hosted 217 candidates for bachelor’s degrees and 92 candidates for master’s degrees.

West transferred from ECU to the University of Oklahoma where he completed an undergraduate degree in 1961. He earned a law degree in 1966 from the University of Tulsa Law School.

West is the founder of The West Law Firm in Shawnee where he has practiced for many years. He has worked with numerous community services in the Shawnee area, including serving on the board of the Boy Scouts of America, working with the Salvation Army’s board and annually providing food for the Shawnee area Thanksgiving Dinner.

He and his son, Brad, also have been very instrumental in providing coats for youngsters in the area through the Salvation Army.

In addition to working with his son Brad, West works with his other son, Bart, a legal assistant in the law firm. He has two daughters, Sabrina West of Shawnee and Bridget West of Orlando, Fla., and three grandchildren.

Spring 2012

To recognize David Porter’s(‘87) professional and personal success, ECU honored him as the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus during commencement ceremonies on May 12. He addressed spring and summer graduates and their families at both the 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ceremonies in the Kerr Activities Center.

ECU had 680 degree candidates who completed degree requirements during the spring or summer. There were 498 candidates for bachelor’s degrees and 182 candidates for master’s degrees.
