Message from the EARCOS Board President & Executive Director James Dalziel

President NIST International School

Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the EARCOS Board of Trustees, welcome to the EARCOS Leadership Conference. Whether this is your first ELC or your fifteenth, we are delighted you are here. As you look at the faces opposite, you will notice something about our Board: almost all of us are heads of school and senior leaders. Our working days are spent leading, managing, solving problems, and making decisions. When we gather as a Board, however, we deliberately step into a different role. We pivot from management to governance, focusing on strategy, stewardship, the long-term health of the organization, and trusting our Executive Director and his exceptional team to lead the work. That shift is not always easy, which is exactly why it matters. We believe the EARCOS Board should not simply talk about effective governance but become and demonstrate the governance we hope to see in each of our member schools: clear about roles, disciplined in focus, generous in trust, and unwavering about mission. This year’s theme, Schools of Hope, could not be more timely. Now, more than ever, education needs optimism. Our schools are navigating rapid technological change and global uncertainty, and our communities look to us for steadiness and belief. Yet we also know that hope is not a strategy. It is a catalyst: a signal of what we believe our schools can become, and the fuel that turns intention into action. That is the work EARCOS exists to support: connecting our communities, investing in our people so that learning improves for every child, and helping our region lead, innovate, and pursue excellence together. Every strategic plan, every difficult conversation, and every investment in a colleague is hope put to work, and the people doing that work are in this room. Please connect generously, learn boldly, and take time to reflect. Thank you for all you do for the young people of our region. Warmest regards,

James Dalziel President, Head of School NIST International School

Edward E. Greene, Ph.D Executive Director

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2026 EARCOS Leadership Conference. The expertise, energy, enthusiasm, and experience gathered here is nothing short of remarkable. We are truly fortunate to welcome three dynamic keynote speakers: Nicole Furlonge, Director of the Klingenstein Center of Columbia University, author and renowned speaker, Katie Novak of Novak Education, and Eric Sheninger, an internationally recognized school leader, author, and change agent. Also, a heartfelt welcome to our 40 dynamic guest presenters—the largest and strongest cohort we have ever had at an ELC. And, an especially warm welcome to the heart and soul of every EARCOS conference—the 145 leaders from our region’s schools who have come to Bangkok to share stories and insights about their challenges and innovations, their dreams and their hopes. It is a genuine pleasure, too, to welcome the more than 100 associate members--companies and organizations—that have joined us. Please find time to visit with our exhibitors and sponsors and learn what they can offer to your school’s students and programs. Our theme is Schools of Hope. What is a school, after all, if not a beacon of hope, lighting a path to tomorrow? All of us gathered here share a vision of and a commitment to the creation of a better world. Our work targets a world beyond the horizon, a world we can neither fully predict nor comprehend. And yet, day in and day out, we walk into our schools, eager to engage with the young people whose futures will be anchored to that world. Students today are bombarded with information and events that none of us had to contend with when we were their age. Theirs is a generation whose realities and challenges are unlike—and more disconcerting than-any generation that has come before them. It is our solemn responsibility to prepare them for a world in which the only certainty will be change. Now more than ever, schools must focus on far more than traditional skills and knowledge. We must extend our reach for what Costa and Kallick called the Habits of Mind, the mindsets required to face tomorrow with confidence, persistence, understanding, empathy, and hope. I believe that this year’s conference, and our focus on hope, will inspire each of you to redouble your efforts to empower tomorrow’s leaders and citizens of this challenged planet. Tomorrow, with its promises and uncertainties, is in your hands. Hope will surely light the way. Enjoy and savor these few short but intensive days together, and thank you for being here. Welcome to ELC 2026!

Edward E. Greene, Ph.D. Executive Director

Driving Coherence and Compassion with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Schools are not lacking initiatives; they’re overwhelmed by them. The real challenge isn’t starting something new, but making everything work together to actually improve outcomes for all learners. In this keynote, Dr. Katie Novak reframes multi-tiered systems of support as an engine that brings coherence to the work, not as another initiative, but as the structure that aligns and strengthens what already exists. (read more on Whova App)
