Dear EARCOS Community,
Welcome to the 2025 EARCOS Leadership Conference! Thank you for joining us!

This year’s theme, “Future–Visible,” reminds us that the future isn’t something far away - it’s something we can imagine, shape, and bring within reach. A “visible future” is one we see clearly, act on with purpose, and invite others to help create. As educators and leaders, we continually look ahead. We help students imagine what’s possible. We design learning that prepares them for change. We build schools that respond to an evolving world. But to lead wisely, we need more than vision - we must bring our ideas into focus, test them, refine them, and ground them in strong values and hope.
This conference will become a space where EARCOS leaders can envision and shape the future together. As we engage in sessions and conversations, I hope that each of us feels inspired, intentional, and courageous - more open to the possibilities ahead.
I would like to express our deepest appreciation to our Director, Ed Greene, and the exceptional EARCOS staff for their extraordinary work in preparing this event. Their dedication has ensured that this will be a powerful and memorable experience for us all. I also extend heartfelt thanks to our sponsors for their generous support, as well as to the EARCOS Board members, who continue to provide invaluable strategic guidance and tireless service in shaping the future of our organization.
Finally, let us extend our recognition and thanks to the many members and friends of EARCOS who have prepared thought-provoking presentations and keynote speeches. Their contributions will undoubtedly enrich us all, both professionally and personally. As we begin our time together, let’s approach these days with purpose and curiosity. Let’s ask bold questions, share ideas freely, and meet challenges with honesty and courage.
Together, let’s make visible the futures we hope for - futures filled with possibility, connection, and hope.
Wishing you an inspiring and energizing conference,

Dr. Catriona Moran President, EARCOS Board of Trustees
I am so very happy to welcome you to the 2025 EARCOS Leadership Conference. Thank you for carving out time from your always busy schedules to come together for what promises to be an exciting four days of learning, sharing, and camaraderie.

Our theme, Future–Visible, embraces a host of phenomena impacting all of us. As educators, we live and breathe hope for tomorrow. As the IB mission statement has said so well for so many years, as international educators we strive to create a better and more peaceful world. And yet, we are bequeathing a severely imperiled world to the next generation. Just what will that future world bring? What do schools need to do—and what are they already doing--to prepare tomorrow’s global citizens and leaders for that future?
So many at this conference have tremendous stories to share about the school communities they are building, places where young people gain the tools, insights and understanding that are so essential to moving with real hope and resolve into tomorrow. Over the next several days we will help one another see how our schools are transforming themselves to prepare students for a future as rich with opportunities as it is rife with challenges.
I want to thank our presenters and keynote speakers for engaging us, once again, in frank conversations and deep learning together. Please join me in especially thanking the members of the PLACE committee who have helped us build over 200 sessions on so many dimensions of leadership for today and tomorrow.
Each year, the ELC takes more time to prepare than any of us would care to admit! Thank you to the EARCOS team who do so much to ensure that everything comes together—and on time! As always, we appreciate the partnership we enjoy with the Shangri-la and the Thailand Conference and Exhibition Bureau.
Please do remember to make time to visit our exhibitors. They have important materials and programs to share with you and have traveled far to do so. I especially want to thank the Office of Overseas Schools, particularly Mark Ulfers and Andrew Hoover, for their generous support of this conference—and so many EARCOS events each year. And a very special thank you to our major sponsors who have supported our keynote speakers, receptions, coffee breaks and the very special Richard T. Krajczar Humanitarian Award session.
Finally, this conference would not be possible without the vision and support of the EARCOS Board of Trustees. We are indebted to them for the time and guidance they give to EARCOS throughout the year. Thank you one and all!
Here’s to a wonderful ELC together!

Edward E. Greene, Ph.D. Executive Director

Independent schools have never lacked for challenges and this year is no different. What is happening stateside and what can we all learn from it? What do the shifting times mean for our students, our staff, higher education, and the way we work with our boards? What will require us to adjust our sails, and what may require transformation of our institutions? Whatever it is, it won’t be boring!
In August 2023, Debra P. Wilson began her tenure as the ninth president of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
From 2019 until 2023, Wilson served as president of the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), where she led the organization through a period of growth and supported school leaders in her region through the COVID-19 pandemic. Her SAIS role followed 19 years at NAIS, first as assistant director of regulatory affairs and later as general counsel. In that capacity, she oversaw regulatory and advocacy work for the organization, supported schools in crises, advanced best practices in governance, and created dozens of legal advisories along with other informational resources. Before joining the NAIS staff, Debra was a tax litigator at the Department of Justice. (read more on Whova App)

What happens when machines can think, act, and create alongside us?
In a world where AI is increasingly capable, the real advantage isn’t the technology, it’s how we lead alongside it. This keynote challenges leaders, educators, and innovators to make a critical shift: moving from using AI as a tool to partnering with it as a trusted teammate.
Through practical examples and human-centered insights, Dr. Sabba Quidwai shows how design thinking fuels the mindset and methods needed to build cultures of innovation rooted in empathy and trust. She introduces the SPARK framework, a powerful guide for prompting, collaborating, and creating with AI intentionally and ethically. This isn’t about doing more with machines. It’s about building a future where human creativity, leadership, and connection drive lasting advantage. Now is the moment to lead what comes next.
Dr. Sabba Quidwai is a speaker, author, and advisor who helps visionary leaders design human-centered systems that are technology-driven. As the CEO of Designing Schools and a lecturer at the University of California, Irvine, Sabba blends research-backed strategy with real-world application.
A former high school educator and Education Executive at Apple, Sabba has been researching the future of learning and AI since 2014. Her book and documentary, Designing Schools, explore how design thinking helps people lead through change with confidence and creativity. She believes cultures of innovation begin with cultures of empathy, where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow. (Read more on Whova App)
