04 Crookpoint Bridge
Year:2021
With Ultramoderne
Status: Competition Finalist
Ultramoderne was one of five offices selected to re-imagine the use for the defunct bascule bridge. The design seeks to activate and reconnect the entirety of Gano Park and the East Providence waterfront through the introduction of a simple, lightweight path that rises from Gano Street. up and through the bascule bridge, and back down to the Waterfront Drive at the east. The fully accessible path is activated by three new social condensers, each with a specific program and relationship to the water: The Pool, The Island, and The Loop.

05 Pseudo-Public Art Center for Downtown Providence
Critic: Cara Liberatore Core Studio II
The Downtown area of Providence is the central economic, cultural, and political center of the city. Bounded by the Providence River and lnterstate-95, it also serves as the central transportation hub for the Rhode Island Transit Authority, which connects Providence to greater Rhode Island area. In spite of this, there are relatively no enclosed public spaces in the central Downtown Area. There are, however, a number of "pseudo" public spaces within larger private complex which have vague barriers of access - either monetary (coffee shop) or institutional (RISD Library).

The introduction of a public arts facility therefor begged the question of how to translate this notions of pseudo-public into a programmatically resolved architecture. Public/Private, becomes SpecificNague, and SpecificNague becomes Craft/Art.

Printing Form

Temporary Installation
Winter 2019
- -----CNC RICHLITE PANEL CNC BRACING FRAME
Printing Form is a temporary installation in Mark Square in Downtown Providence RI. Designed in collaboration with Zachary Schumacher (M. Arch '20) and Susu Pan (B. Arch '21), This "proto-architecture" was selected over 4 other design proposals. The form was conceived as an in-situ collision of geometric primitives. The final product was fabricated as a collection of CNC panels, connected at each edge by bracketed "clips". The material, generously donated by Rich lite, were layered sheets of compressed pulp/resin - allowing us to "carve" the graphic into the material face.
