lighting approach outside by using layered lighting strategies like up and down wall lights and tree uplighting to achieve a seamless feeling between inside and out "

Stephanie Gilsenan of Studio 95 Interiors agrees that consistency is essential "A seamless space relies on continuity rather than having contrast," she says "This can relate to having the same flooring running inside to outside and having a unified style of lighting and furniture both inside and outside "

She also highlights the importance of practical architectural details "Having level thresholds between inside and outside will make the journey and sightlines between spaces seamless "

Importantly, creating an indoor-outdoor feel is not reserved for homes with large gardens or expansive glazing Both designers emphasise that smaller spaces can achieve the same effect through thoughtful styling.

"Treat your outdoors the same as you would indoors, and vice versa, " says Tsao She suggests adding "cushions and throws" outdoors while bringing natural touches inside, such as "fresh flowers from the garden" She also notes that British homeowners often experience their gardens from indoors. "Even without grand bi-fold doors, any window or glazed door is a chance to create a 'framed picture' of your outside "

For apartments and homes with limited outdoor access, Gilsenan recommends introducing greenery indoors "Having plants or a mainly green colour palette inside helps blur the lines between both spaces, " she says. "It creates the effect of 'pulling' the garden inside."

Family life has been at the heart of the house It has hosted Christmas celebrations, milestone birthdays and garden parties, while also providing quiet spaces for work and study During the pandemic, four adults worked from home simultaneously with ease One of the home's greatest assets is its setting. "I grew up in Wales looking at mountains from my bedroom window," says one owner "Ingleby Lodge looks towards Horsenden Hill, so I still get that feeling of open landscape in Ealing "

Its location offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful road with easy access to Pitshanger Village "Having independent shops, parks and such a strong sense of community on the doorstep has been invaluable "

With their sons now grown up and moved away, the owners feel the time is right to pass the house on "It deserves another family to fill it with laughter, energy and new memories and to feel as lucky as we do "

The meal began with a selection of Chicken Dumplings which were delicately filled and comforting, alongside crisp Vegetable Spring Rolls that disappeared almost instantly Sesame Prawn Toast followed, rich and satisfying with just the right crunch, and Chinese BBQ Spare Ribs that were an instant hit with my children who tried them for the first time that evening and could not believe they had never eaten them before Crispy Shredded Seaweed added a savoury contrast before the second course arrived with Crispy Aromatic Duck, carved at the table and full of flavour

The mains were equally impressive. Crispy Chilli Beef was beautifully balanced with sweetness and heat, while Sweet and Sour Prawns offered a lighter, tangy option. ‘Gong Bao’ Sichuan Chicken brought a gentle spice that built with each bite and the Yeung Chow Special Fried Rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked Mixed Vegetable Chow Mein rounded everything off, simple but well executed and a reassuring staple in a generous spread

What stood out most was the sheer abundance of food The portions were
