Eagle’s Nest Foundation Information Parents 2012 Annual for Report

81st Season 2008

Dear Eagle’s Nesters, It is wonderful to take a moment and reflect on the past year and think of each of you who has done so much to sustain and care for Eagle’s Nest, its mission, our staff and faculty and the wonderful young people who participate in our programs. We have had a remarkable year thanks to you. I was lucky enough to see many of you at the 85th Reunion in September. It was a glorious weekend with over 400 alumni, friends and supporters all coming together to reminisce about camp, Hante and Outdoor Academy (OA) experiences. I truly believe that it was the excitement leading up to, during and after this event that helped propel our Annual Fund past the original goal. This success provided much-needed assistance for capital expenditures and scholarships in 2012 and set us up well going into 2013 and the many initiatives we have on our plate. Last year we were able to award 110 campers and 21 students financial aid totaling $290,235. Of that, $135,540 was funded by our donors – the highest funded amount we have had to date. Thank you for creating this success! Looking ahead to 2013 we fully anticipate requests to remain at current levels. Other projects that were initiated in 2012 and that continue on into 2013 are the replacement of our waste water treatment plant and an overhaul of our data management system. These are critical needs for our foundation that you are helping to address. Our partnership with Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy continues with the resubmission of a grant application to the Clean Water Management Trust Fund of NC. Funding of the grant would provide much needed revenue to position ENF to pay down some of the debt we incurred when we purchased the mountainside behind us. With a successful application, that very same land would go under a conservation agreement to keep that space wild for generations to come. Eagle’s Nest continues to seek individuals and partners who are interested in assisting with this initiative. This year our Board of Trustees will embark upon long range planning process to chart a course for our next 15 years and our centennial anniversary. We are excited to conduct this visioning exercise and set plans in place. There is a great deal of excitement at Eagle’s Nest these days with the fresh energy of our new Head of School , the excellent programming that happens across the seasons in camp, Hante and OA, and the successes we are seeing in our enrollments and donor support. You are a valued member of the network that drives our organization forward. Thank you for your loyalty and making our students and campers a part of your giving priorities. With deep gratitude,

Noni Waite-Kucera Executive Director
