an ‘nyc experience’ on a smaller scale
With influx of residents, arts, entertainment continue to grow in Downtown Syracuse by E.Jay Zarett
Downtown Syracuse has always been touted as a place to go to eat, drink, shop and be merry. Over
the past few years, the city has become home to an increasing population of younger people who are attracted to the concept of having everything they need close by. Creekwalk Commons opened in 2014, expanding the opportunity for students and young professionals to live in Syracuse’s urban environment. The luxury apartment complex, located on West Water Street, borders the Onondaga Creekwalk and is just a five-minute walk from Armory Square in

Downtown. Brad Stalter, Creekwalk Commons’ property manager, said that the complex filled all but one of its 75 apartments in 2014. Since then, Creekwalk Commons has maintained a similar occupancy rate, with a mix of about 40 percent student residents and 60 percent professionals. “I think being close to that kind of New York City experience, in a smaller city, is something that Downtown l Page 6
