JAZZ FEST SET FOR SUNDAY

C

NY Jazz Central’s annual winter jazz festival, The Seneca Savings January JAZZfest, will again be held from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, at Mohegan Manor, Baldwinsville. This year’s national guest artist is Ron Wilkins, New York City vocalist and trombonist, with Syracuse singer Ronnie Leigh. Continuous music on all floors of the venue will showcase a multiplicity of styles - from bebop, cabaret, R and B, Soul, and Smooth Jazz to Texas Swing. The Syracuse Ceramics Guild will hold a fine arts silent auction, and a pair of S.U. basketball tickets will be raffled. Advance tickets are available for $25 at cnyjazz.org. Admission at the door is $30, $15 with valid student I.D. Other acts performing throughout the day include the RnB and classic soul of Trumptight 315, Mark Hoffmann’s Texasstyle “Swing This!” with special guest soloists, cabaret vocalist Scott Dennis and pianist Dave Solazzo. Twin jam sessions will finish the festivities, a CNY Jazz Alumni jam and a closing session led by Jeff Stockham and his Jazz Police. Mohegan Manor’s fine food and drink will be available at all times throughout the eight-hour festival. A complete hourby-hour performance schedule is available at cnyjazz.org/january-jazzfest. CNY Jazz is partnering with one of the area’s most respected visual art organizations, the Syracuse Ceramics Guild, which

will hold a fine arts silent auction to benefit both organizations, featuring work by internationally renowned artists including Margie Hughto and David McDonald. Raffle items will also be available, including the centerpiece prize of two tickets to any basketball game in the Dome for the remainder of their season. “We call this event our annual ‘fun-raiser’, because you’d never know it was a charity event,” said Larry Luttinger founder of CNY Jazz and creator of the event, now in its eighth year. “There’s a room with a style of music catering to every taste at this festival.” All proceeds from the event will support CNY Jazz Central, which presents more than 300 events to an annual audience of over 54,000. They include a summer season of festivals and concerts like the Northeast Jazz & Wine Fest, the Stage of Nations ECOfest and Jazz in the City; the CNY Jazz Cabaret Series, a busy arts-in-ed-

ucation service, shows at downtown’s Jazz Central theater, the SummerJazz Workshop, the Stan Colella Parks & Recreation All-Stars, two music series held at Le Moyne College’s Le Moyne Plaza, the new Jazz at the Cavalier Series at the historic Marriott Syracuse Downtown, and other series of all kinds throughout the extended region.
