CNY Veterans Parade, Expo set for Saturday ‘Women in the Military: Past, Present and Future’ to be theme
A
simple “thank you” is not strong enough to convey the gratitude that the men and women who served in the military deserve. The 10th Annual CNY Veterans Parade and Expo is being held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the NYS Fairgrounds. The purpose of the event is to honor our veterans with a parade and offer them information and entertainment at the expo. The event is being on Nov. 4, a week before Veterans Day, so local municipalities and veterans’ organizations could hold their traditional ceremonies and celebrations. While the CNY Veterans Parade and Expo honors all who served, “Women in the Military: Past, Present and Future” is the theme of this year’s event. A photographic exhibit of Women Air Service Pilots from the National WASP WWII Museum will be featured at the Expo. Women with pilots licenses were called upon to allow male pilots to fly for combat during WWII. The WASPs were sent to Avenger Field in Texas and, for many, it was their first time away from home. They were trained, maintained military standards and observed military regulations, but were still deemed civil service. This set the path for future female pilots in the military.
