Mulroy Civic Center - Carrier Theatre. According to SCT Executive Director and Founder Todd Ellis, the production features five students from the local 13035 zip code. Maya Jenkins, grade 7, will appear as “Maleficent;” Jayce Hyatt, grade 9, as “Jay;” Ava Hyatt, grade 2, as “Auradonian;” Bobby McDowell, grade 6, as “Auradonian 1;” and Grace Besaw, grade 2, as “Isle Ensemble.” “SCT is great because you get to meet so many great people and have fun acting with them,” said Jayce. “This is my third show with them. I could not recommend
doing it more.” Adapted from the Disney Channel Original Movies, “Descendants,” the musical tells the story of four children of Disney villains Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella De Vil. When the teens are sent from the Isle of the Lost to the kingdom of Auradon to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they must decide whether to follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good. SCT is a not-for-profit organization that has served as a theatrical training ground for Central New York children since 1999. Throughout the year, the theatre provides semester-long classes and oneand two-week school break camps, all of which culminate in a production at the Civic Center. SCT’s main artistic staff consists of
Director Babs Rubenstein, Choreographer Kellie Ellis, and Music Director Nikita Richards, who are all full-time employees. Each three-hour class session also has five part-time staff members/assistant teachers. Through SCT’s instruction and final performance, pre-K through grade 12 students learn the fundamentals of theatre, including audition preparation, dance/ movement, music, and scene work. According to Ellis, 95 percent of SCT classes culminate in a musical theatre production. “We have had four one-hour productions of plays by William Shakespeare during our 5th Summer session over the years, including ‘Romeo & Juliet,’ ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ ‘Macbeth,’ and ‘As You Like It,’” Ellis said. “[However,] most students want musicals, thus SCT l Page 13
During the Nov. 20 Cazenovia Central School District (CCSD) Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Business/School Business Official Thomas Finnerty provided an update on the steps the district has taken so far to prepare for the upcoming transition to an all-electric bus fleet. New York State has mandated that all new school bus purchases must be zero emission by 2027 and all school buses on the road must be fully electric by 2035. Finnerty reported that he and a few other district administrators met with a grant writer the previous week to start the process of developing a request for proposal for a shared garage and electric vehicle charging infrastructure feasibility study. CCSD has been awarded $25,000 in state funding to support the study. The school district, the Village of Cazenovia, the Town of Cazenovia, and the Town of Nelson will use the funding to explore opportunities to consolidate bus and highway garage infrastructure and resources. The study will also examine the feasibility of shared electric vehicle charging infrastructure. “We are going to commission a study looking at what services might be practical for us to share,” said Finnerty. “Would it be a charging facility only? Would it be nothing? Would it be a facility where we could charge and do repairs and maintenance to these electric vehicles? So, we are really at the beginning stages of [determining] what is really possible.” The funding was awarded through the NYS Local Government Efficiency Program, which provides technical assistance and grants for inter-municipal projects targeting shared opportunities, cost savings, and the delivery of efficient, quality services. The application was prepared on behalf of CCSD by Lauren Lines, executive director of the Cazenovia Area Community Development Association. The grant requires a minimum local match of $25,000. “The district and the [municipalities] would have to put up $25,000, and the state pays $25,000,” Finnerty said. Finnerty also informed the board that the district commissioned a company to conduct a study of the CCSD bus routes to determine the types of buses that will be needed, the battery capacity they will require, and the charging infrastructure necessary to power the buses to operate on a daily basis. Prior to that study, Finnerty asked National Grid to conduct an evaluation of potential transportation facility sites. “They thought at that point that our current facility had a suitable amount of electricity,” Finnerty said. “Keep in mind, BOE l Page 13
Christmas at Lorenzo returns with a celebration of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ By kate Hill Staff Writer
This holiday season, the Lorenzo mansion will open its doors to the public from Dec. 5-10 to celebrate Christmas at Lorenzo: “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” The New York State historic site hosted its first Christmas at Lorenzo program in 1974. “Christmas at Lorenzo has become a tradition for many folks in Central New York, and we are thrilled to continue that this year with ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas,’” said Historic Site Manager Matthew MacVittie. “Please join us to view the beautifully decorated mansion and take a horse-drawn sleigh/wagon ride through the beautiful grounds of Lorenzo State Historic Site.” In preparation for the celebration, volunteer decorators were each assigned one of the gifts detailed in the classic English Christmas carol and invited to use their creativity to incorporate that theme into their holiday adornments. According to Interpretive Programs Assistant Jacqueline Roshia, the entire mansion, including the two historic bathrooms on view, has been decorated. This year’s volunteer decorators include Wendy Van der Bogart; Elizabeth and Nancy Whiting; Syracuse Garden Club members Pat Hill, Pam Ellis, and Judy Larter; Linda and Jeffrey Kellish; Barbara Bartlett; Kathleen Conway Hoak; Dixie Conway; Jaime Colvin; Mark Smith; Kerstin and Megan McKay; Elizabeth Koennecke; Beth Duffy; Laura Loveland-Leitch; Susan Anthony; Mary Gasparini; Kristen Rubacka; and Lorenzo Driving Competition members Carol Buckhout, Cindy Torelli, Carol Ilacqua, Judy Sears, Marjie Tormey, Weese
Sullivan, Janis Barth, Peter Barth, Taylor Pelcher, Courtney Livecchi, and Sue Woltman. “I have decorated different rooms at Lorenzo for at least 10 years,” said Ellis, who is vice president of the Syracuse Garden Club. “Is anything nicer than being a part of Christmas at Lorenzo? It is always special to use various pieces from the Lorenzo collection when decorating the rooms.” According to Roshia, the entire Lorenzo staff is involved in making the Christmas event happen each year. This year, staff decorator Elizabeth Whiting worked with her mother, Nancy, in the formal dining room. Whiting also worked with staff member Melinda Reeder to decorate the mansion exhibit wing and gift shop. “Alison Boissonnas, also known as Rippleton Schoolhouse Marm Miss Buckland, will have the schoolhouse decorated, [and] our maintenance staff — Jennifer Quinn, Jeremy Bushaw, Tommy Eberl, and Spencer Eberst — do all the outside decorating, including a festive photo-op spot in the Dark Aisle.,” said Roshia. Senior student-athletes announce college plans By kate Hill Staff Writer
On Friday, Nov. 17, the Cazenovia Central School District Athletic Department held a ceremony at the high school to recognize four senior athletes who officially signed National Letters of Intent to attend a college/university and participate at the scholarship level of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sports. Jack Donlin has committed to attend the University of Maine in Orono, Maine to play NCAA Division I Baseball. Reid McMurtrie will be running NCAA Division I Track & Field at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. Raeanne Thompson will be playing NCAA Division I Soccer at Le Moyne College in DeWitt, and Isabella Fazio is headed to Buffalo to play NCAA Division II Field Hockey at D’Youville University. “We are so proud of these students — Jack, Reid, Raeny, and Bella — who have been recruited to play their favorite sports at the college level and have had the talent, work ethic, and academic success to be offered athletic scholarships to attend their college or university of choice,” said Athletic Administrator Mike Byrnes. “All these students not only have thrived in their soon-to-be college level
sport, but they also have been multi-sport athletes for the Cazenovia program, working on their athletic skills in other ways, developing leadership skills, competing and staying calm under pressure, and cross-training to become the best all-around athletes they can be. We hope these student-athletes will continue the healthy habits and routines that have helped them to be successful in high school and they will continue to excel and grow for the next levels. All four students are even bigger role models now in our community, and their families and friends, in addition to the coaches, teachers, and school staff, are very proud!” The athletic department will celebrate additional student-athletes during the school district’s Recruited Athlete Press Conference on June 10 at 3:15 p.m. Students recruited and committed to a college team at any level of the NCAA Divisions, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, or non-college advanced post-scholastic level athletics are eligible to announce their commitment at this press conference. CRIS hosts Senior Fair in a Bag By kate Hill Staff Writer
On Nov. 15, the Cazenovia-based organization Community Resources for Independent Seniors (CRIS) collaborated with Community Living Advocates and the Madison County Office for the Aging (OFA) to host the annual “Madison County Senior Fair in a Bag” event. A crew of volunteers gathered at the CRIS Office at 6 Mill St., Cazenovia, to stuff 300 bags with informational materials for local se-
niors who are housebound or were otherwise unable to attend the Madison County OFA Senior Fair on Oct. 11 in Canastota. The fair brought together various businesses and organizations to provide information to seniors and caregivers about services, programs, and products geared toward individuals ages 55 and over. The following vendors were featured this year: CRIS, Community Living Advocates, Madison County OFA, The Grand, Alzheimer’s Association, Nascentia

This talk will introduce some of the architects working in the region, as well as buildings that exemplify the aesthetic and social philosophy and design principles of the Arts & Crafts movement. BRiDGES, the Madison County Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Inc., will present several screenings of the prevention educational documentary, Screenagers Under the Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs, and Alcohol in the Digital Age, to Madison County. The group’s prevention education specialists have been working closely with school leaders and students alike to address the alarming increase of addiction, mental health struggles, and local access to alcohol and other drugs. Screenagers, featured on Good Morning America and ABC News, offers practical solutions, debunks myths, presents lived experience common scenarios and consults experts along with scientific, evidence-based research. According to BRiDGES, as a community, “we desire to face this complicated terrain and keep our teens safe in an ever-changing world.” Following the film, BRiDGES prevention education specialists will be available to walk parents/ caregivers through their interactive presentation, In Plain Sight: Learn what items may be red flags for experimentation with drugs and alcohol, what texting trends and behaviors indicate possible

nity members to help stuff the bags,” said CRIS Executive Director Karisha Solomon. “We put out the information on the table and [stuffed] each bag as if we were at the fair.” In addition to the materials from the different vendors, the bags were also filled with goodies such as candy, chip clips, jar openers, stress balls, magnifying bookmarks, pens, notebooks, and reusable bags. The free bags were distributed to seniors via the Madison County Meals on Wheels program and the Kinney Drugs medication delivery program. This year, Community Memorial Hospital joined the effort as a pick-up location. Leftover bags can be picked up at the Cazenovia, Morrisville, Munnsville, or Hamilton Family Health Centers. The Cazenovia Public Library also has a limited number of bags. The senior fair in a bag event was sponsored by Wellcare and Reflections Management & Care, which helped cover the costs of advertising and the luncheon that CRIS provided to the volunteers. “This event was started during COVID to reach our homebound seniors,” said Solomon. “It provided information but also a way to check in and say, ‘We are here for you.’ The feedback has been so great that we have contin-

Winter driving
Winter is an inevitable factor of life in Central New York. As of this writing projections of what this winter might look like have been all over the place as meteorologists try to anticipate a variety of factors including El Nino conditions. The most recent forecast seems to indicate our area will see more snow than it has in recent years but temperatures may remain higher than normal. But as we all know winter in Central New York can be anything but predictable. While we are mostly spared the more intense snowfalls that hit communities to the west and north of our region, sooner or later it is likely we will have to deal with our fair share snowfall. What the weeks and months to come until spring is here again will bring is anyone’s guess. There are memes and old clichés that say in Central New York we can experience all four seasons in the matter of a single day, and there are times when that is not so far off the mark. But no matter what the weather brings, snow is likely to be a factor one way or the other, heavy or light, throughout the coming months. This affects or daily activities from the morning and evening commute to going to the store for groceries. And it is a factor we all have to take into consideration for our own safety and the safety of others when we are out on the road, whether it is commuting 20 plus miles a day or 10 minutes down the road. AAA recommends taking some common sense measures to ensure safety for yourself and others on the road. Do not tailgate. Normal following distances of three to four seconds on dry pavement should be extended to a minimum of five to six seconds when driving on slippery surfaces. The extra time will provide additional braking room should a sudden stop become necessary. Never use cruise control on slippery roads. If your vehicle hydroplanes or skids, you will lose the ability to regain some traction simply by lifting off the accelerator. It will be harder to recover from the loss of traction if cruise control is active. Slow down and adjust your speed to the road conditions. Leave yourself ample room to stop. Accelerate, turn and brake as gradually and smoothly as you can. Don’t slam on the brakes. If your car begins to skid, continue to steer in the direction you want the car to go. Slamming on the brakes will only make your vehicle harder to control. Use extreme caution on bridges and overpasses. Black ice typically forms first in shaded areas of the roadway and on bridges and overpasses that freeze first and melt last. Although the road leading up to a bridge may be fine, the bridge itself could be a sheet of ice. React quickly. Watch the traffic ahead and slow down immediately at the sight of brake lights, skidding cars or emergency flashers. AAA also recommends taking the time to be mindful of the condition of your vehicle. Cold weather can affect batteries, leading to a drain of power. It is also vital to make sure the ignition and heating systems are working correctly. Properly clearing snow from the vehicle before driving and having adequate wiper fluid to keep the windshield clear are also highly recommended. Even considerations such as clothing should be taken into consideration. AAA recommends wearing comfortable clothing. While heavy coats and gloves are good when outside, once a vehicle heats up, these items may be too restrictive and inhibit movement. Having a free range of motion becomes even more important when needing to drive safely in bad weather according to AAA. In Mr. Peterson’s letter printed in the 11/08/23 edition, he gave an excellent example of that, calling for Cazenovia to return to its former glory while at the same time making rude and uncalled for comments about Fayetteville and Manlius. I certainly wish Cazenovians all the best as they face the challenges Mr. Peterson mentioned in his letter, and I hope they are able to make Cazenovia its best self. But I don’t believe there needs to be competition among the villages to be vibrant or full of character. Assuming that Mike Small, deputy mayor, will serve in the role as mayor starting Jan. 1, who decides, what are the steps and timeline, that will be followed to temporarily fill the resulting trustee vacancy? There are four positions up for election in March 2024: the mayor, two trustees and justice. I sent an email to all board members requesting this information, but did not receive a reply. FM Food Pantry service surged in 2023 By Pam O’Malley
Fayetteville Manlius Food Pantry provides food assistance to households in the FM School District. We have been serving the community for 25 years. Registered households may come once a month to receive 15 meals per household member. We distribute nutritious, balanced meals consisting of vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, cereal, bread, meat, eggs, and dairy. We also offer paper products, toiletries, detergents, light bulbs, COVID test kits, books, children’s birthday celebration items, and much more. We can refer clients to other resources such as SNAP, WIC, Free/Reduced Price School Meals, Affordable Connectivity Plan, United Way 2-1-1, and our local Grace Abounds Wear-House (for no-cost, gently used clothing for all ages, located at First Baptist Church in Manlius). If you do not reside in the FM School District, we would be happy to refer you to the pantry for your area – or you can go to Food Bank of CNY’s website at foodbankcny.org and click on Find Food for a list of food resources closest to you. None of us knows when we might need assistance due to life’s unpredictability – from job loss, family dynamics, accident, health issues or other factors. The pantry is here to help ensure our FM neighbors have enough food during difficult times. We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of households needing assistance this year related to changes to SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) which reduced benefits for many eligible households, combined with higher food, housing and energy costs, and overall inflation. The following is a snapshot of the need we see: l Nearly 150 households – made up of approximately 350 of our FM neighbors – are registered at the pantry. lMany of our clients utilize the pantry monthly, while some visit less often. Visit frequency depends on many variables, but all clients are thankful the pantry is here for them. l In October 2023, we provided over 3,180 meals to those facing hunger in our community. lOver a third of our households have children. l Over a third of our households are seniors. We are so grateful to the community – the many individuals, churches, schools, groups and organizations, farms, local businesses, volunteers, and others who serve in various ways as partners in these hunger relief efforts – for your generosity and kindness. As always, the answer lies not in a few clever phrases, but in the hearts and souls of every single player, coach and fan I have encountered from my young adulthood to well into middle age. Sure, many of them would gain college scholarships, some would turn into professionals and a few of them might achieve fame beyond their Central New York roots, but most of them would never play at a level of sports beyond high school and, as such, this would represent their pinnacle. When they did achieve something great, the emotions they would display would not be forgotten, and even better, the way their families, their friends and their communities would line up behind them creates a magic that cannot be replicated at higher levels where sometimes the pressure is so great that a championship is something endured, not enjoyed. Does it all get to be too much? Yes, the sheer volume of sports can prove exhausting, and by June a respite is a must, or complete burnout may have happened many year ago. Somehow, it has never morphed into a complete desire to run away. As the
dedication and help, combined with the support we receive from Food Bank of CNY, has enabled us to provide over 31,000 meals in the past year to the FM community and to continue providing more meals as the need grows. We couldn’t fulfill our mission without you! The pantry is located at 122 E. Seneca Street in Manlius, behind and below Pavone’s Pizza, in a space generously donated by the Pavone family. Going on sale the latter part of this week at local stores is a 52-page booklet, titled, “Cazenovia.” Contributions have made its publication possible. Kenneth T. Webber of the Cazenovia Central School English department devoted his whole summer vacation to editing the brochure. Delmar E. King, also of the Central School faculty, was the photographer shooting the near 170 local scenes which fill 45 of the pages. Merrill Bailey of the school was in charge of the art. There is no advertising since the pamphlet is prepared as a historical record and to publicize the beauty and charm of Cazenovia. “Nature’s Masterpiece, Cazenovia, founded upon ideals hallowed by timehonored custom” is the heading on the title page. On the front cover is the Lincklaen coat of arms and on the back cover is the coat of arms of Theophilus de Cazenove after whom the village was named, both printed in colors.
55 Years Ago – Nov. 27, 1968
“American Bird Decoys,” an exhibition of decoys from the collection of George Thompson of Rolling Ridge Farm, is on display at Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute in Utica. Mr. Thompson also makes and restores decoys. Included in the exhibit are factory made pieces from the period 1850 to 1918, when decoy production was at its peak in America. Hand-carved decoys by the small group of skilled craftsmen who sustained the craft after professional bird hunting was banned in 1918, are also shown. Examples of primitive utilitarian carving, American bird decoys have taken their place as part of America’s folk art, and are now avidly collected, according to the Utica Museum.
years move on, though, I can sympathize more and more with those who do want to maintain their balance of life and make sure things like family and friends are not casualties. At the same time, a sane, grounded perspective never allows me to get completely wrapped up in what takes place on a field or court or ice rink or any other sports surface. These are glorious games, but they are still games, reflecting our lives but never, ever taking them over. Years back, at an early-season basketball tournament long forgotten to history, I was talking to an athletic director about whether I would return the following night, perhaps wishy-washy or just unsure. He promptly told me that of course I would be there, and he was right. Try as this body might to steer clear of this wonderful scene and the (mostly) wonderful people within it, my heart, and soul, always returns, finds renewal and rejuvenation, and reminds me that this is exactly where I want to be and exactly what I want to do. When it comes to a recent contest sponsored by Decor magazine, a trade journal which focuses on the framing and art gallery business, Gene Gissin may have lost the battle but won the war. Mr. Gissin, who owns a photography studio and framing shop on Williams St., in Cazenovia, entered the magazine’s recent unique use of space contest. Even though he didn’t win first place, the judges thought enough of his use of the former railroad depot station and a Lehigh Valley Railroad caboose as a studio to do a special four page feature on the local business for their October issue. Not only is the caboose and station a local attraction, visitors to the area and historical buffs are fascinated by the studio. “Each week I would say there is at least one group of people who stop in to look around and are curious about the station and caboose,” Mr. Gissin said. “There were some hurdles, but it all brought an awareness to the shop while pointing up the uniqueness of the caboose.”

Madison County shook their stuff at Cazenovia Family Fitness Center Saturday for ‘Hips Against Hunger’ a belly dancing intensive to benefit Community Action Partnership for Madison County. Participants enjoyed a presentation on the history and costuming of belly dancing before learning to shake it themselves during an intensive class taught by local instructors from Shakti Dancers. “I have been a dance student and teacher for over six years, and this was by far my most fun and fulfilling event to date,” said event organizer and local dance instructor Treva Purcell. Purcell was inspired to host the fundraiser after speaking with one of her dance students, an employee at CAP, about the number of Madison County residents who are homeless, out of work or in need of support.
In golf…We learn from our mistakes About 5 years after I become a competitive golfer, I realized that, “Success in golf is directly related to what we do, after we botch, bungle, flub, muddle, blunder or spoil a golf shot”. I have both experienced and observed elite as well as high handicap golfers and have concluded that everyone has their own way of responding to the mistakes and those who learn what to do about them, have the best opportunity to succeed. Sort of like the game of life. Do you know the biggest differences between high handicap amateur players, and elite amateurs? If you don’t, you should, because it is absolutely the most effective way to become a better golfer. Whether your goal is to break 100, 90 or 80 next year, the following questions will identify the weaknesses in your golf game. Please take the following quiz I prepared for you to determine how far you are from reaching your goals next year. You just might find out you are not as far away as you think. 1. How many times during a round of golf do you get angry after making a bad shot? Never? Seldom? Sometimes? Often? 2. During a round of golf, how many times, after hitting a bad shot, have you said to yourself…play for a bogey? Never? Seldom? Sometimes? Often? 3. How many times during a round do you “not” take enough club on your approach shot to the green? Never? Seldom? Sometimes? Often? 4. During a round, how many times do you “overthink” and “overstudy” all shots, but especially when reading your putts? Never? Seldom? Sometimes? Often? 5. When you make a bad shot during a round, do you know why you missed it? Never? Seldom? Sometimes? Often? 6. When you make a good shot, do you know why you hit it well? Never? Seldom? Sometimes? Often? I believe you can figure out the best answer to each question above on your

own. The point of the quiz is to make you aware that breaking “80” does not require, “major technical shifts” as Golf Magazine says, “but instead, eliminating the simple mistakes”. I’m not sure it’s quite as “simple” as Golf Magazine says it is, but certainly focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of your game will be helpful to understand “where” your bad shots are going and “why” they are going there. “You will never be able to eliminate your ‘miss‘ but your attitude after your ’miss’ will determine the type of golfer you become. Eliminate your mistakes next year and decide what kind of golfer you want to be… * Breaking 100 should be the goal of every beginner golfer. * Breaking 90 should be the goal of every recreational golfer who plays at least 2-4 times a month. * Breaking 80 should be the goal of every amateur golfer who plays in a golf league every week and in 3-4 tournaments a year. * Breaking 80 “consistently”, should be the goal of every amateur golfer who seeks to establish himself/herself in the Top 3% of golfers in the country. * Breaking 75 consistently as an amateur is not easy, but when you do, you will have achieved the “Holy Grail” of golf. Congratulations! “Golf is not about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s about learning how to dance in the rain”. When Vivian Greene wrote this quote, the word “Life” started the sentence. I decided to use the word “Golf” because it is just as appropriate, isn’t it?

Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather Bruce D. King, 81, of Cazenovia, passed away at home on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023. He was born Jan. 23, 1942 in Rome, N.Y., to Robert and Jane King and was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy in 1960. Bruce had a long career in the flooring business and was employed with Tile & Carpet Town for over 30 years and retired from Manco Distributors after 15 years of service. Bruce was well known and well respected among

HOPE for Bereaved names new executive director Kelly Ocampo begins her new role on Monday, Oct. 2 Kelly Ocampo is the new Executive Director at HOPE for Bereaved. Ocampo has almost two decades of experience in the non-profit sector with a focus on program development and grant writing. “When our long-time founder Terese Schoeneck retired there was much concern on our board as to whether we could find a person worthy of the role,” said Hope for Bereaved Board of Directors Member Rodger Loomis. “I believe Kelly has the experience, maturity, and seriousness of purpose required to take this great organization to the level necessary to ensure its continued mission for another 40 years.” Hope for Bereaved Board of Directors President Steve Schoeneck also expressed his support of Ocampo as executive director. “Kelly has all the skills to excel as the executive director, but specifically she has the desire and drive to ensure Hope is here serving the community for many years to come,” Schoeneck said. “We all look forward to working with Kelly to serve the bereaved wherever they are.” Ocampo said she connects with HOPE’s mission. “Forty-five years ago, Therese Schoeneck turned a personal tragedy into

But there is hope on the other side of that grief, which is why I am thrilled to join HOPE for Bereaved as the new Executive Director. Following in Therese’s footsteps, I will work to ensure HOPE for Bereaved is here to serve our diverse community for another 45 years.”

HOPE for Bereaved is dedicated to helping grieving children, teens and adults by providing core services (support groups, monthly newsletter and counseling) at no charge. Founded in 1978, HOPE is an independent nonprofit community organization. Our purpose is to offer support, understanding, coping strategies, friendship, and hope to the bereaved, as well as education, consultation and resources for their families, friends, employers, school/daycare staff, co-workers and invested professionals. The help given by HOPE can add greatly to the physical and mental well-being of the bereaved and therefore to their place of employment and to the community.

Aaron, a Marine Corps Veteran and his wife Erin, started the business in 2021 and have worked hard to give customers the best service possible. Kids Against Hunger: Student Athletic Oneida Indian Nation honors local veterans at annual event More than 400 local veterans were honored for Council packages meals for Haiti their service Nov. 1 at the The Skaneateles Student Athletic Council earlier this year packed more than 70,000 meals with Kids Against Hunger at Grace Chapel. The 25 students and faculty members made 73,674 meals, which are destined for Haiti. Members of the SAC were able to see the process from start to finish, and helped pack food items onto pallets and then onto the truck. Kids Against Hunger is a non-profit humanitarian organization with the mission to provide to impoverished children and families around the world. The SAC’s purpose is to engender and sustain school pride/spirit with acts of philanthropy, improve/beautify our athletic facilities, and promote a vision of the future for

The elite group of men and women recognized at the event included Anthony Pircio, a 102-year old WWII Army Air Corps Veteran from Manlius, and several Oneida Indian Nation Members and Oneida Indian Nation employees who are veterans. Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter, Colonel Matt Braman from Fort Drum and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. all shared remarks at the event about the special relationship between the Oneida Indian Nation and the United States Military and the service of local veterans. The Oneida Indian Nation also presented a donation to Feed Our Vets, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing fully-stocked food pantries for veterans.
