As one of the oldest prep schools in the country, founded in 1820, Eagle House is steeped in tradition and yet it is also very progressive and constantly pushing the boundaries, to ensure the absolute best for our children. Pre-Prep Eagle House Pre-Prep buzzes with life. It is a bright and stimulating place, where everyone is made to feel special. Starting with Nursery and Reception (Early Years) and then moving on to Year 1 and Year 2 (KS1), this is where we build foundations.
A broad all-round curriculum ensures happy, engaged learning. Our experienced KS1 team combines a careful blend of numeracy and literacy along with science, technology, French, art, sport, swimming, drama and outdoor learning, as well as a varied selection of extra-curricular activities including judo, ballet and chess. These experiences encourage enquiring, investigative minds and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) fosters children’s interests and ideas. A focus on caring for others, showing respect and kindness and celebrating success at every level is at the heart of our Pre-Prep. Strong foundations ensure the very best for our children. Confidence, curiosity and kindness are the keystones of our Pre-Prep philosophy. Early Years Starting school is an exciting adventure and one we think should be enjoyable for both parents and children.

Our outstanding purpose-built Early Years centre welcomes boys and girls from the age of 3 and is the perfect place to learn and play. Bright and open areas, all with outside access to our fabulous outdoor classroom help us provide a happy, safe, warm and stimulating environment for all children to play, learn and develop freely.
Space and freedom are essential to learning, and the woods, green fields and secret garden are just some of the spaces our children explore on a daily basis. Every week, pupils have a swimming lesson in our heated on-site indoor pool and take part in PE and games sessions that include dance, gymnastics and ball skills, benefitting from expert coaching by Eagle House sports staff as well as having access to our excellent facilities.
The wonderful Early Years team helps children to develop responsibility for themselves, to become confident, independent and curious learners. We encourage children to explore, ask questions and have ownership of their own learning journey so they make progress across all areas of the

Prep School We understand each child is different and provide an atmosphere in which they can be confident and progress to the best of their ability. We focus on helping our pupils achieve their potential and develop skills and understanding in and out of the classroom.
Children are split into small groups headed by a tutor who is responsible for their pupils’ general welfare and development. Pastoral care and wellbeing are exceptionally important to Eagle House life and each child’s personal development and needs lie at the heart of our school.
With all children achieving places at a range of top senior schools, academic success is important and a robust curriculum is delivered by our inspiring staff. From Year 3 to Year 8 children study in small classes and focus is on enquiry and curiosity. English and Maths are central and are supported by the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) covering science and humanities. Additionally, children study subjects such as computing and coding, art, music and design technology. From Years 5 to 8 we follow Curriculum 200, a rich, skills and knowledge-based curriculum taught by subject specialists preparing the children for senior schools and beyond.
Eagle House is about opportunity, and we want everyone to gain skills for life. Academic, sporting, cultural and social skills are paramount so that every pupil leaves Eagle House having been encouraged to always do their best.
Technology is an integral part of the learning process; pupil-led assignments and teacher/pupil interactivity ensure IT is at the heart of classwork.

Co-curricular Our co-curricular programme provides outstanding opportunities for all. Everyone can find an area to excel in and with over 60 activities on offer, the choices are many and varied.
We firmly believe that a progressive education must include as much co-curricular activity as possible. A comprehensive programme of physical and creative activities encourages all children to try something new and develop passions, confidence for life and friendships.
The highlight for many children is the annual Golden Eagle week that sees each year group spend a week in the Summer term away from the normal timetable, learning new skills, challenging themselves and being with their friends. Older year groups spend this week in Wales, the South West of England and France.
The Golden Eagle programme focuses on teamwork, service and leadership skills and makes use both of our campus as well as the local community. Part of the programme is to inspire young people through a programme of visiting speakers, chosen because of their outstanding achievements in many walks of life.

Creative Arts Creativity is encouraged in all its forms at Eagle House. Art, music, drama and dance are celebrated and there are many opportunities to learn, practise and perform, enabling pupils to express themselves and be creative. Confidence, fun and energy are at the heart of our arts provision.
Drama enables everyone to experience the joy of performing and being together. Year group productions take place both in school and at our local professional theatre. An annual production at the Edinburgh Fringe allows those with a passion for drama to take their craft to the next level.
Music is part of every child’s Eagle House experience and whether it be in class music, individual tuition or being part of the many choirs and ensembles, everyone benefits from the musical opportunities. Many children take their music to a high level and pupils regularly win music awards at their senior schools. There is a broad extension programme for our senior musicians and everyone gets the opportunity to take part in concerts and recitals.
There many opportunities to experience dance at Eagle House. These include Creative Dance, Modern, Street Dance and Ballet. Lessons are taught within the PE curriculum, during the activity and enrichment programmes and as part of our numerous musical theatre productions.
The engaging art studio allows children to develop their imaginative and artistic skills. Our dedicated and enthusiastic art and craft specialists support and encourage pupils of all abilities to realize their full potential.

Sport ‘Sport for all’ is our guiding principle and sport and physical activity are part of everyone’s day at Eagle House. PE and Games, alongside regular weekly fixtures, ensure everyone gets the chance to develop a lifelong passion for life through active and healthy living.
Children make use of our dedicated playing fields and pitches, sports hall and swimming pool; we also benefit from Wellington College’s outstanding sports facilities. Teamwork is an important part of the learning experience, so pupils take part in team games like football, cricket, hockey, rugby, netball, athletics, swimming and cross country and get the chance to test their skills against other schools and clubs across our region. We believe that providing quality and varied sporting opportunities is an essential part of school life, both for health and fitness reasons as well as the sense of achievement and value that active participation and successful competition can bring.

Creative Technology Design, food technology and coding are curriculum-based topics that come under the umbrella of Creative Technology.
In design technology each child is encouraged to develop their creativity by experiencing a wide range of materials and techniques – from traditional skills to modern technological processes. Our dedicated design studio with 3D printers, woodworking tools and graphic design facilities is the perfect place to develop greater understanding of the effect of technology and design on the world in which we live. A dedicated food technology centre allows children of all ages to learn about and create menus, giving them nutritional knowledge, recipe ideas and the importance of flavours giving them valuable skills for life. Digital technology brings the world of computing to life and allows children to design and understand how software works, whilst constructing programmes that can change how we interact with the digital world.

Boarding Boarding forms a vital part of life at Eagle House. We offer weekly and flexi boarding from ages 7 to 13 in our superbly equipped boarding house. Bedrooms are cosy and welcoming and a beautiful central common room with large sofas, a kitchen area and lots of games is an inviting space for boarders every evening.
Boarding allows children to be children in a home from home and safe environment. Being with friends, enjoying running around in the fresh air, playing games, reading, supervised study sessions, swimming, indoor sport, and makes boarding a positive and enjoyable experience.
It’s no surprise that many of our day pupils go on to become boarders, keen to spend more time with their friends and more time enjoying the evening activities and becoming part of this special community where friends for life are made.
The house is run by resident houseparents along with a team of boarding staff who care for the children each evening. This dedicated team provides the next best thing to real parents for boarders creating an open, warm and homely experience for all.

Wellbeing Mental and physical wellbeing is our priority and recognising the demands on children and their needs is part of the Eagle House philosophy.
Our excellent pastoral care provision supports every child whatever their needs. A dedicated team of pastoral year heads and tutors understand the children in their care and offer daily support as well as being a point of contact for parents.
The health and welfare of the children is overseen by our medical staff who are fully trained nurses and are located centrally in the well-equipped medical centre. A school counsellor is available for any child who needs additional support, alongside play therapy and ELSA trained staff.
Weekly Learning for Life sessions for each year group allow children to learn about and discuss important issues to do with relationships, health and well-being and living in the wider world. These sessions promote inclusivity and shared experiences, so important as children move through the school. Diversity and equality and respect for others are celebrated at all levels.
The superb catering team produce the very best food for the whole community, ensuring healthy meals and snacks are served throughout the day.

Eagle House Community Eagle House is a vibrant and inspiring place to be and we recognise our role within the wider community.
We encourage the children to have a positive impact whether this be donating food for the local food bank, raising money for local or national charities or working closely with other local schools. Each year we run a Make A Difference Week that focuses on widening perspectives on areas such as mental health, global issues, personal goals, the natural world and our local area. These weeks involve a charity event, visiting speakers and workshops. The biennial Eagle House Children’s Literature Festival hosts an array of top authors over two days and children from local schools join us for a celebration of children’s writing. The Eagle House Association is our parent association and runs many events throughout the year for parents and children. Its aim is to create fun and engaging social events whilst at the same time contributing to the school and charity. 48
