SUMMER EAGLE HILL SCHOOL

A snapshot of fun and discovery.

Capture the joy of learning this July.

During the month of July, Eagle Hill School offers a four-week summer session for students aged 12–16. The EHS summer session combines the excitement of a classic summer camp with our unique approach to educating diverse learners. The course offerings and activities are designed to help students have a fun-filled summer while building confidence and paving the road for academic success in the fall. There are so many reasons for families to fall in love with Eagle Hill while experiencing our summer session!

Our Campus: Your Opportunity Our Campus: Your Opportunity

THE EAGLE HILL SUMMER SESSION

The Eagle Hill summer session provides academic enrichment and skill development for students interested in addressing specific learning needs or maintaining progress achieved in their previous school year. Electives and sports activities are combined with academic courses to address the needs of the whole child in a camp atmosphere. This success-oriented environment gives bright, motivated students the opportunity to flourish.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

Welcome to the Pioneer Club! Our New Student Orientation is designed intentionally and specifically for students starting their first year at EHS in September. Pioneer Club students will take a full complement of summer academic classes and enrichment courses with their future teachers, while receiving essential insights into dorm life at EHS to ensure a smooth transition in the fall. Additionally, our Student Life administrators plan orientation-only social activities that provide plenty of opportunities to make new friends with fellow Pioneer Club students and begin forming lifelong connections.

LEADERS IN TRAINING

The Leaders in Training program is the perfect opportunity for energetic, inquisitive students ages 16-18 to take on responsibility, gain valuable leadership experience, and transform summertime into a period of personal growth. The LIT program blends workshops, opportunities to lead younger summer students, off-campus trips, and community service programs with one goal in mind: helping students grow into the leaders they can be!

A MINDFUL SUMMER

During the summer session, we target the development of what are often called “executive functions” from the perspective of mindfulness by emphasizing what Israel Scheffler called “the cognitive emotions”—joy in discovery, discomfort in encountering an idea that challenges your former understanding, the surprise and satisfaction of successfully producing a new idea. This approach to executive function, integrated across the curriculum in classrooms and residence halls, avoids the pitfalls of traditional programs in which students rehearse planning, organization, and time management exercises in isolation but too frequently fail to incorporate those approaches in their school and personal lives.

Building on the mindfulness research of Harvard University professor Dr. Ellen Langer, our approach guides students to cultivate attentive awareness—the capacity for noticing novelty in the familiar. Through mindful engagement, students learn to approach academic and personal challenges as evolving problems to be explored rather than as fixed tasks to be completed. In this way, diverse learners strengthen their executive function skills by mindfully attending to their curiosity and sense of purpose.
