Hot Shots Congratulations to Lou Miranda for making his 2nd Career Hole-In-One on September 3rd. Lou used a 6-Iron on the 6th Hole at Eagle Harbor from 174 yards that day. The best part of Lou’s day was not exactly the shot of the day but that he bought a new shirt at the turn which he promptly termed his unlucky shirt as he doubled Holes #10 and #11. All was forgotten when Lou ACED the 6th Hole He now has a great story and a new lucky shirt.

By Dean GrunewaldOn the Tee and On the Course Chipping versus Pitching
The difference between pitching and chipping is often misunderstood. Chipping is when you want to get the ball on the ground as soon as possible and running towards the hole – so it spends more time on the ground than it does in the air. Pitching is the opposite – where the ball spends more time in the air than it does on the ground. Importantly, however, they are both part of the short game family of shots. With a pitch, because of the additional speed created by your wrist hinge, you'll naturally spin the golf ball slightly more.
CHIPPING
For a shot where the pin is only about 15-20 yards away, you want to be chipping the ball, landing it on the front of the green and letting it run out.
Use your standard chip and run action – there should be very little wrist action with the ball staying low and running towards the flag - as you'll be able to see if you watch the video with this article.

Such a technique limits you to around 20-25 yards, so anything longer and you will need to adopt more of a pitching technique.
PITCHING
A pitch shot will feature much more wrist action than a chip shot to create the speed you need for the ball to travel a greater distance in the air.
Don’t add too much wrist hinge, but to get the club head back further it is vital that you employ a certain amount; more wrist hinge adds more club head speed, which will allow you to pitch the ball further.
Fall Upcoming Events
Callaway DEMO and Fitting Day: October & November
TaylorMade DEMO and Fitting Day: October & November
Both of these will be announced soon and available in the golf shop. These will be appointment events staffed by both fitting professionals from each of these companies as well as the Eagle Harbor Golf Staff.
Weather Blues
We continue to be under the thumb of mother nature and a rainy season that won’t let up! It seems like the majority of August was played under some form of Cart Path Only. Joe, I and the team appreciate everyone’s cooperation in abiding by these guidelines as we all want the golf course to be in top condition as we head into the fall season. The rainy blues of August and September are behind us as we all look forward to cooler and calmer skies ahead.
