Lifeguards Training Class Lifeguards at Eagle Harbor work as individuals and as a team to oversee residents at our 3 beautiful aquatic facilities. Lifeguards are responsible for providing water rescues should the need arise and administer any first aid or emergency care and treatment. Lifeguards are required to be Red Cross certified and possess a CPR and First Aid certification.

Golf Carts/Low Speed Vehicles in Eagle Harbor Eagle Harbor is one of the few communities in Clay County to be approved for Golf Cart use on the roads of our community. While this is one of several wonderful amenities that we enjoy, it is extremely important Golf Cart laws are followed to maintain resident safety. Many of the laws can be found in Florida Statute 316.212. A common Golf Cart misperception is that due to its low speed, it is a relatively safe vehicle. However, when operated outside of the laws, it can present hazardous conditions that may result in serious injury. There are approximately 13,000 Golf Cart related accidents per year that require emergency room visits. Approximately 40% of those accidents involve children under the age of 16 and half of those are due to a fall from a moving cart. It is also very important to be cautious when turning left in a Golf Cart as this is when most Golf Cart accidents take place. In Eagle Harbor, Clay County authorizes golf carts to be operated on roads located north of Hwy 220 and west of Hwy 17. Golf carts are NOT authorized to be used in Eagle Cove, Eagle Crest, Eagle Perch, The Reserve, Stone Creek, Eagle Nest, Black Creek or anywhere on the commercial properties. You are required to abide by all laws governing golf cart usage. Some of the laws relating to golf cart use found in FS 316.212 are as follows: 1.

A Golf Cart cannot exceed 20 miles per hour.

license (or future driver’s license) for violation of Florida Statute 316.212. If your golf cart goes more than 20 miles per hour, it is no longer classified as a “Golf Cart,” but is classified as a “Low Speed Vehicle(LSV)” and must be registered with the State. According to Florida State Statutes, Low Speed Vehicles operate under a different set of rules than do Golf Carts. Consult Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles www.FLHSMV.com: 1.

Any person operating a Low Speed Vehicle must have in his or her possession a valid driver’s license.

2. Low Speed Vehicles must be equipped with head lamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, seat belts, and vehicle identification numbers. 3. Low Speed Vehicles must be registered, insured and display a license plate! 4. Low Speed Vehicles may not exceed 25 miles per hour. 5. Low Speed Vehicles can only be operated on designated roads with posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less. 6. Low Speed Vehicles cannot be driven on any sidewalks. 7.

Operators can be arrested for DUI on a Low Speed Vehicle.

2. Golf Carts can only be operated on designated roads where the speed limit is 30 miles per hour or less.

8. Operators can receive a citation against their driver’s license for violation of Florida Statute 316.2122.

3. Drivers must be 14 years or older.

In addition to the Golf Cart and LSV Florida laws, the CDD requires that all Golf Carts and Low Speed Vehicles register with Eagle Harbor prior to operating within the District. Registration is free and can be done at www.Eagleharboronline.com or visiting Waterfront Park. Failure to register and properly display the registration decals may result in suspension of user privileges of the facilities and amenities. Dear Eagle Harbor Golf Club Members, I hope this message finds you well. We are excited to introduce you to our new Head Golf Professional, Dean Grunewald! Dean will be joining us the week of April 11, so please welcome him to the Eagle Harbor Family if you get the chance. Dean Grunewald has been a PGA Professional for 28 years at a handful of Clubs in Northeast Florida. He served as 1st Assistant at Timuquana Country Club for five years, then three years as Head Golf Professional at The Ravines Golf Club. For the last 20 years, Dean has worked as Director of Golf at The Amelia Island Club at Long Point, overseeing one of the largest private Memberships in Florida. He played a vital role in integrating and servicing both Member and resort play at Long Point. Jacksonville has been home for Dean and his family for 30 years. His wife, Amy, is a lifelong Educator/Counselor in Nassau County at the high school level. Dean and Amy have three children. Twins Dylan and Claire are 20 years old and attending the University of North Florida and the University of Florida, respectively. Harrison will be a Freshman at Yulee High School in the fall. Dean himself graduated from Mississippi State University. When he’s not talking all sports SEC or pulling for the Bulldogs, you can find Dean chasing around his college kids and watching his son hone his basketball skills at Yulee High School. Dean and his family are excited to be a part of the Eagle Harbor Team and look forward to maintaining a first-class golf experience in this great, family-friendly Community. Golf Course Aerification June 6th – 9th (Monday-Thursday) This year’s annual golf course aerification project will take place June 6th – 9th (Monday-Thursday). During this time period both the golf course and the practice range will be closed for these critical annual maintenance practices that provide long-term benefits toward turf development and an overall first class golf course experience. Joe Williams and his team will be working throughout the golf course and on special projects during this closure. •

Eagle Harbor PRESSURE WASHING YOUR HOME There may not be a magic wand to instantly banish years of mildew, soot, dirt, and grime from your home’s exterior, but pressure washing is the next best thing. The process is a terrific way to remove grime on your home’s traditional stucco, brick, aluminum, steel, wood, and siding. Pressure washing can be performed every few years for general maintenance. This task, however, is more involved than simply connecting your garden hose to a pressure washer and turning the water on. Pressure washing also takes some skill. Spraying too aggressively could harm siding or paint. Pressure washing a home is risky if you do not follow the proper safety measures, and can be quite demanding physically. If it has been a long time since you last pressure washed your home you’re probably in for a lot of scrubbing by hand, and hours of reaching high and low on a vertical surface. If your home is taller than one story and you’re not up for standing on a scaffolding, you might consider hiring a pro for the job. For single-story homes, however, the steps below will guide you through how to pressure wash a house—and boost

Crime Watch If you don’t have an alarm system or would like to augment your system, what are some of the actions you can take to shore up your homes weak spots and what habits should you adopt to make a crook’s job more difficult? Let’s see what you can do to augment an alarm system and fortify your fortress: • “Case” your house just as a burglar would. Where is the easiest entry? How can you make it more burglar-resistant? • Trim trees and shrubs near doors and windows so that they don’t provide cover for a thief. Think before you install a tall privacy fence around the back yard; it could give thieves more privacy to work. • Install exterior lights with motion detectors, mounted out of easy reach, to reduce the darkness that burglars find comforting to work in. • Add upgraded locks, deadbolts or other simple security devices to doors and windows and keep them locked. • Don’t put your home address on your key ring, and don’t hide spare keys in a “secret” place outside the house.

• Notify the sheriff’s office (904) 264-6512 if you see suspicious strangers in your neighborhood. • Locking doors and windows whenever you are away from home is a must. The same holds true for your auto. Never leave your auto unlocked. There have been thefts from unlocked autos in home driveways and mall parking lots. Never leave your auto unlocked if it is unattended.

Are you familiar with the Florida “Move Over Law”? Imagine you are driving down the Florida Turnpike at 70 MPH and you see an FHP officer on the right shoulder with their lights on and a car pulled over. Do you stay in the right lane and fly by the officer’s car? The “Move Over Law” requires you to move over a lane or slow down to 20 MPH below the speed limit. If you are on a road where the speed limit is 20 MPH or less, you are required to slow down to 5 MPH. The purpose of the “Move Over Law” is to protect law enforcement and emergency vehicle workers from being hit by vehicles passing them at high speed. If you are not in the lane closest to the stopped emergency vehicle you should be prepared to allow other drivers to move over. If you fail to move over you can be issued a ticket, can receive 3 points on your license, and must pay a fine. More importantly you will be putting emergency workers in danger.
