ABOUT ME I am a third-year student in the Architecture Department of National Cheng Kung University. In each project, struggling or escaping makes me understand more and more who I am. I like to create a rich spatial experience in a simple design concept, and observe the impact of architecture on the interaction between people. I am also interested in graphic design and am studying hard. I hope that through this opportunity to explore abroad, I can improve my abilities and expand my horizons.

Show me the BRIDGE USE: Footbridge for resting LOCATION: Cheng Kung Lake, NCKU, Tainan, Taiwan

The school bell rings, and many students will linger on the lawn in front of the Xiuqi Building and the Chinese Department Building. This bridge was built to provide these students with a resting place and is connected to a small island in the center of the lake, while also enhancing the joy of lake recreation for the public. It features a simple design yet offers diverse experiences of height, width, and light and shadow.

D e r i v e d f ro m t h e ro l l i n g mechanism of a lint roller, the concepts of "circle" and "axis" a re e x t r a c te d . T h e e n t i re structure is composed of two one-thirds of circles, which are then visually connected along an axis and linked to the surroundings of the site.

The bridge features three pathways, ranging from the largest main pathway to the smallest pathway that accommodates only one person at a time. Particularly, this smallest pathway extends into the water and is surrounded by concrete, creating a stark contrast in brightness compared to the main and secondary pathways, thus establishing an atmosphere of concealment. The surface of the secondary pathway is inclined, and as one walks to the highest point, they unconsciously align with the visual axis.

Topic overview : Design a residential building in accordance with the client's requirements and the site's surroundings.

CASA de Viento USE: Single-family Home and Personal Studio LOCATION: Next to Fengshen Temple and Xiluo Shrine, Tainan, Taiwan

In the scorching heat of Tainan, sitting in the shade and enjoying a cool breeze is a true delight. "CASA de Viento" is designed a ro u n d t h e c o n c e p t of w i n d , capturing it through gaps and wall panels in the middle of the structure. This air flow is then distributed to various rooms, fulfilling the client's request for minimal air conditioning use.

Moreover, the design utilizes extensive corridors and wooden platforms to create transitional spaces, maintaining a balance between public and private areas within the living and studio spaces, allowing the residents to enjoy both solitude and interaction.

Site Restrictions: 1. BCR : 70% 2. FAR : 210%

Site Analysis: 1. Frequent temple activities during holidays with bustling crowd, drumming, and smoky atmosphere. 2. Wind often flows from the alley on the site's west side and from the north street.

Key Client Requirements: 1. Users: Couple (male and female homeowners), two employees. 2. Transitional space between the couple's and employees' studios. 3. Emphasis on personal space for the couple (separate studios/separate bedrooms). 4. Good ventilation without heavy reliance on air conditioning. 5. Clear distinction between public and private areas for toilets and kitchen. 6. Approximately two car-sized practical workspaces required.

Topic overview : How to Define Spatial Domains through Rituals and Actions.

SOUL YOGA USE: A medium for individuals to engage in dialogue with the universe, gods, and their inner selves. LOCATION: Guangfu Campus of NCKU , Tainan, Taiwan

The site itself is enclosed by walls, creating a sense of isolation. It's situated within a narrow alley, flanked by tall buildings on both sides. In contrast to the open and expansive environment of Chang Rong Road or the entire NCKU campus, the site and its western neighborhood appear relatively closed-off. In the past, NCKU had a plan to create an liberal campus by removing or lowering the campus walls and expanding sidewalk , enhancing the visual penetration of the campus. Given that the site is within the NCKU campus but surrounded by residential houses and businesses, I wish to embrace this liberal attitude of the campus. I envision this space as a sanctuary that can be shared both internally and externally within the building. Simultaneously, it should break through the sense of isolation between Chang Rong Road and the alley.

Yoga, originally, is a spiritual practice that involves the cultivation of discipline through ascetic practices, meditation, and contemplative sitting. The Sun Salutation, a classic component of yoga postures, consists of a series of movements expressing reverence and gratitude towards the sun.

The original structure on the site was one of the old dormitory buildings located within the Sheng-Li Campus, situated as a transitional zone between the main road and narrow alleyways.

Topic overview : Repurposing the old dormitory cluster to connect the campus with the community.

USE: Dormitory Cluster Numbers 30-1 to 30-4 will be for NCKU Dormitory Services, while Numbers 27, 29, 31 will be for NCKU Student and Community Café. LOCATION: Guangfu Campus of NCKU , Tainan, Taiwan

The original buildings within the site are old staff dormitories, distinguished from the reinforced concrete structures in the surrounding area by their loadbearing brick walls, pitched roofs, a n d t h e p r e s e n c e of s e v e r a l o l d t r e e s . N e a r b y, t h e r e a r e dormitories for NCKU students, where bicycles ser ve as the primary mode of transportation for most students, leading to frequent instances of bikes parked all over the place. The vicinity also offers a variety of restaurants, and especially during the night, many students come out to purchase midnight snacks.

SITE A

Compared to site B, site A is more open and lively, intended to ser ve as a community park for nearby students and residents. Shade is essential under the scorching sun, so existing trees are preserved to provide natural shade. Wooden panels are used for shading in areas where people gather, and the abundant wooden framework creates interesting patterns in the shadows throughout the site.

The nor thern section of the café is an open area available for free use. Repurposing the existing roof truss system in large quantities, it can serve as parking spaces for bicycles or as a space for bazaar.

The café's outdoor seating area is constructed with a wooden framework . The s e a t i n g a re a i s s h a d e d , whi l e other par ts all o w sunlight to filter through.

I t 's a " B i ke - I n C i n e m a " where students can come with their midnight snacks at night. Some seats have spaces beside them for parking bicycles, or you can sit on your bike and place your food on the attached small table.

SITE B has two semi-detached dormitory buildings. The left

building is mostly retained and serves as the counselor's office. The right building undergoes significant renovations, with most floors and walls removed. A wooden platform is installed to create a public activity area, divided into upper and lower levels, activating the entire space for various uses.

Folded Plate Structure Research Structural systems assignment | 2023

The model is made using two pieces of 0.05mm thick cardboard, with a thin tracing paper sandwiched in between. The reason for not directly folding a single piece of cardboard is that the shape we designed is relatively complex, and the folding process could easily damage the board. Using this method not only simplifies the construction process but also creates the possibility of translucency.

APPENDIX REBIRTH

1st Year Design Project | summer 2021 The aim of this project is for us to explore various materials, and I found a particular fascination with wood, which I stumbled upon unintentionally. The process of gradually hollowing out the wood is quite therapeutic, and as I do so, I am surrounded by the abundant scent of wood and can feel the soft interior contrasting with the rough bark. It's as if I'm allowing the wood to be emptied, as if its life were fading away. Yet, in the end, I use wire to string the separated pieces of wood back together, almost as if creating new life.

Pottery workshop | summer 2023 Instructor | Tu Xing Studio Express the abstract concept of "birth, aging, sickness, death" through pottery ar t. Bir th is represented by scales emerging from the pot, aging by the weathered appearance of the pot itself, sickness by the emergence of diseased insects from the pot, and death by serene purity akin to thin cloth.
