Tuesday Morning Group

Keeping communities alive!!!

It is a sad fact that currently we read of some Welsh Brass bands and some Welsh Male Voice Choirs permanently closing down due to lack of interest and a void of ‘young’ new voices and musicians coming forward. Both bands and choirs are nonessential but vital links to strong communities as I feel our own Dyserth Tuesday Morning Community Group also is. We have enjoyed some wonderful talks and been inspired to pursue many subjects as well as enjoying the friendship of erudite company. Long may we survive! I am repeating myself through this news-page in asking for ideas as to how we grow that important community spirit. Mobile phones can keep folks in touch but physically gathering together is not going to be part of our children’s and grandchildren’s future if we fail – be it choirs, bands or community groups.

OK. I have said my piece so let me tell you about our final couple of meetings. We were let down over a talk (dear to all our hearts) entitled ‘Sheep Farming in Wales’. But we found a wonderful speaker in Brian Lewis telling us all about another aspect of Welsh life – Music. The Welsh and the Italians have music in their souls. May it long be ever so. We gathered for our ‘End of Term Luncheon at The Crown in Trelawnydd and as they say- A good time was had by all.

I will end my report in this edition by tell readers about the amusing experience I had after suffering a heart attack: Pains in the chest, a visit to the GP, and forwarded urgently to Bodelwyddan Hospital. I was wired up in A&E to have my pulse, heart and blood pressure monitored over 24hours. So here is the amusing bit – my wife and I never open each other’s post so my dear wife Fay brought in the following mornings post. I still wired up and the very first envelope I opened couldn’t have had better timing. It was a mail-shot that read “PURE CREMATION”. Superb timing!!!

See you next October on the 3rd at Dyserth Community Centre, Cwm Road, Dyserth.LL18 8BD
