SINCE 1982, Närpes has celebrated the Tomato Carnival every year in July, which has become the highlight of the year. This event offers a week full of exciting activities, including an art carnival, the Tomato Olympics, and cultural experiences. The whole week culminates in a fantastic folk festival with concerts and a market on Friday and Saturday. A summer without visiting one of Fagerö Folk Park's summer dances can't be considered complete. You can also grill, enjoy a sauna, and take a dip in the small lake. In addition to Vargberget, several beautiful nearby hiking trails in Närpes are worth trying for those hiking enthusiasts. If you prefer smoother surfaces, there's a wide

4,1 KM or 1,7 KM. Start from Tjärlax stugby, Grönnesvägen 205.

Mossberget 's nature trails Vargberget's hiking trails 2,4 KM + 3 KM. The northern trail starts from Böle sandväg and the southern trail starts from Mossvägen. Maps are available outside Böle UF, Kristinestadsvägen 172.

5 KM or 17,8 KM. Start from Vargberget. The trails are marked with a yellow marking. Barbecue area is also available here.

THE MUSEUM area in Öjskogsparken takes you back to the old farming community. There are over 20 historical buildings here. Explore the well-preserved 18th-century house Bengtsgården and Hagas store from the late 19th century. Visit the unique pharmacy museum and learn about the production of medicines in the past. There is also a new museum that tells the fascinating story of the secret intelligence operation called Stella Polaris, which originated from the Nämpnäs village in the autumn of 1944. The operation's purpose was to move equipment and sensitive intelligence materials from Finland to Sweden to continue its activities and prevent the materials from falling into the hands of the Soviet Union. A short distance from the center of Närpes, you'll find the unique churchstables where horses rested while the household attended the nearby church. Adjacent to it is also the museum area of Ösjkogsparken.

Pack your swimsuit and take a bike ride to Vargholmen for a swim. Here, you'll find, among other things, the "Niagara Bridge" that quickly takes you to the neighboring village Tjärlax. From there, you can continue cycling through Tjärlax village back towards the center of Närpes.

MOSSBERGETS NATURE TRAILS At kristinestadsvägen 172 in Böle, you can find a map of the nature trails. The northern trail starts from Böle sand road, approximately 2 km into the road. The southern trail starts from Mossvägen, about 1 km south of where you find the map.

KASKÖ The neighboring town Kaskö, Finland's smallest city, is located 13 km from the center of Närpes. The idyllic wooden house environment by the sea is well worth a visit.
