Hello, there! My name is Dymphna (pronounced as dim-na). I am an artist curator

DYMPHNA LANJURAN

and a gallerist with Inner Joy Art, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. I hail from the state of Sabah, the land below the wind, at the east of Malaysia.

My interest is art started since I was a child, where I love to draw and colour for my own fun, as well as to be gifted to my family members. Participating in art competitions had also been one of the activities that I enjoyed as a child.

As I grew up, besides art, I am also highly interested in leadership and public speaking. I headed various groups and clubs in school, joined various competitions such as debate, poetry recital, etc. I am thankful to be able to horned all of these skills since young.

In 2006, I graduated with LLB (hons), Bachelor in Law from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and then, my career as an Employment Law lawyer and consultant began.

Art continues to play a big role in my life, often as the balancing act between the left and right side of my brain. I enjoyed career as a lawyer but found that the deepest truest pleasure in my life is centred around art experience.

In 2012, a group talent show with Legacy 2 enabled me to showcase my artworks in the form of an exhibition. Since then, I never stop! Haha. Art and me are insepar able. I practised hybrid career in law and art before I co-founded Inner Joy Art in 2019. I then decided to dwelve full-time as an artist curator and a gallerist here.

My journey as an artist curator and a gallerist is still ongoing. Through Inner Joy Art, I am committed to bring happiness through art experience such as impactful art exhibitions by various artists and Painting-Made-Easy classes for busy working adults to find their inner joy. Amidst all these, I continuously grow my art through international communities of artists that I befriended with via social media.

HERE COMES THE SUN, 2018 Acrylic on Canvas 3 x 3 feet (Triptych) RM 2,990 This is a painting to express the feeling of freedom and being at peace peace while imagining the sun shining around me, signifying light, hope and love – that’s what the sun does. That’s the nature of the sun – to give light. It gives light to the moon at night, it gives light when the rain stops and the dark clouds are swept away.

INFINITY - OCEAN OF LIFE, 2018 Acrylic and Glitter Dust on Canvas 3 x 1 feet RM 1,990

With the ocean flowing infinitely and abundantly, this piece was inspired by the waves of ocean surrounding the artist’s home land, Sabah the land below the wind.

The beating of the waves, The sound of the sea, This feeling of calmness, Linger within me.

I could stay here the whole day, Staring at the sea, Sitting at the bay, Listening to what’s there.

They said, home is where the heart is, I say, home is within me.

For the world is huge as it is, And so is the soul within me.

Transformation is a process that all of us undergo (whether consciously or otherwise) throughout our lives’ journey. When transformation took place, replacing the old (naturally and gracefully) with the new, one can never go back to the old self again. That’s just how it is - because something has shifted, inside the very core of our being.

UNICORN MAGIC, 2019

Unicorn Magic is an abstract painting that depicts one’s journey in life, in becoming who they are right now, wherever they are too.

Through all of the paths and routes taken, the journey essentially leads one to one destination – to be the highest, grandest version of themselves. When one embraces this journey and uniqueness of who they truly are, that’s when the magic happens.

The artworks in this series are created using limited palette by Zorn Anders, a sweedish artist in the 1800.

The Zorn palette was known as the portrait painter's palette. Thanks to the Zorn Floral Artist challenge hosted by a fellow artist in social media, Nicole Esposito, this series was born. Here, I want to show the versatility and beauty of this palette through abstract floral works.
