We would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you to the 27th installment of the Southwest Simmental Group Spring Production Sale. The simple fact that this sale has been continued to be held for this long of a stretch goes to show the group’s commitment to provide each of you a product that will add value to your programs for years to come.

This sale group is committed to producing and providing the very best genetic and phenotypically ideal cattle they can produce. The members bring these cattle in good working shape with all the guess work removed from your decision making. Please take some time to study the large group of Age Advantage bulls being offered in this year’s sale. These bulls are long aged and ready to go right to work in your pastures.

The SWSG has always been noted for providing an excellent set of replacement females and this year is no exception. I’d venture to go out on a limb and say that this year’s set of bred females outpaces any offering ever assembled in this crew’s 26 years of existance. The saturation of cow power in this group is second to none and will value each of you for many seasons to come!

We look forward to hearing from each of you in the coming weeks and look forward to providing a value added product for your evaluation. If you have any questions feel free to give any of us a call, we love to talk about the BEEF BUSINESS!

Thank you for your support,

Due Approx Feb 20th to Mr SR High Noon J1851

1367 is a massive built coming 3rd calver that traces back to a heifer we bought from the highly successful High Point Genetics outfit. She unfortunately is due a little out of our preferred calving window otherwise no way she leaves our herd. We retained her 1st daughter who calved this year and looks great. Her 2nd heifer is in replacement pen as well. Highly recommend this one.

4 UDE Diamond 128L

Due Approx March 27th to Mr SR Be Right G1538

128 was my pick on the 2023 Udell Cattle Co sale. I projected her to be the future cow of the sale and she hasn’t disappointed us in her development. An extremely dense individual in a moderate package. I truly admire her hoof structure and feel she is built for the long haul. Due to our calving ease herd sire that is a full brother to Right Now. His daughters are the right kind.

5 Schaa’s Ms Tricked Out

AI 6/20 to Heifer Sexed Uno Mas

Socks is Ryans show heifer from Dan Schaa Cattle Co. I’m first to admit I’m not an expert on clubby pedigrees but what I do know is this she is developing into a tremendous cow prospect. Super fronted, plenty of middle and very good structure wise. Some of the best leg hair I’ve ever been around. Due to sexed female Uno Mas, no bull exposure. THC/PHAF/DSC.

Due 3/8 to

Red Alert with some sweetness! We told you we love these Real Time calves. This one is a tough one to sell. She has been a sweetheart just like her mom since day one. We showed her at the 2023 Iowa State Fair and Clay County Fair where she got a lot of attention. We love this one’s combination of body mass and stoutness. Her ability to combine so much volume and capacity while maintaining such an eye-catching look from the side is hard to deny. Just put her in the donor pen and let her go to work.

Due 3/8 to CLRS Guardian - Called Safe with Heifer PE to

This baldy will catch your eye on sale day. She is long and elevated in her head and neck junction and ultra level in her outline. I love the bone and foot, and how she moves around the lot. Lil Glamor keeps on getting better with age. She has a bright future just like her mother. Her half-brother sells in the sale.

We are very impressed with these two heifers. I know they will make you money because their half-blood sister is doing it for us. The red-bred heifer that we are offering in this sale goes back to our KA Barbaramere cow. The Barbaramere cow family has done very well for Kenny Angus and Carter Angus. Buy with confidence!

to Ruby/SWC Gentleman’s Jack

There is a story behind this one. Fall of 2023 we went on the hunt for a stand out show heifer for Tommy’s last show season before he was off to college. We found her at Danker’s Labor Day Sale, a pretty hairy smokey out of Gunsmoke and a blue roan Double Stuff daughter. Well then fate stepped in when Tommy signed with Morningside in February to play football and we found out that his new schedule did not allow enough time to properly work and show this heifer. So, we kicked her out with our keeper heifers. She settled AI first service to Gentleman’s Jack. She will have a 1/2 Simmy calf around 1/25/25. Smokey, Blue Roan, Black??? Should be a pretty good one. Could be a real show stopper. We’ll find out. Come check out Tommy’s pair and you be “the judge.”

Fitzsimmons Simmental

PE 6/9 till 9/27 to KCRC Sampson 8K

What an opportunity here! We are tight on space in our operation and, in wanting to keep new genetics cycling through, we are offering up Miss Felicity. She has been as productive for us as we could ever ask for, and like her maternal sib in the bred heifers, her dam passed down tremendous mothering ability and disposition. She is bred to our herd sire KCRC Sampson 8K, which is out of the great JSUL Something About Mary. He has already sired two show calf prospects, one heifer and one Simmental steer, that will show this year. I can’t wait to see what this mating produces! KCR Cattle Co.

I absolutely love this ¾ blood daughter of County O. This heifer is as clean and long fronted as you will find in a ¾ Simmental. She’s smooth shouldered and big middled. She tracks perfectly and has the running gear to last a lifetime. She has tremendous udder structure, as well. Her dam is one of the best mothers we have ever had, picture perfect bag and teats, and a great disposition. I think this mating to Dew North has the potential to be a stellar purebred prospect. Bid with confidence here!

Open Heifers

You all know that we just do not offer our open heifers for sale. Well, this year we have more really good open heifers than we have room for. So a couple of weeks ago we decided to bring in 2 of our very best fall heifers and start getting them ready for this sale. Cora is a homo polled & black daughter of Cowboy Logic and was one of my favorite solid black open heifers. We are finding that the Logic heifers have a little more top, a little more rib, and so much more class that it really does set them apart from the other heifers. They catch your eye and demand your attention. You’re gonna want to check this black beauty out.

Black - Polled - Open Heifer

This open heifer has a great pedigree along with a killer look. Maternal Made females are well known to develop into outstanding cows along with the Simmental genetics on the dam side.

We are very proud of this heifer we brought to the sale this year. She is broke and is ready for a youth showman to take over the halter. She is very tame and has a great attitude. Not only will she make a great show heifer but she will make an incredible cow. Long spined, plenty of power, and elegant in her design.

His papa Cowboy Logic has passed on to the great beyond and there is no semen left on the open market. Tyrell was raised by one of our best Optimizer daughters who is also a granddaughter of our old foundation donor, Portia, and she really brought in a good one here. Tremendous internal dimension and moves out like a cat. You’re gonna want to check this fella out.

Homo Polled & Black fall yearling bull. This deep sided, smooth shouldered, black blaze faced Cowboy Logic son has been something special from the day he was born. Out of a black baldy Hook’s Bounty daughter that traces back to our FITZ POL Portia donor, Hondo is the black baldy son that we really think a lot of. Low birth weight, smooth shouldered, deep bodied, broad topped, and puts it all together in a calm, cool package that really catches your eye. Tremendous internal dimension, excellent structure, and moves out like a cat. You’re gonna want to check him out. Walk him for a bit, you’ll be glad you took the time.

Homo Polled & Black fall yearling bull. This brockel faced, deep sided, smooth shouldered Cowboy Logic son has been a standout from the day he was born. Cowboy Logic passed on to the great beyond and there is no semen left on the open market, so if you were thinking about adding his influence in your herd you need to latch onto one of his sons. Clancy’s moma is none other than our Sabrina donor out of a full sib to Fitz Pol Boxcar. She is also a granddaughter to our foundation donor Portia. Clancy is our top indexing fall bull. Put all this together and you get that extra maternal power to sire top notch replacements or top yielding feeder calves. Moderate birth weight, tremendous internal dimension, explosive growth, and moves like a cat. Come walk him in the yard or track him as he walks down the alley at the sale. We think you’re gonna like this guy.

Homo Polled & Black spring yearling bull. We sold FITZ Jacks Max to the Clark Family as one of the high sellers of the 2021 SWSG sale after we had used him on a few cows and heifers. Really not sure why we sold that bull, but dang, we got some amazing calves out of him. So, to make a long story short, we bought some semen back on him to continue using in our herd. Well, Maximo is a solid black son that we really think a lot of. Low birth weight, smooth shouldered, deep bodied, broad topped, and puts it all together in a calm, cool package that really catches your eye. Tremendous internal dimension, excellent structure, and moves out like a cat. Not to mention, he wa our top indexing spring 2024 bull. Oh ya, did I say that he combines three of our top donors in his pedigree: Fantasia, Portia, & Mystique. You’re gonna want to check him out. Walk him for a bit, you’ll be glad you took the time.

KCRC Lover Boy 8M

Boy oh boy, did Lover Boy work here! This ¾ blood son of Lover Boy is one beast of a bull. Starting from the ground this one has big feet and legs that track as sound as can be. He has the rib shape to create phenomenal females but is heavily muscled enough to make powerful males. He ties high at the point of his shoulder with a neck that goes on forever. All of this is in an easy calving package. We have a maternal sib to this bull and have been running him now for 3 years. When I tell you this one’s dam doesn’t miss, I could go on for days about what his dam has done to take our operation to the next level.

2 package of 4 Conventional Embryos, No

This spring the difficult decision was made to disperse my cow herd, and thus this will be the first year I don’t have any live lots to feature in this year’s sale. After going through my embryo inventory at Collinson’s I did however realize that I had some very good matings still sitting in the tank that need to be utilized to propel another program ahead like the Skittles mating in particular has done for my program over the years. The Fern mating is sired by two of the top bulls in the country and is backed by Fern herself who is a very impressive donor for the Sullivan firm. Skittles impacted my program more than any other cow that ever stepped foot on my farm. This unsexed mating to High Caliber has already produced high selling bulls as well as females who have ran through past SWSG offerings. The Skittles mating will be sold with the winning bidder paying for 3 embryos and receiving the 4th embryo free to offset not being able to guarantee these embryos. Embryos are stored at Collinson’s Embryo Center.
