Mc2 Cattle Company - 7th Annual Production Sale

Once again I’d like to welcome everyone to our 7th annual sale. It’s been an interesting year to say the least with drought like conditions once again and rain has been limited and spotty. Somehow we have managed to weather the conditions in a few timely rains to make sure our feed supply will last till spring. Mother nature has been kind enough to keep the snow away for now as most of the herd is still grazing stockpiled fescue. Not to sound like a broken record, but once again the local sale barns have seen record number of slaughter cows hit the market and most I predict will not build back anytime soon as feedstuff prices are at an all time record high. The US cowherd has reached a 60 year low and I can’t think of a better time to add consistency and uniformity to your herd. Once again, we will be offering a group of performance oriented, maternally based, phenotypically desired and most importantly, a profit driven set of herd sires. Regardless of the environment we feel these bulls will add sellable pounds, eye appeal, structural integrity and overall increased profitability. Top to bottom there isn’t a bull offered that we wouldn’t use in our own cow herd.

In addition, we are offering another set of bred heifers from the heart of our registered herd. This is not a decision made easily, but as an avenue to keep our numbers in check. These females will give you an opportunity to see first hand what our entire operation is founded on, our cowherd. Again, we welcome you Friday night the 26th to Russell IA or any time prior to sale day at the farm. Yearling bulls will be kept free of charge until April 1st. Coming 2 year old bulls will need to be delivered within a week or shortly after the sale. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST

It’s often said that a bull is only as good as the cow family he is out of. 9G47 has made a major impact in our program the last few seasons and this year she out paced her already prolific start. Here’s a powerful footed, square hipped female who transmits a calving ease build into scale popping growth into her progeny. As you study her sons and daughters you’ll quickly notice their high quality hoof design, ideal structure, and powerful hips. Bid with confidence on this cow family and put these sons to heavy usage in your programs for years to come.

These three amigos are without a doubt the most complete and intriguing bulls we have ever produced here at Mc2. As we strive to add more genetic advanced pedigrees in our herd I feel these three bulls are a great place to start. Great calving ease numbers with added growth any of these bulls can quickly impact a set of calves and the herd they are used in. The 9G47 donor is making a huge impact in our herd. Pick your favorite as it is hard to poke a hole in any of these three!

Interesting pedigree made for a great percentage bull out of the Vegas Sire. The 9g47 donor hit another one out of the park . Moderate in his frame you will have to appreciate his extra dimension and width. Phenotypically he does everything to the highest level when it comes to how we think they should look.

We really like our Chiefs around here and this one is no exception. Super long spined and his numbers indicate he will sire light birth weight calves. Another standout from the 9g47 donor, this bull does a lot of things right.

Two really complete and power packed set of True North son’s from the 616 donor. This flush is stamped with thickness, dimension and muscle from front to back. These two will rank high for producers looking to add some thickness and beef in their calf crop. Their heifer mates are easy favorites in the replacement pen!

In just his first year the Frosty 728J bull has made quite a name for himself around here. Small at birth with huge growth afterwards these two sons hit the ground and never looked back. We have kept several heifers back as they look to be standout replacements! Both would be excellent choices for heifer bulls.

We sampled some Man of War last year and couldn’t be happier with the results. For those unfamiliar Man O’War was the record selling $317,500 bull for the Wheatland Program of Canada. These three are true outcross sire’s with big time growth potential. All three are stout and thick and back by outstanding Angus females!

A ton of potential in this Head Start son who’s dam was purchased by Ryan from the Ruby’s. We have always tried to use the best bulls we could find to clean up our cows after the ET and AI work is done. These two happen to be the result of our cleanup bull and I think they fit the mold right along with our top producing ET calves. The Lockdown mating has worked extremely well for us over the years. They come small, aggressive after birth and have explosive growth. And the females will have udders like no other. These two bulls are recommended for heifers.

Super attractive, smooth shouldered, athletic in his structural build, yet still has mass and power. Don’t miss this bull that does a lot of things right. Jass Simmentals

Quick Guide to American Simmental Association EPDs & $ Indexes Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): The most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A & B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15 unit difference would be expected in their progeny. Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example if the above case referred to weaning weight, A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more at weaning than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. $ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry, and dairy genetics over the last several decades. All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade & yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.

Complete Carcass Scan Data will be available on the Bulls sale week! This information will be posted on www.dwyercattle.com as soon as it is available!

17

Using API & TI: First determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described before, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all purpose type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring 100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a 50 API bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For a percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Units of Expression of ASA EPDs (listed alphabetically): All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all purpose sire scenario. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pound of birth weight Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Marbling (MB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.

It’s females of this quality that have made Relentless a household name amongst cattlemen across the country. Backed by the 9g47 donor you can rest assured this one is in for the long haul. We think the generating potential of 274 is immense and look forward to hearing the success story of her new owners. Bred for a quick return by the female making Change is Coming.

Due 2/14/24 to THSF Lover Boy, carrying a bull.

The E6 donor was a past show heifer for Ryan that did her fair share of finding the backdrop. We lost her early in production, but managed to get a few Relentless embryos. They don’t get much denser and shapely than the 276 female with her undeniable mass and hind set to her leg. If you’re interested in finding a true donor with an excellent cow family backing her, look hard at this one.

Once again we dove into the heart of the herd to bring you yet another Broker x 516. We have sold several of these matings over the years and they are working hard for some outstanding breeders across the country. Again I challenge you to find a beast with as much substance as this one when it comes to dimension and width of pin set. There is serious quality all the way through this offering but the opportunity for success that comes with an investment of this female needs as serious consideration as any.

Sire ASA #: 3832373 - Donor ASA #: 3333301 - 1/2 Simmental

Every year we try to offer up a set of embryos that represent our most anticipated mating for the coming season. Here’s your chance to tie into our Bardot N616 female who has produced so many high sellers for our program over the years in both the bull and bred heifer pens. Her mating to Change is Coming could prove electric as CIC is hitting it out of the park in the SimAngus Division. CIC produced the 3rd Overall female at this year’s AJSA Nationals and Supreme Female at World Beef. Guarantee 1 pregancy on this SimAngus mating.
