This event will generate proceeds for our PGA REACH TRI-STATE Foundation and UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.

The Tri-State PGA Birdie Bash is a one-day fundraising event on September 20th where Tri-State Section PGA Professionals will play (72) holes of golf in one day at Wildwood GC with the goal of making as many birdies as possible.

Through each professional’s network, solicited donors make a financial pledge per birdie to help raise funds to benefit the Tri-State Section PGA Reach Foundation and UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation. *(Eagles will be counted as 2 birdies)

* REGISTRATION IS OPEN, but Closes on SEPTEMBER 6TH!

This is an insightful segment, and thank you to Shooters Golf for all that they do and to our Tri-State PGA Professionals like Dennis M. Munko, PGA, for his leadership and instruction to introduce and teach the game of golf to veterans and golf enthusiasts of any age.

MESSAGES of APPRECIATION

The PGA HOPE weekly golf outing has been a great event. On behalf of the Veteran’s Recovery Center, Heinz Campus, and other recovering veterans, I would like to express gratitude to everyone who volunteered their time. I can tell every person here is committed to helping keep this golf program strong, and it’s really inspiring to have participated.

I want to thank Haley, our recreation therapist, and facilitator for the Heinz Campus. I want to thank PGA Facilitator Ron Lucas, the PGA PROS, Volunteers, and other veterans from The Southwest Veterans Center.

Through preparation, coaching, and commitment, we’ve been provided an outlet to further institutional skills in a therapeutic setting. The opportunity to apply our daily lessons from the VA is truly a gift. Week by week PGA HOPE has provided additional integral teachings with more than enough patience. For me, the opportunity to witness the performance of my peers as well as myself leaves me feeling that I matter, and for that, I am grateful.

Tonight’s celebration of veterans through golf, instruction, and food stands as a successful testament to its intent. In time we hope this program will continue to grow and positively influence those increasingly involved.

As a Veteran and a Tri-State PGA Hope/Wexford program participant, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for your dedication, patience, and hard work in making the golf learning experience one I will remember for a long time. The coaching by you and the participating PGA Professionals was outstanding. Prior to attending your course, I hooked or sliced the ball almost every time I swung a golf club. It took me an average of two hours and 45 minutes to play 9 holes at a local golf course. Since attending your lessons, coupled with the outstanding coaching efforts from you and your PGA Certified Instructors, I now complete the Clover Hill Golf Course in less than two hours with a marked reduction of strokes per hole, with the ball going more on target. Thank you for including the four additional veterans from our Summer Seat community neighborhood. Everyone is pleased to have been included and spending quality time with you, your team of professionals, and all of the participating veterans. By week three, we all felt like comrades with the completion of one mission, swinging a golf club properly and accurately in having fun. We have made new lifetime friends and will cherish participating in your program.

I would also like to compliment you on your leadership skills and extraordinary patience in helping disabled veterans and those totally new to the game. I have never seen such a happy group of veterans having fun together and overcoming their limitations as a team player. Also, inviting family members for the 8th session finale is noteworthy as I noticed the attending spouses enjoyed being included. Your recognition event for all of the participants is one for the books. All I saw was a room full of proud, happy smiles on every face. You should be proud of your hard work and dedication in supporting military veterans and making a difference in their lives.

Thank you to our Certified PGA HOPE Tri-State Coordinator, Ronald Lucas, PGA, and certified Hope instructors Paul Hollstein, PGA, Jim Cichra, PGA for their continued dedication and commitment to our veterans and golf.

The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum led by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military and cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so the programming cost is accessible to all Veterans.
