I coach girls' JV basketball in the winter as a stress relief.
Tell us about your family.
- Are you married, and do you have any children?
I am married to Shelby with three children: Ryan (23), Paige (21), and Luke (15). The two boys golf, but the women do not play. Both boys play left-handed, even though Shelby and I are both right-handed.
Can you name two of your favorite golf courses that you've played, and what makes them unique to you?
Augusta National and Cypress Point. Augusta is my favorite course I have ever played.
If you could play one round of golf with any three people (alive or deceased), who would you choose to play with?
Mo Norman, Tiger Woods, and Arnold Palmer.
What initially drew you to the game of Golf, and how did you get started?
I got started at Whispering Pines golf course working for a membership as a kid. I enjoyed meeting new people and spending hours getting to know others while playing.
Please provide some insight into your previous roles.
I was the assistant working with Denny Dolci at Sharon Country Club. I then served as the Head Golf Professional at Oak Tree for 5 years, and later held the position of Director of Golf at Avalon Golf and Country Club.
How long have you been a PGA member, and what made you decide to pursue a career in the PGA of America?
Getting started, it was the next step to advance when I was working at the Country Club. I have always enjoyed helping people improve and get excited about the game. Will be a PGA Member for 26 years in October of this year.
What does being a PGA of America Member mean to you?
Having the PGA membership gains respect with your members and around the country. The golf industry is a challenge, but every day is a new adventure, and it's never boring or the same.
What wisdom can you offer about golf careers and the importance of becoming a PGA member?
It is important to find what you love, and then every day is enjoyable and does not feel like work. Whether it's teaching, golf operations, running events, or any other avenues in the business, just find what you like and pursue that avenue.
