Welcome to the April edition of Dwight Dispatch. This month highlights what defines Dwight School Hanoi, global campus connections in action, real-world learning experiences, access to University Guidance expertise, and a strong sense of community, all contributing to a connected school experience.
INTERNATIONAL ACAC REGIONAL INSTITUTE (ASSOCIATION FOR COLLEGE ADMISSION COUNSELING)
From 9–11 April, Dwight School Hanoi hosted the International ACAC Regional Institute, welcoming the global university admissions community to our campus. School counselors from across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania joined university representatives from around the world to share best practices, strengthen professional networks, and build their understanding of how to support students through the international admissions process. Over several days, the campus served as a center for professional exchange and collaboration.
As part of the event, we also hosted the International ACAC University and College Fair, bringing together more than 150 universities and colleges. The fair gave students and families in Hanoi the opportunity to speak directly with admissions representatives, explore global pathways, and learn more about university options without leaving the city.
Our University Guidance experts from across the Dwight global network were also on campus, offering advice to families and leading workshops on university pathways and admissions strategies, showcasing Dwight’ s position as a leader in university guidance within the global education community.
ANNUAL DWIGHT CARNIVAL AND MATILDA PRODUCTION - OPEN COMMUNITY EVENT
The Dwight Carnival brought together families from the Dwight School Hanoi community and the wider Hanoi community for a lively afternoon on campus. As an open community event, it reflects our aim to make the campus a space that can be enjoyed by the whole community.
There was a wide range of activities throughout the day, including giant inflatable games such as basketball and bowling, as well as reflex and steady-hand games. A Manchester City–inspired penalty shootout was a popular feature and added a fun, competitive element.
Guests also enjoyed a mix of carnival food and external vendors, alongside our popular Dwight craft stations. The combination of games, food, and activities created an engaging and accessible experience for all ages.
The day carried through into the evening with a student performance of Matilda, providing a fitting finale. Altogether, the day reflected our community spirit, open, inclusive, and full of energy, and we were pleased to welcome so many families to our campus.
UNDEFEATED. UNSTOPPABLE. CHAMPIONS.
We are delighted to share some fantastic news from our basketball teams. Our U16 Boys Basketball team have been crowned Undefeated Double Champions, winning both the Hanoi Schools League and the Western Hanoi Sports League Championship, an outstanding achievement for a team that has only been playing together for one year.
We expect to receive the championship trophies shortly, with engraving currently in progress, and look forward to celebrating this success with the team in the coming weeks.
Congratulations also to our U16 Girls Basketball team for their impressive second-place finish, and to our U13 Boys team for securing third place.
This success highlights the strong momentum of sport at Dwight, driven by commitment, teamwork, and a growing competitive edge.
INNOVATION ACROSS DWIGHT CAMPUSES
DWIGHT SCHOOLS SPARKATHON
On 17–18 April, Dwight School Hanoi students joined peers from across the Dwight global network for Sparkathon 2026, our annual global innovation challenge Over two days, students collaborated across campuses and time zones to tackle real-world problems through creativity, research, and entrepreneurial thinking.
This year ’ s challenge, delivered in partnership with the Villars Institute, focused on SDG 15: Life on Land. Students explored solutions to protect biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and strengthen the natural systems that sustain life on Earth. Working alongside local and global experts, as well as fellow Dwight students worldwide, participants developed thoughtful, innovative responses to this complex issue.
Sparkathon once again highlighted the strength of the Dwight global network, bringing together students from different countries and perspectives to learn from one another and collaborate with purpose. The experience challenged students to think critically, communicate effectively, and contribute to solutions beyond the classroom.
We now look ahead to the final stage, as we await the announcement of which team, and from which campus, will be crowned Sparkathon 2026 winners.
Building on this momentum, our partnership with the Villars Institute will continue into the summer, with Dwight School Hanoi represented at the Villars Symposium 2026 as part of this ongoing global engagement.
Earlier this month, our students took part in the Vietnam Global Politics & History Trip, welcoming peers from Dwight School New York, Franklin School Jersey City, and Dwight School Global Online for a collaborative Dwight Destinations experience. Dwight School Hanoi students joined them as they travelled with faculty from across our campuses from Hanoi to Hue, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, exploring the historical, cultural, and political forces that have shaped Vietnam. Through site visits, discussions, and immersive experiences, learning extended far beyond the classroom, bringing real depth and context to their studies.
A defining feature of any Dwight Destinations trip is the connection between campuses. Students quickly built friendships and exchanged perspectives, with Dwight School Hanoi students proudly acting as hosts and cultural ambassadors throughout the journey. This experience highlights the strength of the Dwight global network, bringing students together from across the world to learn with and from one another. The impact of the trip will continue well beyond Vietnam, as students take their experiences, insights, and new perspectives back to their home campuses, enriching future learning and discussion.
At Dwight, education is a global, connected experience, one that prepares students to engage thoughtfully and confidently with the world.
IB DP ENVIRONMENTAL FIELDWORK
We also place strong emphasis on realworld learning within Vietnam, and as part of this, our Grade 11 students travelled to Cuc Phuong National Park for their IB Diploma Programme Group 4 Collaborative Science Project. This interdisciplinary project is an IBDP requirement and brings together the Group 4 sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies, Design Technology, and Computer Science, enabling students to investigate real-world scientific questions through fieldwork, with a focus on biodiversity and environmental impact.
In the rainforest, students carried out systematic ecological sampling using transect lines and quadrats to measure biodiversity, including species richness and evenness. They also used kick sampling to study macroinvertebrates in soil and leaflitter ecosystems, helping them assess ecosystem health
IB DP ENVIRONMENTAL FIELDWORK
Fieldwork took place in both primary and secondary forest sites, allowing students to compare environments and examine the impact of human activity, particularly in areas close to residential development. The experience also included visits to conservation centres within the park, where students explored ex-situ conservation practices They examined how breeding programs, rehabilitation methods, and long-term conservation strategies support endangered species and ecosystem recovery.
Alongside academics, students also had time to unwind and connect with their surroundings. Evening activities included guided walks to observe fireflies, visits to additional conservation centers and a practical session on survival skills such as fire-building, bringing balance to an intensive and rewarding scientific experience.
DATA-DRIVEN LEARNING ACROSS GRADES
NWEA MAP Testing
Students in Grades 2–9 are currently completing Measures of Progress (MAP) assessments. These provide clear insights into student learning, helping teachers identify strengths and areas for development, track growth across the year, and tailor instruction to support each student’ s personalized learning journey.
PSAT
Grade 10 students are undertaking the PSAT as preparation for the SAT, which can support applications to institutions that consider SAT scores. It also gives both students and teachers a clearer understanding of current performance, helping to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
